I I I I I I I I I I Giants, Dodgers Win Playoff Titles; Braves, Cubs Play The Giants defeated the regular-season champion Indians Tuesday, 9-3, to win the Pee Wee League playoff title and the Dodgers downed the Red Sox, 6-3, to add the Midget League playoff crown to their season title. The Cubs and Braves play today in the deciding game of the Wee Wee League playoff. Playoffs In the three leagues were double-elimination. The Braves, with their backs to the wall, downed the Orioles, 13-1, Monday and the Cubs, 10-5, NEWS From EAGLE Mrs. John Fischer Phone 984-6141 Mr. and Mrs. Ernest L. Trum ble and family, of Durant, Okla homa and his mother, Mrs. Marie Trumble and her grand daughter, Cindy Bookout of Al hambra, California, are visiting relatives and friends in Eagle. On Monday were dinner guests at the Wm. Trumble home. Mrs. Sadie Trumble is recov ering slowly, but satisfactorily from her injuries caused by a fall at her home, a few weeks ago. Mrs. James Nuttle entertained with a get-acquainted coffee hour, at her home Monday morning, by serving several la dles in her home with co-hostesses, Mmes. Wesley Lowell and Fritz Bull. Rev. and Mrs. Dean Lanning and family have been visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orin Lanning and also his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Lan ning at Eagle. Mr. and Mrs. Orin Lanning moved into their lovely new home In Eagle several days ago and their son and family from New Jersey arrived for a visit soon after, all enjoying the new home and visit. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Scatter good and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Sorensen and family of Ruskin, Neb., attended a Scat tergood relatives picnic dinner at Bethany Park Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Johnson and family of Portland, Oregon are visiting at her parents, the Jul ius Morrisons at Lincoln. Mrs. Ella Goodwin, of Lincoln spent last Sunday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Carrie Schmidt. Mrs. Elmer Frohlich of Den ver, Colorado, visited a few days at the home of Mrs. Nina Frohlich and with other rela tives and friends during her stay. John Fischer entered the St, Elizabeth Hospital last Tuesday and Is receiving the medical at tention in preparation for the special Therapy available at the above hospital. Mrs. Nellie Root is under going medical attention and visits at the Bryan Memorial Hospital in preparation for a back surgery in the near future. Doyle Wood, of Palmyra, well known by Eagle community, suf fered fatal injuries enroute to his employment at Lincoln and Tuesday to stretch the Wee Wee League playdown to the limit. In the Pee Wee League, the In dians had stayed alive in their bid for a fourth straight playoff crown by defeating the White Sox, 13-9, Monday. The Giants finished in a tie for third in the regular season in the four-team league. The Midget League Red Sox defeated the regular-season run nerup Yankees, 8-3, Monday to carry their bid to a showdown with the Dodgers. The Red Sox finished third in the regular sea son. Tuesday night after the playoff games, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hill treated all the boys in the Cham ber of Commerce-sponsored rec reation baseball program and their parents to a watermelon feed. death came at 11 a.m. Monday morning a few hours after the accident, at a Lincoln hospital. Mr. Wood and Miss Linda Doug las, of Palmyra were engaged and planning to be married, in the near future. Miss Douglas Is a sister of Mrs. Joy Rodaway, at Eagle. Both were attendiing the University of Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. George Bickert of Castro Valley, Calif., and his sister, Genevieve and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bradham and son of Milwaukee, Wiscon sin have been visiting Mr. Beck ert and Mrs. Bradham's sister and family, the Lester Donlan's. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cudak of New York City visited last week at her brother's home, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Donlan and family and will return for a short visit before leaving for home. A recent visitor at the Carl Johnson Sr. home were Emile Barry of Alvin, Texas and also a nephew Robert Johnson Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn., enroute home from visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson Sr. at Portland, Oregon and also attended the "World's Fair," at Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Carl Peters came after her Friday and brought her home this Saturday. She celebrated her birthday the 27 of July. Carol and Bruce Towne, grandchildren of Mrs. A. B. Stroemer were with her at Church Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Max Towne the chil dren's parents have been vaca tioning in Minnesota, aLso Carol and Bruce, the two younger Children were in Alvb with Mrs. Stroemer. The Towne family left for their home In Kimballton, Iowa, Sunday. Mrs. Esther Clark and Mrs. Ray Schweitzer were "Greeters" at Church, Sunday. The Melvin Adams family have gone to the Black Hills for a vacation. They took their camping equipment. They are in the Grocery store. Mrs. Don Elliott, Mrs. Fred Hermann and Mrs. Ellis Mickle are at the store this week. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hermann had their grandson, Stephen Hermann of Lincoln with them from Tuesday until Thursday evening. They went to the home of their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Hermann, Thursday evening for birthday cake cel ebrating their granddaughter, Lori's third birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Vernon and family have moved to Bel mcnt, they were in the first house north of Mrs. Virginia Norria. Mrs. Grace Copple with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Norris of Weeping Water went by bus to Cheyenne, Wyoming to visit a brother of Mrs. Copple and Mrs. Norris, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hinds and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Robinson and then went to Denver t0 visit Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Stack.
