A letter from F W Taylor super intendent of the Farmers Institute dpartaaeut of the8tate university says hts has arranged to hare speakers here on March 3d and 4th Bridge Superintendent v Spencer of the FJE M V R R was in town Monday He says the company has just pufcin a forty stall steam sheep shearing plant near Casper MURDERER ARRESTED Stfeeriff Strong Captured Cyras JBdin Ker Wnated at Denver laast Thursday night Sheriff Amos Strong arrested Cyrus Edinger alias Jas McDonald for the murder lot Policeman k J Moore in Denver I Colo on the night of March 19 18 The arrest was made without trouble Edinger having been -spotted from a picture and description in an illustrate ed paper and Sunday morning Chief of Detectives Sam Howe arrived nnd took the prisoner back to Denver with him Monday morniag sheriff Stroug accompanying tfesm Cyrus Edinger was raised at Ri7er side Gal here his patents now pre side and started in a lift of crimeai an early age being arrested at ly land Ore 10 years breaking Underthe name of Harry Trimmer he was sent to the house of correction at Portland in 1887 In 1891 e was sent to the penitentiary at Salt Lake Utah for three years under the name of Jas MeDinaUl He es caped from th prison and was mxt J arrested at Deer Lodti Mont for burglary and was sentenced to one year in thp pen as Jas Cunningham after which he was returned to Salt Lake City to complete his unexpired term in the prison there He wjts dis charged February 25rli 1895 and went to Denver where he and his partner Collins were arrested for burglary on March 19 While on way to jail he shot and killed Officer Moore and made his -escape Evidently he went directly to Omaha for he enlisted in the U S army there on April 5th and was assigned to Co B Twelfth In fantry at Fort Niobrara where he re mained until his arrest Edinger bore a good reputation while at the post here and made nu merous friends ampng both soldiers and citizens He conducted a sort of DEMOCRAT VALENTINE CHERRY CO NEBRASKA THURSDAY FEBRUARY 1 8 189 For aCarfew Ordutanee A petition was circulated yesterday anxeceived about 75 signatures pray ing the town board to pass an ordi nance prohibiting children from being on the steeets after 7 pm in winter or q pm in summer months This ordinance if passed may havea whole some effect on children who now make night hideous and life a burden to pedestrians and shoppers in the even ing Artesian Well Slen Leave Saturday II B McKeever Arthur McKeever and Daniel Fowler came over from the artesian wfell and Suu day morning the two first named gen tleman started for their home in Fair mont West Virginia Messrs Mc Keever made many friends among our business men while here and it was with regret that we saw them leve All the machinery drills cables tools etc used in drilling the well were left on the reservation and it is very prob able that the same or another crew of workmen will resume drilling in July of this year The appropriation for the well having beeu expended noth ing remained to dobutto quit There is certainly water to be had on the reservation and ifa flow is once ob tained the government will be well re paid for its expenditure in the added livery business on the side at Fort f alue of tne lauds neatthe well NiobTara and hud just entered the Odd -Fellows lodge at this place Sher iff Strong recognised bim from a de scription and photograph which were printed with an offer of 200 dollars re ward for his capture FnpmerHMeetlne The farmers meeting Saturday was cah d to order by Chairman Perkins and in the absence Secretary Pettv crew W S Barker was elected to fill the position On -
