Bible School have Bible School June 3 through 7 and 10 through 14 for children aged 5 through the 8th grade. Dully classes will begin at 9 a.m. and run through 11:30. LaPlatte Community Church will sponsor their Bible School Jur.e 3 through 7 and 10 through 14 for children entering kinder garten through the 6th grade. Classes meet from 1 to 3:30 each afternoon. Plattsmouth churches plan -ning Vacation Bible Schools are the Presbyterian, Christian, the Southern Baptist, Methodist and Wesleyan Methodist. The Presbyterian VBS will be June 3 through 7 and 10 through 14 In the Christian Education Building on Chicago Avenue. Classes for kindergarten through 6th grade will be from 9 to 11:30 each day. The Christian Church VBS convenes June 3 through 7 anri 10 through 14 from 9:30 to 11:30 for boys and girls kinder garten age through 8th grade. . First Methodist Church has scheduled Bible School for June 10 through 14 and 17 through 21. Dally sessions are from 9 to 11:15 for ages 3 through 6th grade. Wesleyan Methodist Church has set the dsitcs for VBS for June 17 through 21 and 24 through 28. There will be clusses for all boys and girls age 3 through the 7th grade. City Finally Will Take Title To New Park Area The City Council Monday night I southwest Plattsmouth from the authorized expenditure of $7,500 I estate of the late Erna Lapidus. as the initial payment on pur chase of the 25-acre park site in two eighth grade students with (he highest scholastic averages over a two-year period. The three will remain as trus tees and payment for the first approximate one-third of the land will be made through them and a deed to that amount of land will come through them. The city will acquire title to the entire site immediately on payment of the first installment, however, and development under direction of the City Park Board can proceed. Glenn Pankonln of the Park Board was also present at the meeting and Chairman Lloyd Fitch Sr. appeared later in the session to Inquire about funds available for development. Fitch said grading in the north park area in the area of the pro posed athletic field, construction of re't rooms and further devel opment of picnic facilities are on the program this year. Total purchase price of the park site Is $20,000. Cass Countyans of the Week Graves Family Dates Back to By RUTH MILLER Nehawka Special Correspondent Plattsmouth residents will reed no introduction to Judge James H. Graves, but I think everyone will be Interested In some family history he recently gave me. A relative, Mrs. Genevieve Peters of Arlington, Va., has compiled this Information: "Little is known of the early life and background of John Graves, who settled on Stinking Quar'er Creek, a branch of the Almanace In Orange County, N. C, possibly In 1757 as the earliest record the writer found at Hillsboro, N. C, was a deed from Hugh Dobbins to one John Here, as In most communities across the nation, people will pause Thursday, Memorial Day, to pay tribute to the nation's war dead. The service, sponsored by the American Legion Post, will be at the American Legion Plot at Oak Hill Cemetery and will start at 10 am. Assembly will be at 9:45 at the GAR plot where a brief service will be held. The Memorial address will be b" the Rev. J. Willard Scott, pas tor of First Methodist Church. In case of rain, the .service will be at the High School Auditor ium. Linda Stander, Roger Roberts Win Awards Roger Roberts and Linda Stander are recipients of the John Phillips Sousa Award, pre sented by the Plattsmouth Band Parents Club. They were named "because of their outstanding contri butions to Plattsmouth High School's Instrumental Music Program by their ability, lead ership and performance through their high school years." This award was given by the Plattsmouth Band Parents Club for the first time this year and honors the outstanding senior boy and girl by presenting each a desk set and lapel pin. Their names were entered on a plaque which will hang in the band room and other names of future winners will be placed their al so. Both plan to attend collegfe this fall "as music majors. Sweet 16 Contest To Start Friday The Plattsmouth Mrs. Jay cees' Sweet Sixteen Contest will be In full swing Friday morning, when voting containers will be put in various stores to begin the voting. The crowning of the Sweet Sixteen Queen will be held dur ing the Jaycee Carnival, held here June 13 - 15. B. Rogers, 58, Dies Monday; Funeral Friday Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Crosby-Kunold Mortuary, 32nd Avenue and Farnam Street, Omaha, for Adolphus B. (Buck) Rogers, 12602 Pacific Street, Omaha. He was 58. Mr. Rogers died Monday in Omaha. The Rogers family lived In Plattsmouth many years, only recently moving to Omaha. He was born in Woodbine, Iowa, July 16, 1904, son of Adol phus and Margaret Shields Rog ers. Surviving are his wife, Irma; daughter, Mrs. James (Patricia) Hays, O-naha; grandchildren, Roger Lee, Debora Ann and James Scott; and sister, Mrs. Marie Silsby, Carroll, Iowa. Burial will be In Hillcrest Cem etery, Omaha: History 1757 for 640 acres of land, Graves in 1757. "Judging fmm the Orang County records, John Graves was a rather large land-owner and one of the earliest settlers in the county... he moved to North Carolina from Berks Coun ty, Pa. That John Graves did live in Berks County, Pa., be fore settling in North Carolina Is evidenced by the birth re cords of two sons Jacob and Boston contained in the Dun kel Church birth and baptismal records, Greenwich Township, Berks County, Pa."
