THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL Monday, December 24, 1962. PAGE FIVE 300 May Enroll For 'Electronic Farm Records' LINCOLN More than 300 farmers are expected to enroll in the University of Nebraska electronic farm record project In 1963. The project which was organ ized a year ago has resulted in considerable response and su stained Interest among the original farm cooperators, re ports Dean Brown, University Extension farm economist. "If the number of cooperators Increases to 250-300, we can strengthen both the education al and research aspects of the project. Interested farmers should contact County Exten sion agents or vocational agri culture Instructors. "In 1962 we concentrated pri marily on basic overall farm business management account ing and home accounts of fam ily living expenses," Brown said. "In 1963, we plan to develop en terprise accounting and analy sis, particularly for livestock production." The Nebraska Electronic Farm and Home Record Project is car ried out cooperatively by the Agricultural Extension Service and the State Division of Voca tional Education under the sup ervision of the Department of Agricultural Economics. Automatic data processing equipment Is used in summariz ing, analyzing and interpreting farm business records. In addi tion, the project Included an educational and research pro gram aimed at emphasizing the importance of complete and ac curate farm accounts in the management of the farm busi ness. Farmers sign up to send in farm and home records on a monthly basis. They receive quarterly and annual financial summaries of their farm bust1 ness. In addition, they receive a 10 - month tax- management summary; and ah annual man agement analysis of their farm business tecords. This Informa tion ' coupled with the. area and statewide summaries will be helpful to cooperators in: Completing their income tax reports; Counceling with credit a- gencies concerning their credit needs; and Overall management of the farm business. As a result of the program, area and statewide summaries of farm Income and costs will not only be valuable to the farm record project cooperators, but also to other farmers interested In using such information, Brown points out. County Extension agents and vocational agriculture . teachers across the state have been at tending special workshops on farm and home records. As a re sult, they are in a position to answer questions about the Record Project in 1962 and plans for 1963.
