Mrs. Howard Maasen and daughters, Diane and Ilyeen of Avoca, Iowa, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lambert and sons from Tuesday until Thursday. Mrs. Oren Pollard, Kathy, Barbara, and Robbin of Schal er, Iowa visited at the home of her brother and family the Gene Nolte's from Saturday to Thurs day. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Todd entertained his aunts, Mrs. Ly dia Croy and Mrs. Helen Mack prang of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Margaret Todd to dinner at their home Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lan caster visited at the home of her parents the Marlon Worthans. Rusty Snodgrass, a grandson of the Worthans, who Is home on furlough from the Service was a visitor there also. Mrs. Sheppard and son Brian of Huntington, Va., are visiting at the home of her mother, Mrs. Glen Boedecker. They plan to leave for home today. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Spangler and family attended a going away party at the Everett Spangler home In Omaha Thurs day evening In honor of Everett Spangler who is leaving soon for Argentina, So. America. Mr. Spangler will be there three months helping to set-up a Farm Credit System. The Kenosha Extension Club won a purple ribbon on their window display entitled "Vaca ton in Nerbaska" at the Cass County Fair at Weeping Water. Mrs. Greeley Beil is president of the club. Charles Mead's guests are Dr. John Gilmore and daughter Joanne of Santa Monica, Calif., who arrived Thursday in Omaha by jet plane. SSgt. Robert Custer of Goose Bay, Labrador is home with his family, Mrs. Custer and children on an emergency furlough. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shantz of Wayland, Iowa visited in the home of their daughter and family the Robert Custers from Monday to Wednesday. The Cus ter children, David, Terry, and Roberta returned home with their grandparents and enroute they stopped at Des Moines and attended the Iowa State Fair. Mrs; Harry Wilson and Paul ine attended the fair at Weeping Water Wednesday evening. Rev. and Mrs. Victor Schwarz and family returned Friday from a week of vacation, camping at Halsey National Forrest, Gavins Point Dam and other points of Interest. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hansen of Omaha were dinner and supper k ut is oi Mr. and Mrs. Fred Campbell Aug. 17. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ken Camp bell, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Campbell of Lincoln, and Mr. and Mrs John Parkening of Plattsmouth. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burton and son Steve of Grand Island are staying at the home of his sister and family the John Stones while visiting relatives in this area. CHAMPION HEIFER Diane Champion steer last year at the Carolyn Witte Carolyn Witte Completes Wave Basic Training Carolyn Barbara Witte, dau ghter of Sgt. and Mrs. Walter L. Witte of Plattsmouth, completed ten weeks of basic training at Recruit Training Women, Unit ed States Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Md., and was grad uated during a military review held Aug. 17. The local Wave, a graduate of Plattsmouth High School, will spend a 14-day leave with her family before reporting to U.S. Naval Station Treasure Island, San Francisco, for general duty in administration. She enlisted at the U.S. Navy Recruiting Station, Federal Building, Omaha, for three years June 6. Obituary JOHN LUKEN John Luken was born on Oct ober 7, 1879, near Langdon, Mo., the son of Mennen Luken and his wife Hilka Clausen. As a youth he made public profession of the Christian faith in the Rite of Confirmation and was admitted into communicant membership with the Lutheran Church in Langdon, Mo. On Jan. 24, 1906 in Corning, Mo., he was married to Miss Lula Marie Buck. They had two sons and one daughler. A son, Gilbert, preceded him in death. He lived in Corning, Mo., and Salem, Nebraska before coming to Louisville in 1937. A lingering illness of some five years came to an end Wed nesday morning, Aug. 22. Mr. Luken has been a faithful lifelong member of the Luth eran Church. Surviving is his wife Mrs. Lula Luken; son, P.aul and daughter, Rowena, (Mrs. Charles Gaebel.) both of Louisville; five grand children. Funeral services were Aug. 24 at 2:30 in the Immanuel Luth eran Church, Louisville. Rev. T. H. Vogel, officiated. Christian Stohlmann was solo ist and Mrs. LeRoy Jochim was organist. Pallbearers were Lloyd Braack, Jim McClun, Burde'te Hoover, Richard McCoy, John Lisle and Joel Heim. Interment was In Immanuel Cemetery, Louisville. Kathy and William Anderson, jr. of Omaha and Michael Issac of Manley are spending this week with Mrs. Frank Pace and attending the County Fair. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Urwin and Alan were Sunday dinner guests. Mr. and Mrs. George Bates at tended the wedding anniversary dinner on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Kopp of Plattsmouth, honoring them on their 50th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Bates Ls a sister of Mr. Kopp. She had saved for fifty years the wedding cigar from their wedding, a ribbon from the candy that they passed out and the invitation and several papers about their wedding. She presented these treasured items to Mrs. Kopp at the dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meisinger and family were Sunday after noon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bergmann and Debra. They were lunch guests. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wiles and five children of Waterloo, Iowa were Tuesday guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Wiles. Melvin Wiles called at the Wiles home on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. George Wiles were celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. Mrs. Herbert Petersen enter tained at a breakfast on Thurs day morning for her birthday. The guests were Mrs. Ben Olive, Mrs. Henry Knaup, Mrs. Frank Cook, Mrs. T. H. Hanlan, Mrs. Fred Ward and Mrs. Sam Hughes. Mrs. Petersen did not let the guests know that it was her birthday until they ar rived. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Urwin and Alan were Monday and Tuesday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cooper. Ricky Cooper was a Monday supper guest. Mrs. Amos Bates visited with Mrs. Cooper on Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meisinger and family were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene the champion heifer. Diane is a member of the Cass County Fancy Feeders 4-11 Club and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dietl. Arnold Det mer and David accompanied her and went on to Benedict and Stromsburg to visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. James Kivett left on Saturday night for Tyler, Texas to take their two grand children home. CONSUMERS County Seeks Return of Check Forger A legal tussle between Cass County authorities and Missouri authorities over a man wanted In Cass County moved one step closer to a "showdown" Tues day In Vernon County, Mo. L. P. Ames of Missouri Is charged in Cass County with is - suing five insufficient fund checks May 16. 17 and 18 of this year, totaling $4,002.20. The checks wore in payment for grain purchased in Cass County. Charges wore filed in June and a warrant sent to Missouri authorities for Amos' arrest but Missouri officers refused to act, despite repeated requests from Cass County authorities. Tuesday, Sheriff Tom Solo mon arrived at the Vernon Coun ty, Missouri. Courthouse at 8 a.m. on instructions from Coun ty Attorney Jim Begley to find out the difficulty. After a day long legal battle, Solomon got Ames before the Judge on a "fugitive from justice" com plaint. After the court hearing, the Missouri Judge ruled in favor of Cass County and the proceeding was ordered sent to the Gover nor of Missouri. Extradition pro cedings may now be initiated by the Cass County Attorney's of fice for action through the Ne braska Governor's office. Solomon said the file in Ver non County, Missouri, includes warrants from seven other coun ties in three states, all of which were unacted upon. Ames' first arrest came Tuesday afternoon.
