Garden Club Members Have Annual Picnic Hattsmouth Ciarden Club held their annual picnic at the home of Mrs. Clarence Akeson Mon day. Twenty-one members at tended to enjoy the beautiful summer day and bountiful .smorgasbord of food w h i e h had been brought. Tables were .set on the lawn, beneath the large .shady elm trees, the flowers and garden making an ideal setting for the event. Helen Hunter wa.s chair man of the one o'clock picnic dinner. A short business session wa.s held with Mrs. Marjory Cole, president, presiding. Discussion was had and suggestions given for a bigger and better Flower Show this year in conjunction with the King Korn Karnival Sept. 20, 21 and 22. Location of the show will be the Consumers Public Power Display room. Theme of the Karuival wa.s announced as Kornland's Gala Festival. Mrs. Arthur Lambert is General Chairman of the Flower Show Committee. Other members are Mrs. Frank Linder, Mrs. Clar ence Akeson and Mrs. Marjory Cole. Mention was made of the Flower Show to be held at Ne hawka July 31 in the MethodLst Church. Several members from the Plattsmouth Garden Club plan to attend. Mrs. W. L. Heinrich, publicity chairman for the club, reported receipt of a letter from Mrs. Charles Smith, Omaha, presi dent of District 13, commending the club for the publicity of their programs, and expressing appreciation to the Plattimouth Journal for .same. A social hour closed the meet ing. SOS Sunday at Nebraska City The second Sabin Oral Sun day at Nebraska City will be July 22 when Type 3 Polio Vac cine will be administered. Clinics will be at Nebraska City Memorial Building and Second Avenue School from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CALENDAR Thursday, July 19 Gleaners Circle of the Meth odist Church will meet Thurs day, July 19 at 8 p.m. There will be a silent auction. Gregg Relatives Have Reunion Mrs. Roy Gregg of Platts mouth joined her children and other relatives for a picnic re union on Sunday at the Laurence Gregg's of Nehawka. Six of her nine children were present. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Everet Niehart, of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gregg, Tom, Linda and Barbara, Platts mouth; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Gregg, Pat, Mike and Julie, Hamburg, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Gregg, Wayne, Richard and S h e r r i, Nehawka; Jim Gregg, Plattsmouth, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Gregg and Larry. Those unable to attend were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stevens and Connie, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderson, Steve and Debbie of Hayward, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gregg and Kelli of Omaha. Also Dresent was Mrs. Essie Younkers, Union, a good friend of the family. Judge Performs 100th Wedding A wedding ceremony was per formed at the home of Judge James H. Graves July 14, unit ing Sammie Ray Bates and Mary Ann Snedra of Omaha. Witnesses to the ceremony were John N. Nichail and Bette Nichail of Plattsmouth. The wedding was the 100th ceremony performed by Judge Graves since taking office in 1952. Cass County Picnic A Cass County, Nebraska an nual picnic will be held Aug. 5 in the pavilion at the Engle wood, Colorado City Park. The pavilion has been reserved for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Former Cass County residents are all invited to attend, bring lunch and eating utensils. A cold drink will be served. Co-chairman for the event, are Frances and Jim Allbeje, 3731 S. Acoma, Englewood, Colo., Mildred and Chuck Walden, 6020 W. 61st Ave., Arvada, Colo. Weeping Wafer Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kirchhoff and family of near Lincoln were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kirchhoff. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Lorensen and Richard were guests for a picnic dinner on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Walters and son of Saint Joseph, Missouri. Margaret Lorensen returned home with them after visiting for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Gayle Lorensen and family of Humboldt were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Lorensen and family. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kirchhoff attended the semi-annual meet ing of the First Lutheran Church on Sunday evening at the Parish Hall. Dr. and Mrs. John Woodward, Emily and John and Mrs. Ben Olive attended an Educational Physicology Department of the University of Nebraska picnic at the Peter Pan Park in Lincoln Tuesday. Dr. Woodward teaches in this department. Mr. and Mrs. Harlon Stock were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Harvey and family of Plattsmouth. Mrs. Gary Van Horn and Cindy and Mrs. Ted Cooper and children were shopping in Om aha on Saturday. The Van Horn girls stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Oren Derby and family of Springfield. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Christensen were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Prall. