NEBRASKA, SEMI Thursday, October 31, 1963 Objection Made to No-Parking Plan The City Council Monday night heard objections to a pro positi io prohibit parking along newly-paved Lincoln Avenue. Four persons who live In the area who appeared at the meet ing said they believe limited parking would be a sufficient restriction. They said that In winter sometimes they may be unable to get their cars off the street and that on special occa sions when they have several visitors it might be necessary to park cars on the street. At an earlier meeting, the Council had ordered preparation of an ordinance to prohibit parking on newly-paved areas of Lincoln Avenue and Cedar Creek Road as an aid to traffic flow. Monday night, Mayor L. W. Moore referred the matter to the Council's Streets and Alleys Committee for study and report. $800 Cash in Loot from Store At Cedar Creek A total of $800,96 in cash, !n- ' eluding 27 silver dollars, was among loot reported missing from Cedar Creek Store after a break-in Saturday night, Sheriff Fred Tesch said today. The store was entered by i someone who pried open the oacK ooor men openeu me aoui of a vault and pried open the inner door to reach a safe inside the vault. Locks of both the vault and safe were faulty, the Sheriff said, and were not locked. Also reported missing were four guns a .264 Winchester Magnum rifle with scope, .410 shotgun, .25-20 Winchester rifle and a .22 Stevens rifle; a stock from a gun sent In for repair and a-barrel of a Browning shotgun; and boxes of shells foj the Mag num and .410. i Two break-ins at Avoca Thurs day night are believed to have been done by the same parties, Tesch said. There, Marquardt Grain Co. was entered but noth ing was reported missing and Ehlers Feed Store was broken into and $135 in cash, two neck laces and a ball point pen were reported taken. Stop Sign Voted, Another Hinges On Mayor's Vote The City Council voted Mon day night to install a stop sign on 5th Avenue at 8th Street north of Columbian School. Councilman Raymond Smock brought up the matter and made the motion for the sign. A 4-4 tie vote resulted on a motion to install another stop sign, at 15th Street and Avenue A. Voting "Aye" were Smock, Donald Aylor, Sterling Cole and Joe Highfield. Voting "nay" were James McMillian, Elmore Brink, Robert A s p e d o n and Lloyd Morehead. Mayor L. W. Moore, required to vote in case of deadlocks, passed and asked for time to survey the area and consider the matter. Obituary Mrs. Hazel Paylon Maher Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Cald well Chapel for Mrs. Hazel Pay ton Maher, Denver, Colo., who died Oct. 24. Rev. Calvin Miller, pastor of Plattsmouth Baptist Church offi ciated. The music was by Mrs. Twyla Hodge. Pallbearers were Henry Ad kins, Ralph Gerdes, Thomas Germar, Gene Maher, George Maher and George S'ander. Interment was In Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth. Mrs. Maher was born Dec. 19, 1920 at Rock Bluffs, Nebr.. daughter of W. E. and Effie Ful lerton Payton. She was married Dec. 31, 1943 to William M. Maher at Sicux City, Iowa. He survives along with the parents, two sons, Raymond Banks, U. S. Navy in Cuba and Ronald E. Banks, U. S. Marines in the plates; brothers, Ralph and Har old Payton, Plattsmouth. Charles Payton, Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Mrs. Mildred Gerdes, Louisville. The family lived at Tucson. Ariz., Moab, Utah, and moved to Denver in April 1963. WEEKLY JOURNAL. She was born Dec. 2, 1876, at Minier, 111., daughter of Joseph H. and Naomi Henderson Over aker. On Aug. 23, 1900, she was mar ried to George E. Fisher at Peoria, 111. She was a member of t h e Methodist Church and Vesta Chapter No. 6 OES, Omaha. Graveside services will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Oma ha Friday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. J. W. Scott, pastor of the Methodist Church here, offici ating. Visiting hours are today (Thursday) 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 at Caldwell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn, Omaha. Fire Chief's Resignation Effective Nov. 1 Joe Kruntorad, In a letter read Monday night at the City Council meeting, resigned as Plattsmouth Fire Chief, effec tive Nov. 1. He said he has accepted a position as fire Inspector for an aircraft company at Lake wood, Calif. By motion, the Council ex tended a "vote of thanks" to Kruntorad for his service as Chief.
