Harold Ahl entered the Clark son hospital in Omaha Friday for observation and treatment. Carol Brunson, Susan Freder lckson and Margaret Peterson left Sunday to attend Girl Scout camp at Camp Wakanda at drLswold, Iowa. .Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Tennant were Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Schroeder and Carol of Syracuse and Mr. and Mrs. John Ritter of Weep ing Water. A group of relatives gathered Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Anna Meisinger to help her celebrate her birthday. Birthday cake and ice cream were served. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Em mons Meisinger of Nebraska City, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Mei singer and Kathryn of Platts mouth and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Meisinger and family of Ne hawka. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Tennant and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Reed arid Rita were Tuesday guests at the M. K. Mrs. Anna Pogue returned home last week after spending two months visiting relatives and friends in Evansville, 'ill. She also visited at the home of her brother and family, Clar ence Armburst and family while in Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Currier and family, Ralph Wildrick, Donald and Agnes and Stan Olsen of Omaha were Wednesday eve ing callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wildrick. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Beck and children left Monday morning to spend a week visiting Mr. Beck's uncle and family, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Beck and fam ily at White Deer, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Smith, Jr., and family of Murdock, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith, Linda and Cheryl of Papillion were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Smith, Sr., In Millard. Henry Doermann, Mrs. Leon ard Vaughn, Jean and Susie and Gene Tlustos called on Leonard Vaughn at the Palmyra Depot Tuesday morning. Mrs. Marlon Biggs entered the Clarkson hospital In Omaha Wednesday and underwent sur gery on Thursday morning. She will be there about a week. Mrs. Ed Ingram and her granddaughters, Linda and Cheryl Smith of Papillion were Thursday guests at the home of Teacher 35 Years Tenders Resignation WEEPING WATER (Special) Maude Baldwin has tendered her resignation to the Board of Education of District 22, effec tive July 2. Miss Baldwin has taught for 37 years. Miss Baldwin taught for 12 years at Fullerton, Waverly and: Beatrice. The remaining 25 i years she spent in the Weeping j Water public school, where she ; was the eighth grade teacher ; and elementary school principal! for 14 years, from 1946 to 1960. i Miss Jessie Baldwin and Miss j Maude Baldwin owned and operated the J & M Cafe In : Weeping Water for a few years, j After selling the cafe she re- j turned to teaching. The Gene Ingram fam ily plan to leave Saturday on a vacation to the Pacific Coast. The children and grandchil dren of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ten nant gathered at their home Thursday for dinner to help them celebrate their 57th wed ding anniversary. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Sch roeder and Carol of Syracuse, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Payne and children ,of Springfield and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Reed and Rita. Two grandchildren and their son, Arnold were unable to be present. Mrs. Frank Pace of Weeping Water and her granddaughter, Beverly Shaw of Algonquin, 111., arrived home Monday evening, Mrs. Pace had been visiting for several weeks in Illinois with re latives. Dr. and Mrs. Robert Brockley and sons, Kevin and Bobby of Lincoln, and Mr. -and Mrs. La Rue Williams enjoyed a steak fry at South Bend with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Streeter and family as hosts. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Johnson, Dick and Linda attended ttie Ashland Stir-Up and were guests of Mrs. Johnsons par ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Wollen. Dick won an award on the Pee Wee Baseball team as the most valuable runner-up on the team. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Biggs and Joel who had been visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bog ard and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Biggs for a couple of weeks re turned to their heme in Kansas City, Mo.,. Sunday. Miss Mary Biggs accompanied them home for an extended visit. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Steinkamp left Monday for a f days vacation in ttie Bluck Hills. They plan to attend the Passion Play at Spearfish, South Dakota be fore returning home. