What is the most popular play
ever presented on the American stage
This is a question that is occasionally
asked among lobby loungers and is
frequently the case thatsuch dilitante
of the theater has to think several
times and then guessps wrong But
ask any theatrical manager of experi
ence and upon this one point if noth
ing elae they will all agree This is
Uncle Toms Cabin a play as lamii
iar to the older generation as is the
name of George Washington of the
United States of America Such a re
cord is certainly a most remarkable
achievement for any play There ro
many people who rarely if ever attend
the play house unless that it be that
Uncle Toms Cabin is being given
there and the hypocritical may sneer
as they like but if we had more plays
that pointed as directly to a moral as
forcibly and as beautifully as does
Uncle Toms Cabin we would have
a universal stage enjoying the un
qualified admiration and endorsement
of all The famous Cook Twin Sisters
Co will appear at Gordon Hall Fort