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Luben were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Burger and children. Mrs. Ella Cook and Mrs. Edna Philpot visited on Thursday aft ernoon with Mrs. Beulah Peter sen at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Murdoch and their guest, Mrs. Maude Philpot. Mrs. Peter sen has been ill the past week. Den 4 of the Cub Scouts met on Thursday morning at the home of Mrs. Harold Bruns. Mrs. Raymond Freeman is the assistant den mother for the summer. They were assisted by Dallas Wade, den chief. The boys are still working on the physical fitness program. Miss Windham Visits in City A houseguest of Mrs. Alice Perry and Miss Barbara Gering is MLss Jennie Windham of Chicago, 111. The visitor is a cou sin of Mrs. Perry. Miss Windham is a member of a pioneer family of plattsmouth. Her grandfather, the late R. B. Windham lived here and was a prominent attorney and a Ne braska Senator. Her grandmoth er, the late Mrs. Jennie Patter son Windham was one of a group who organized Chapter F I'EO. Miss Windham arrived Tues day, and will leave Friday. St. Paul's Circles Have Combined Meeting Tuesday Circle three of St. Paul's Evan gelical and Reformed Church met jointly with Circle two at the Church Parlors Tuesday at 8 p.m. A New Era in World Missions was the topic for devotions pre sented by Mrs. Edgar Meisinger and Mrs. Fred Kaffenberger Jr. This topic wa.s also presented as a Television Preview of World Missions. Circle three will be hostesses for the Coffee Social July 26 with the following hostesses: Miss Elizabeth Hirz. Mrs. George Kaf fenberger, Mrs. Joe Loper, Mrs. Earl Marler, Mrs. Edgar Meis inger, Mrs. Eldon Meisinger and Mrs. J. E. Meisinger. Next meeting will be a cov ered dish supper at the church parlors Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. for the families. Meeting was closed by all re peating the Lord's Prayer. Laura Meisinger received the door prize. Games were played and prizes awarded the winners. There were 15 members and three visitors present. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. John Schutz, Mrs. Mable Engelkemier and Mrs. Joe Loper. Circle One Meets At St. Paul's Circle One of St. Paul's E and R Church met at the church parlors for their 1:30 p.m. luncheon and meeting. Hostesses were Mrs. P. A. Mei singer, Mrs. Anna Meisinger and Mrs. Ella Halmes. There were 22 members present. Mrs. Otto Lutz drew the door prize, Mrs. P. A- Meisinger gave the devotional with Mrs. Carl Kroeger reading the scripture verses. Meeting was opened by the chairman Mrs. Richard Wohl farth. Aug. 21, at 12:30 p.m. the Circle will have a picnic dinner, each to bring a covered dish, at the church parlors, no hostesses. Meeting closed by all repeat ing the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Wohlfarth and Mrs. Enno Ah rens had the lesson on mission ary education, it was a TV Tour Around the World. Lewiston Club At Comer Home The Lewiston Social Club met at the home of Minnie Comer with Jessie Hester as co-hostess. Meeting opened by giving the Flag Salute. Clara Campbell gave the devotions. Birthday song was sung for members and the meeting clos ed with The Lord's Prayer. Seven visitors and 14 mem bers were present. The hostess served lunch. Next meeting will be at th home of Beulah Albin with Min nie Schiber as hostess. George Martin Is Home From Hospital George Martin of Union un derwent surgery Friday at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha. He is home now, Mr. and Mrs. Martin's daugh ter, Mrs. Louis Crunk and fam ily, and Mrs. Fred Gaugeon and daughter Rose of Ogden, Kans. were houseguests of the Mar tins, returning to their homes Monday. Mrs. Crunk, a nurse, came to be with her father when he had surgery. Son Mr. and Mrs. George G. Mc Graw are parents of a son, Gailen Eugene, weighing 5 pounds and 7 ounces at Den nison, Iowa. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ahart Koulmann, Dunlap, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. George L. McGraw, Platts mouth. Among all the world's people, only the Fore in Australian New Guinea suffer from kuru, a mys terious disease known as "the laughing death." The malady, which claims about 150 victims a year, causes muscular trem ors. It may be hereditary, trans mitted by a virus. KEEP IN Mr. and Mrs. Donald Syverson and family returned home from a week's vacation in Minnesota. Barbara Krlngs is visiting in St. Paul, Minn, for a week with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. White. She will fly home at the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. White were last weekend visitors in Plattsmouth at the Gene Krings home. She is a sis ter of Mr. Krings. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hild were hosts at supper Wednesday eve ning honoring Mrs. Henry Hild on tier birthday. Guests were the honoree and Mr. Hild, Grace Livingston, Mr. and Mrs. New ton Sullivan and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lancaster. Beverly Barkhurst of Ne hawka is spending this week with her aunt, Mrs. Edith Thiele. Mrs. Walter Fulton underwent major surgery at St. Joseph Hos pital in Omaha Friday. She is in room 275. and hopes to be home in a few days. 