Feeders You can satisfy yourself as to the truth of that starement by comparing the saies at Sioux City last year with those at any other competitive market You can also ask your neighbors who have sold ca ttle at Sioux City This year Siouxr City is in the field for fat cat tle as well as feeders The great beef slaughtering plant of the Cudttby Packing Co is ready for business The capacity of the Stock Yards has been greatly increased and you will find excellent facilities for handling your business Itfo charges except for feed ordered if your cattle are not sold on our market The Sioux Uity Stock Yards Co JOH HKEENE General Manager v With Morrissey in the county at torneys office the people can feel that the interests of the taxpayers will be taken care of People will always know that their attorney is at wrork if needed The Longpine Journal thinks Cher ry county 13 a good field to work in and so runs a Woodlake department We wish our brother success He knows a good thing when he sees it Some day he will take to printing Brown county news and then the Aips worth papers will have to look out for their prestige Meanwhile we believe that Bro Leach now has a righteous kick coming and to his tender mercies we commit the offender According to reports Brovr n is still being defeated by Greene on the stump Wherever the two men ap pear the audience gets red in the face applauding Greene and the air turns blue with republican curses This is no yellow story we would violet our principles by telling a falsehood about the matter so we orange to tell the truth at all times or say nothing Paste this in your hafc no mediocre man will wear the congressional pur ple from the Sixth after the election T F Kelly of Crookston was nom inated for representative on the repub lican ticket one week ago last Satur day but not a republican in town could be found who would tell ye edi tor of the fact until the following Fri day This is not very flattering to Mr Kelly and he can justly feel agrieved at the treatment accorded his candidacy He is a very good man we are told but running for represen tative on the republican ticket is a forlorn hope this year Political lines will be drawn close and this means the election of the whole fusion ticket A short time since John Li Tanner governor of Illinois said The re publican party has prosecuted and is about to conclude a highly successful war1 and The Commentator remarks I may be mistaken but I do believe it will re quire more than the empty vaporings ol a dis credited blatherskite to lead sensible folk to think that one party or the other carried on and concluded the war with Spain Claims such as that made by Tanner whether advanced by republicans or democrats are an insult to the American people who forgetting party affiliations loyally and patriotically supported the president and without one thought of politi cal creeds offered up their lives on the field of battle in the cause of humanity and for the greater glory aud honor of their country No soldier or sailor of the United State3 because he was a democrat or a republican but did what John E Tanner did not do because they were Americans and when he or any other man speaks as he did he libels them and proclaims himself to be a two legged full brother to those quadrupeds which run mainly to ears and a bray The action of the populist and dem ocrat representative conventions at Korden last Saturday in nominating John Shore for representative will meet with the approval of every voter in the two counties who believes in electing good men tp office Mr Shore represents all that is good in his party is thoroughly honest highly con scientious perfectly capable of making a good representative and so far as we are able to learn hasnt an enemy in the world of his own making Pol itically many may differ with him but none can say that he is not a good man Mr Shore will be elected un doubtedly and when the returns are all in we believe that his majority will be larger than that of any other man voted for in Cherry or Keya Paha counties His election means a triumph for reform and one more Yote for Senator Allen iLKkL4tmK 2LWi1tmiwij9JiVJ heartily wel comed to this city Chadron Journal The New Mexico sheep breeders may have killed the goose that laid the golden egg by holding the price of lambs too high for popular demand In speaking on this subject Hon J C Evans of Larimer county said It looks as though lambs were going to be too high for the feeders this year They are selling at 2 a head in Itfew Mexico and are firm at that figure The country there is full of buyers from Kansas and Nebraska and they are paying the price We would be willing to pay as high as 175 but that is as high as we care to go We will feed some lambs but the number will be far behind what was fed last year The margin is too close for this risk There has been a marked improve ment in the lastten or twelve years in the character of Texas range stock and some ranches now have grades that for all practical purposes are as good as pure breds this is however true only ou such ranches as have used nothing but pure bred sires Whac is true in Texas will be found true in all sections of the country The markets especially the eastern outlets are becoming more and more discriminating every year and nothing but the very best will command a price that will pay for production It is not a question of whether a pure bred sire of good individuality can be afforded ne is an absolute necessity and without him no man is justified in attempting to raise beef cattle Farm Stock aud Home The ordinary trotting bred driver is the horse that has been most largely chosen for cavalry purposes and in deed of all our horses seems to be best suited for the uses of our army says the Horseman This is the class of horses which barring farm workers and plugs of all descriptions is the last to feel the effects of advancing prices Natural ly the supply is the most generous aud hitherto the demand has been the most slack Consequently when we consider that even for this variety prices have so far advanced beyond the paying point as to induce breeders to begin to stock up with great num bers of brood mares we can only ad mit that the business is once more in a heatthy condition The Kansas Experimental Station has sent out a very interesting bulle tin on the subject of blackleg and among other conclusions reached by exhaustive research are the following Blackleg is infectious but not con tagious being caused by a germ which enters the system through the medium of a wound or sore the body of an animal which has died of the disease swarms with germ3 and it should be burned where it lies many kinds of soil3 retain the blackleg germs for an indefinite period hence a range which has produced blackleg should be abandoned no cure for blackleg has yet been found but it may be prevent ed either by vaccination or isolation from infected ranges The bulletin describes the disease as as follows The characteristic symptoms of this disease and by which alone it can usually be recognized is tlie appearance of large swellings on various parts of the body usually ou or near the upper portions of the legs and never below the hock or knee joints The swellings vary in size but are always formed by the presence of gas that has collected in tiia tissue meshes beneath the skin Tins gas is a product of the blackleg bacilli When the hand is passed over these swellings a characteristic crackling sound is produced When incised with a knife a bloody fluid with a disagreeable and sickening odor is discharged The principal general symptoms of the disease are loss of appetite high fever and lameness when themuscle3 of the legs are affected Near ly all affected animals die within one and one half to three days from the time of attack 60 yearling heifers for sale cheap 35 J A Adauson Notice to jtfon Eesident Defendant In the District Court of Cherry
