To iftie Honorable Board of CcuntoCommissionerain and for Cheixv Countv Nekraskai
We the undersigned citizens and voters in said County would moat respectfully petition your hon
orable body to call a Special election of the voters of said County for the purpose of voting upon the
proposition whether hevsaid County sof Cherry shall issue bonds m the ramount of Twelve Thousand
ollars 12000 for the purpose of building a Court House in the Village of Valentine tf or the use of
said County the said bonds to be issued in the sum of Gne Thousand Dollars 1000 each payable 20
years from date and bearing interest -at the rate of five per cent per annuia said interest payable semi
annually -at the office of the Treasurer of said County
Weyour petitioners are prompted o so petition in order that our county may be saved the large
annual outlay necessary under present conditions to iprovide rooms for ihe use of our couiaty officers
We further beg to represent that the rooms now occupied are inefficient aind dangerous that the de
struction of our records by fire would -entail incalculable loss upon the eounty and that -the annual
rentals 800 now being paid would pay the interest on the proposed bonds and leave a balance of 200
per annum to the credit of the taxpayers of the county thus saving enough during the life of the bonds
to discharge one third of the debt all of which is respectfully submitted

Beanclde the Debt
Yesterday County Treasurer Crabb
paid off Cherry County Funding Bond
No 1 for 1000 held by the First
National Bank of Barre Vermont
There doesnt seem to be much in that
statement but behind itis a storv of
progress In 1S85 Cherry county
issued eight one thousand dollar fund
ingionds payable in 20 years The
interest on each of these bonds is 60
per annum and as they have nine
years yet to run the county saves in
interest on this one bond 540
Treasurer Crabb informs us that at
least six of these bonds will be taken
up by Julyl Some of them may not
bewailed in until after May when the
interest is payable but the saving in
interest will be about 3500 The
entire series of eight will probably be
taken up by Jan 1 Do you see the
courthouse argument in that If the
county debt is reduced 8000 no in
creased levy of taxes will be needed tc
create a sinking fund for the court
house bonds The sinking fund lefvy
need be very small for Uhe first ten
years and as the taxable property Of
the county is constantly increasing in
value taxes will not increase to any
appreciable extent on account of court
house bonds