'Babysitters' Have Annual Luncheon The annual 4-H Luncheon of the Nehawka Babysitters was held at the home of Evelyn Wolph at Nehawka July 17. Honored guests were Mrs. Kay Leiding, County Home Extension Agent, and the members of the Club Week Awards Committee. Other guests included mothers, relatives, and friends. Mary Lindsey announced the program which followed the luncheon. Peggy Kearney led the Amer ican Flag Salute and Margie Miller led the 4-H Pledge. Julie Mitchell played a piano solo. The poem "Just FiftyYears Ago" was given by Bernice Gar rett. Cheryl Pollard read the poem "Summer Picnic". Various reports were given by the members. Jackie Dodson re ported on FHA Officers Work shop at Lincoln; 4-H Club Week was described by Mary Lindsey, Jackie Dodson gave a report on 1962 Cornhusker Girls State; Hazel Miller told about her ex periences at 4-H Camp; Jackie Dodson told about National FHA Convention held at Salt Lake City, Utah. Mickey Bushnell Jr. went to Lincoln to spend several davs with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Glocker. Mrs. Hildur Lundberg was 88 years old Saturday. Her after noon guests were Mrs Harold Dodson, Mrs. Leroy Johnson. Keith and Kerry. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Huffman and family of Glenwood, Iowa were guests Sunday of the De wey Jones family. Oliver Bogenrief of Omaha visited Sunday at the Gilbert Kime home. Mr. Kime shows improvement following a recent heart attack. Mr. August Lahm and Donald of Lincoln were dinner guests Sunday at the Delton Lahm home. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lindsev and Mary visited Sunday at the Ralph Lindsey and Mrs. Roy Wiles home near Avoca. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dodson were supper guests Friday of the Leroy Johnson family. Jackie Dodson returned home Saturday from a week stay in Salt Lake City, where she was a delegate to the national fu ture Homemakers of America convention. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Balfour of Ontario, Calif, visited Mrs. Amelia Balfour Wednesday. Kelly Thome took Mrs. Emma Rutledge to St. Mary's hospital by Lett ambulance Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Milandus and family from Yakima, Wash., called on Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gardner Friday and stayed the weekend. Mrs. Milandus is a sis ter of Mr. Gardner. Saturday visitors at the Gardner home were Mr, and Mrs. John Marlow of Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. Mae Blunt has taken residency at Rest Haven Nurs ing Home In Weeping Water. Mrs. Dean Morrison and chil dren Laura Jean and Thomas Dean of Watertown, Conn., ar rived here Saturday for a month visit with her mother, Mrs. V. W. Perry. Mr. Morrison will join the family here at a later date, to return his wife and children home. Miss Loris B. Long, local real tors, has announced the comple tion of the .sale of the Anna Har ris home at 932 Cass St., to Mr. and Mrs. J. Harold Garrett of Plattsmouth. Mrs. Henry F. Lutz and son Henry are back from a trijD to Tacoma, Wash., to visit Earl Hyde, nephew of Mrs. Lutz. They also visited the World's Fair at Seattle and on the way home stopped at Brigham City, Utah, to visit her niece, Mark and Frances Brightenburg. They re ported seeing some lovely sights along the west coast and that the weather was nice, until they ran into a rain storm at Sidney, Neb., on the return trip. Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne White head and son Gerry of Wilming ton, Del., arrived here Thursday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Feldhousen. Mr. Whitehead returned to Wilming ton at the weekend while Mrs. Whitehead, the former Kathleen Feldhousen, and son will remain here for a longer visit. Ben Speck and sons Marion, Hillard, John, Jay and grand son Johnny Allen Speck enjoy ed the Kansas City-New York Ball Game at Kansas City Sun day. The Nehawka extension club enjoyed a picnic supper at Steinhart Park in Nebraska City Sunday. Seventy attended the Holy Trinity parish picnic Sunday noon at the F. O. Sand home. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Hansqn and Steve spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Her bert Kuntz of York and visit ed with the Louie Kuntz fam ily of Bartlesville, Okla., who stopped at York on their way home from Colorado. Kim and Kay Snyder, daugh ters of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Snyder, observed their birthdays Sun day. Their dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Auer of Ne braska City. Avocans from Europe Seek Citizenship AVOCA (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kover, Avoca, said ; recently they like the United States and want to become citi zens. They are from Austria and Hungary. ; The couple has three sons ; Mike. 17; Joe Jr., 12, and Daniel, ! 6. Kover is a carpenter. The Kovers and Mike came to I the U. S. in 1950 and Wednesday went to Nebraska City to be fingerprinted to apply for citi-j zenship. I Kover worked for the U. S. j Air Force in Austria and could i speak English when they came to this country. Mrs. Kover worked as a censor in Austria for the U. S. She speaks Yugoslav ian, German, Austrian, Greek and Russian. Both have brothers and sisters living in Europe. The Kovers are also applying for citizenship for Mike. If the parents become citizens, the children born here won't need to be naturalized. The couple says the first prob lem they encountered on arrival here was proper spelling and pronunciation of the name "Kover." At the time, Mrs. Kover spoke no English. The name was changed to "Koever" and then back to "Kover." Mike is a 1962 graduate of Avoca High School.
