recentfirein Rock county when a 5000 frame courthouse burned to 1the ground should fill the minds of Cherry county voters with apprehen sion and it no doubt will The bond election will be held May 4th A fact not generally known but a faefraevertheless is that the mother of -an illegitimate child even if she is under age can exercise tlrerght of a head of family and take a home stead under the United Sates laws If a woman adopts a child she can ex- ercise the same -right One of the most optimistic news paper boys we know of is T -S Arm rstong ofthe 3utte Gazette He is eternally standing up for Boydrcounty and looks at life from the rosy side Humor in T S is abundant and he never roasts a man without vinaking him appear ridiculous A lady writes underthe date of one day last weak -Enclosed find a dol lar for a -years subscription and I think you ought to feef a llttieilattered as this is my first subscription to a paper of your political faith We do The moral is plain and modesty alone prevents us from pointing to it A Prussian named Chassagne has discovered a proces for photographing objects in their natural colors which is -said to be so simple and inexpensive thatany photographer can use it A syndicate has been formed and patents obtained in all the leading countries where branch houses for the use of the discovery will be established There is -much woe among the ultra populists of Kansas They have been j wondering about their new senator Harris ever since they elected him Their new supreme court justices are giving down decisions in favor of the -railroads and now Governor Leedy has -vetoed their big railroad bill The Kansas air is loaded to the point of saturation with unholy suspicion -State Journal The publisher of the Avoca Iowa Herald recently sued a delinquent sub igcriberand recovered judgment for seven years subscription with costs amounting to -24 The paper had -been ordered stopped and had re turned from the postoffice as refused but the subscriber had not paid up arrearages and hisname was contin ued on the books and the paper was mailed to his address The decision of the court was that -a subscriber ould be held for subscription until all arrearages were paid There it no doubt that many of the called American citizens m Cuba oca frauds of the firstwater Jlb a rule they see plantation owners who have -acquired American citizenship by a tnero declaration of intention so that tear mar claim the protection of this 4Bofey Many of them have made 4ectaeation of indention for the tpur 08 of obtatoingtbe support of this ceuay in protecuttng claims against Spate for damage to their -property etheos are men connected with the re- fMNiNU fffctse motive is to embroil this counfcey with Spam in order to destroy on zh island t tS WILL FALL IN t It Wdtildbe hard to imagine a more interesting and typical picture of the condition of political life in the United States than is preseuted by the Cabinet of the new Administration at Wash ington The Secretary of State was born in a log cabin The Secretary of the Navy and the PostmasterJGeueral are the only college graduates The Secretary of the Treasury was once a watchman in a lumber yard The Secretary of War and the SecreOary of the Interior are self made millionaires The Attorney-General is a coreligionist of the Lord Chief Justice of Great Britain and the Secretary of Agriculture is of foreign birth Of such a Cabinet it can be truly said that it is wholly free from dis crimination on account of birth creed social antecedents or any form of sec tionalism JTto York World The Western News proposes that a meeting of the populist editors of the north half of the Big Sixth sional District be held in Valentine some time in June for the purpose of organizing themselves for more effect ive work We wonder if they will let Bobby Good in on this You ought to be able to get in on this some way Bob Ainswofth Star Journal Sorry but we cant see how were to get in unless we crawl under the can vass and that is well nigh impossible since we are a straight democrat Guess Well have to be contentto be a Looker on in Venice but weveplay ed even by calling a meeting of demo cratic editors and in that meeting we will bea majority and can have thing our own wav Thecitizens of Ains worth have generously-raised 100 with which to pur chase tf arm implements and machinery sufficient to establish and operate at Ainsvvorth this season an experiment al SoilCultureStation to demonstrate in the neighborhood the value of this new discovery This svstem has been 8uccessfullylemonstrated in South Da kola lvansj s and parts of Nebrtiska and under it the best crops possible can be raised with 9 inches ot rain fall As we have an average rain fall of 1 1 inches this system of soil culture is the salvation of this part of the country and is within the reach of all and in finitely better than costly irrigation Ainaworth Star Jo u ma h 0ur call
