were treated to a sight which is not allotted every man in his brief span of life The night was quiet and clear stars were shining and the moon was sinking behind a bank of clouds on the- western horizon when suddenly the sky was illumina ted as with a powerful calcium v light and objects could oe seen as plainly as during tlte brightest day Hastily glancing toward the south a meteor was seen deseending to the earth with all its gorgeous brightoesv sparks trailing in its course tlielwhole making a scene of dazzling splendor As it descended the meteor assumed the most gorgeous -Tines of the rain bo wY rapidly changing from bine to green then to yellow and orange finally be coming a dull red before it neared the ground and disappeared This was a sight which eclipsed all the efforts of man in the way of pyrotechnieal dis play and will never be forgotten by the two pilgrims who on the lonely prairie at that late hour saw it and were filled with awe as they contem plated the wonderful work of na ture The meteor seemed to fall not more than five miles away W V T O Services at the Methodist church Sunday evening were conducted by the Womans Christian Temperance LTnioD A program was rendered as follows Music by the choir reading of text by Rev Holsclaw and song by Mrs Glov er This was followed by a paper on Temperance in the Sunday School by Mrs O W Morey After this a song was sung by Mrs Wesley Hols claw followed by a paper Temper ance in the Public School Lillian U Stoner Next came a song by the choir and an interesting talk by Mrs C R Glover on The Evils of Intem perance
