Mrs. John Knabe, president, presided. She gave a renort on the Cass County Tea held el Weeping Water Tuesday. Their club was among those honored for comnletlon of all their goals. At 5:30 p m. the ladies attended a Women's Fellowship banquet at the Paddock Hotel, while the men attended a ban quet at the Methodist Church. Rev. Zion Command ery No. 5 at the Masonic Tem ple In Plattsmouth. Linda and Sue tied for first place In the essay awards and each received a $25 bond, after readlr.g their essay. Hcorable mention went to Connie Skalak of Plattsmouth. Linda is the 15-year-old daugh ter of Mrs. Waller and the late W. Waller. She is a sophomore at Nehawka High School. Sue Is the 12-year-old daughter of the Schlichtemelers and Is In the 7th grade at Murray School. The essay topic was "Do Am ericans Appreciate Their Free dom?" The awards were pre sented by Sr Knight Wm, Todd The contest was open to the Plattsmouth, Murray and Ne hawka schools. SEALTEST - Nehawka Women Host To District Club Officers NEHAWKA (Special) The Nehawka Woman's Club enter tained district and county offic ers at their meeting Friday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. Amelia Balfour. Mrs. Calvin Stearns of Ray mond, District 1 president, spoke cr. ftderation,f)elling out the word and using as her topics: Fellowship, Education, Desire to better your community, En thusiasm, Responsibility; Action, Tolerance, Interest, Opportunity &rC New awareness. Mrs. Nelson Berger of Lincoln who retained her membership In the Nehawka Club was pro gram chairman. She opened the program with a poem on spring and Introduced each speaker. Mrs. W. A. Robertson of Lin coln spoke on "China, the Country Americans Do Not Know" and "Tibet." Other officers present were Mrs. Kenneth McDonald ci Greenwood, chairman of leader f hip, alcoholism und tourism. She gave statistics on alcohol ism and how it affects the lives of each one daily by crime, traf fic accidents etc. Mrs. Harold Brugman of Doug las, chairman of the Junior Women's Clubs, told of her work if. this department. Mrs. Ernest Overton of Neb raska City, chairman of safety, health, gerantology and civil de fense, gave a brief review of each topic. She also told of the Korean student at the Univer sity of Nebraska, sponsored by the Women's Clubs of Nebraska. Mrs. Charles Marshall, Avoca, Cass County president, gave a brief talk. Other guests were Mrs. Jack Hlnes, Mrs. Stuart Schlichtemeier and Sue. Mrs. George Sheldon presided. She announced the library of Nehawka had received $1,000 from the Edward Knabe estate. Mrs. Sheldon attended the work shop at Greenwood Monday. De volicr.s were by Miss Evelyn Wolph. Mrs. Stearns installed the of ficers with a c'andlclighting ser vice. Mrs. George Sheldon is president; Mrs. Emma Nutzman, vice president; Mrs. Ellis Lacy, 2nd vice president; Mrs. Martin Ross, secretary; Mrs. Will Ost, treasurer. Mrs. Berger present ed each officer a gift, a flower holder. Mrs. Martin Ross, music chairman, presented Sue Schlich temeier who playeo three piano selections. Mrs. Will Ost and Mrs. F. O. Sands were co-hostesses. Next meeting June 7 will be a luncheon at Stelnhart Lodg with Mrs. John Chandler In charge of arrangements and program. BETROTHAL Mrs. George Thun of this city announces the engagement of her daughter, Bette, to Keith J. Himmelein, son of Mrs. Z. Tlcar of Saginaw, Michigan. Bette, a I960 graduate of Plattsmouth High School, will be graduated from St. Catherine's School of Nursing In August. Airman Himmelein, a graduate of St. Andrew's in Saginaw, is presently stationed at Offutt Air Force Base. A Fall wedding is planned. Greenwood Briefs GREENWOOD (Special) The Little Miss Muffets 4-H Club met at the home of Mrs. Harold Pil fold with 8 members present. Marlene Wall was a vUitor. Francis Wall and Mary Ann Kaufman baked snlckerdoodles. Refreshments consisted of tea and the snlckerdoodle the girls baked. Rose .nn Vslder, re porter. Correction: Last week It was reported Ralph Grady had en tered the hospital. It should of been, the small son, Russell, of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Grady was in the hospital couple days with an ear Infection. American Legion Auxili ary met at the Legion hall Tues day, April 24, with Mrs. Kenneth O'Rourke a.s hostess. Eight mem bers and one visitor were pres ent. After opening procedures the meeting was brought to order by the president Mrs. Ed Stradley. The assignment from the Vet eran's Hospital which was mak ing bibs was received and dis tributed to the members to be made. A contribution was made to the forgotten children's fund. It was also decided that the Unit send cards to any member of a Veteran's family that are a jhut in or ill. After the meeting the hostess served a lunch. Mrs. John Johnson took her 5th and 8th grade students on a field trip to Lincoln. They visited Nebraska Neon Sign Co., Roberts Dairy, Police and Fire Depart ment, Morrill Hall. Nebraska Historical Society and Planetar ium Sky Show. The drivers were Mrs. Albert Hill, Mrs. Harold Wright, Mrs. Norman Willadsen and Mrs. Ralph Moore. Other mothers ac companying the group were Mrs. John Johnson, the teacher, Mrs. Lester DeBrle, Mrs. Oeorge Casey and Mrs. Bud Bauenack. The group enjoyed a sack pic nic lunch at the Antelope park at noon. The Greenwood Methodisl Church was host to the Ca3s Co. Council of Churches Sunday eve ning. Larry Pershing gave the message. Murdock EUB Church won the banner for the most at tendance. Refreshments were served during the social hour. Frank Leihlinger, administrator of Avoca and Syracuse parishes, was honored with a dinner at Syracuse Sunday for his Silver Jubilee in the priesthood. High mass preceded the din ner. His parents from Cleve land were present. Fr. Daniel Pohl, assistant pastor, acted as toastmaster. Three hundred were present, In cluding former parishoners from i Loma and Sutton where he was pastor. j TOUR TO OMAHA AVOCA (Special) The Jun ior High students and Mrs. j Streeton toured places of Inter-! est In Omaha, had dinner and the boys attended the show "The Ugly American"; the girls,! "Come Fly -with Me." Several mothers accompanied the group on the bus. ' Cemetery Auxiliary AVOCA (Special) The Cem etery Auxiliary held its cash donation meeting Friday at the church. The business session was op ened by President Mrs. Earl Freeman. A financial report was given by Mrs. Nancy Carsten for Treasurer Mrs. Sill; and Mrs. Clara Ruhge, a report on the Perpetual Care Fund. A short program was opened by a prelude by Mrs. Henry Maseman. Several readings were given by Mrs. Eva Bond; a solo, suns by Mrs. Jerry Pointer and one by Mrs. Henry Maseman, ac companied by Mrs. Pointer. Mrs. Splat acted as secretary In the absence of Miss Bertha Neumeister. Hostesses were Mrs. Louis All gayer, Mrs. Marion Pittman, Mrs. Wrn. The welcome was by Larry Kepler, junior, the response by Sharon Wohlers, senior; Supt. Floyd Burke spoke en "Make Your Dreams Materialize" and Mike Roach on "Graduation More than Meets the Eye." Mrs. Burke. Coach Seymour and Mrs. Hagenmiller gave short talks also. Guests were members of the School Board and their wives, all the school faculty, cooks, cus todian and bus driver and Rev. and Mrs. P?-ry Burkhart.
