Miss Shannon took grades 9 and 10 on a tour to Lincoln. They went to see the Post office, State Journal, Nebraska Farmer and KOLN-TV station. Thursday evening a cob pile was set afire by lightening at the Martha Ruge farm farmed by Carroll Carsten southeast of Avoca. Mr. Phillips, a neighbor, came to town to report it. There is no house on the place but was very close to other buildings so not too much damage was done. Robert Hailstrom who was serving on the jury at Omaha Tuesday became ill on his lunch hour. He was taken to an Omaha hospital where he remained sev eral days for tests and was able to come home Thursday. Mrs. Emma Rawalt accompa nied Mr and Mrs. Ted Wilson to Omaha Tuesday to help her sis ter, Mrs. Clara Amsbaugh, ob serve her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Noel Golden, Palmyra, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hoback, Sun day. Ten members attended the Lions Club dinner at the cafe Tuesday night. Irvin Osterli.sh, Hooper, was a guest and spoke on the "Meaning of Lions Club" and described his trip to Miami, Fla. Neil Johnson then showed pictures of his trip to Canada this summer. Woman's Club met Wednes day evening with Mrs. Floyd Burke. There was group singing "Scarlet and White" the Avoca High School song. Mrs. Paul Wolph gave a talk on "High lights In history In Cass and Avoca precinct- Delegates were elected to attend the district meeting at Syracuse Oct. 21 They were Mrs. Eldon Ahrens alternates, Mrs. J- W. Brendel and Mrs. Rawalt. Jeffery Eldon DeFreece, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben DeFreece, Lnicoln, received rites of bap tism Sunday with Rev. Glenn Shultz officiating. Mr- and Mrs. Lenord Brinkhoff and family, the grandparent, hud s dinner at their home following the serv ice. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Ben DeFreece, his parents Mrs. Ben DeFreece and Betty, Burr, grandmother. Rev. and Mrs. Glenn Shultz and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wilcox, Lake Worth, Florida, have been guests at the Elmer Hailstrom home. Tuesday evening Mr. Wil cox became ill and was taken to Nebraska City hospital where he remained several days. Mrs. Maude Test, Mitchell, 8. Dakota, is also a guest at the Hailstrom home. The milo. approximately 15.000 bushels was removed from the streets to the elevator the past week. It was dumped on the paved street awaiting drying and for cars for shipping. A new building, a bulk fertilizer blend ing plant, is being erected east of the elevator. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Trotter returned Monday from a two weeks trip to western Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming. They visited Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Geyas lcr at Palisade, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. C. E.