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fredrickson and family were Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Fredrickson of Alta, Iowa. Mrs. Bernard Johnson and children are visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Boardman while Mr. Johnson is in Pontiac, 111., hunting a place for his family as he is being transferred there. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ahl and Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Davis of Louisville and Mr. and Mrs. Dar rell Reed 0f Millard attended the dog races near Sioux City Saturday. Thursday afternoon callers of Mrs. Elwin Isaac were Miss Hulda Schliefert of Louisville and Mrs. Maynard Schliefert and Kim of Holdrege. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Janecek and sons of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Eager and sons of Plattsmouth were Sunday eve ning callers of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Isaac and Evelyn. Recent callers at the Carl Meisinger home were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Engelkemeier of Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kroese and family and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glesman and Patty all of Springfield and Mrs. Har old Ahl. of 82. Mr. and Mrs. Fave Joreenson At the age of two years he and family of Omaha were Sun-1 travelled with his parents by cov ered wagon to weDrasKa, seunug in Louisville a short time before coming to Weeping Water. In 1903 he was united in marriage to Ida Elizabeth Metcalf. To this union were born four children, three of them, Sarah, Grade and Hubert preceding him in death. Mr. Cappen was long em ployed here in the quarries around Weeping Water and since his retirement had worked for the water department of the City and at various handyman jobs around town. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving arc his wife, Ida Cappen, a daughter, Mrs. Ida Lorensen; grandchildren, Sarah Hauschild of Nehawka, Richard and Margaret Lorensen of Weep- Obituary Amos S. Cappen J WEEPING WATER (Special) Amos Sylvester Cappen, the eldest of sixteen children born to Sophronia and Frank Cappen, was born in Dunkirk County, Ohio May 10, 1880 and departed this life July 23, 1962 at the age mmm. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Penning ton and son Scotty left Saturday to return to their home in San Antonio, Texas after spending three weeks visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Thurman and his parents in Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Streeter and family vacationed last week at Lake Okoboji. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Christian sen and family of Louisville, Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Van Avery of Ogallala and Mr. and Mrs. E. A Michelsen and family of Weep ing Water gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Michelsen, Sr., Sunday and helped Mrs Michelsen, Sr., celebrate her birthday. Miss Sandra Meisinger of Ne hawka spent several days last wee, wun Mrs. Anna Meisinger near Cedar Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wildrick, Donald and Agnes, Mr. and Mrs Frank Wildrick and Mrs. George Bauers all of Louisville and Mr and Mrs. Bill Kunz and family and Mrs. Fred Wildrick of Weep ing Water were among those who attended the Scott family re union Sunday, July 29 at the Joy Scott home in Friend. The picnic reunion was held in honor of the visit of Mrs. Pearl Kilborn of Los Angeles, California. There were about 50 in attendance. Mrs. Bob Jewell and Mrs Frank Pace of Weeping Water and Mrs. Pace's granddaughter, Beverly Shaw of Algonquin, 111 and Mrs. Joe Sheehan and Margie were Wednesday after noon callers of Mrs. Elwin Isaac in Manley. Jim Dobbs left Tuesday by train to visit for a couple weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Green in St. Louis, Mo. insr Water, Hubert Cappen of Pa pillion, Karen and John Cappen of Weeping Water and Thomas Baker of Redoudt, New York and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by broth ers, George Cappen of Fremont, Edward Cappen of Port Arthur, Texas; sisters, Mrs. Mae Stur man of Baldwin Park, Cali fornia, Mrs. Jessie Young, Guernsey, Wyoming; Mrs. Nellie Bickford of Topeka, Kan., and Mrs. Lillian Brown of Chamber lain, South Dakota. . - ; Funeral services were July 26 at the Methodist Church in Weeping Water at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. S. P. Hackley of the Meth odist Church officiated. Mrs. Neil Fitzpatrick sang, accompa nied by Mrs. John Groesser, or ganist. Pallbearers were Wilson Bick ford, James Wade, Walter Pat-' ton, Carl Rector, William Gwin and Roy Wade. Burial was in Oakwood Cem etery with the Hobson-Dorr Fu neral Home in charge of arrangements.
