Norfolk beet sugar factory on January 28 shut down -its plant for the season it was after the longest run yet had in the state The factory began receiving be6ts eoine days before September 24 aud on that day commenced opera tions and continued day and night un til Jauuary 28 During this time 36 374 tons of beets were received into the factory and the total output has been 6822200 pounds of at work on the sight of the proposed reservoir miles south of town When com pleted the reservoir will have a water surface of about 16 square miles dotted with numerous little islands which are now sand hills The reser voir will cover 6ev6ral deeded farms and will be formed by connecting Deweys Pelican and other lakes in the vicinity and flooding the surroun ding country with water from the the sky was clear aud the weath er fine Tuesday morning when the early birds arose about 530 or 6 oclock Mother Earth was covered with a blanket of fine white dry snow about 10 inches in thickness and the air was filled with the congealed moisture The snow continued falling until about 10 oclock by which time it had reached a depth of 11 inches govern ment measure The queer thing about the storm is the small area it covered West of town four miles there was but very little snow and east as near as Wood Lake only half an inch fell At Rosebud reservation but a slight fall was had Reports from the trail on Thursday morning the weather per mitting Mr Berry says they will be gin to survey at the point designated as the reservoir site for the purpose of first demonstrating the actual capacity of the same and while this is being done he expects to put in meters into both the Snake and Niobrara rivers to test definitely the capacity of these streams with reference to the supply of water from
