Old Sol appeared on time as usual
Saturday morning and cast his ray of
wormth and benevolence upon the
prepared grounds at Woodlake also
upon Mr Latta as he rammed home
the 13th charge for the village six
pounder and as the hair raising roar
broke through our sleep laden intellect
we realized that it was time that we
arose and with rackets grand vairate
proceed to celebrate July the fizz

Eorth came the pilgrims from the
hills headed for Woodlake and a good
time and as the clock chimed ten be
hold our eyes jested upon 1000 souls
assembled and the end was not yet
The Ainsworth band arrived with a
numerous following about 10 a m
and were escorted to the grand bowel
by the Woodiake drum and fife corps
There the morning parade was soon
arranged and heralded by strains of
excellent music the car of liberty
bearing the state surrounded goddess
in white passed slowly up Main street
haltinsr before the prepared bower
Here some excellent musical selections
were rendered by the Ainsworth band
Repairing theri to the shady hall the
assembled hundreds were accorded a
hearty welcome by President C A
Barnes who then announced the morn
ting programme
After the noon repast the crowd re
paired to the village common to -witness
the field sports
the programme
Music by the Woodlake Glee Club
was well rendered as were the follow
ing selections of the Ainsworth band
and were received with thunderous
applause
Xext followed speeches by Charles
Eerguson and W Bailey of Woodlake
which were well delivered and re
ceived
On the introduction of J

greeted thegentleman was xcelleut
evidence of bis popularityand in the
very able oration with which Mr
JSeridey favored the multitude he did
both himself and the occasion full jus
tice forever winning the good will of
the Woodlake committee as the speech
was and has since been mentioned as
a source of great gratification to them

The evening freight brought a small
delegation from Valentine amongst
whom were Misses Stoner Callett and
Hilsinger Messrs Hopkins Hahu and
Brayton
The evening ball was well attended
and all seemed to enjoy themselves to
the utmost thereat as well as with the
excellent display of fireworks given
Woodlake did herself proud and as
a town for fun has won a place in the
front rank The business men of
Woodlake should be remembered by
all for their untiring efforts in striving
to meke of July 3rd a day of rejoicing
for their visitors
A neighborhood picnic was indulged
in at Sparks no attempt at a regular
celebration being made The day was
spent in social pastimes and the din
ner was equal to any of those which
have made Sparks housewives famous

is a former resident of Oluey and was
captured while on a visit to relatives
