Christenson Willard Christenson Receives Army Captain Commission Willard M. Christen.ion, 26, was commissioned a Captain in the Army recently in Berlin, Germany. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Christenson, Platts mouth. . Capt. Christenson Is a 1953 graduate of Plattsmouth High School and received an appoint ment to West Point Military Academy. Christenson was assigned to the 101st (Screaming Eagle) Division at Fort Campbell, Ky., where he trained as a paratroop, ranger and a qualified ski in structor. On completion of training at Fort Campbell, Lt. Christenson was assigned to Berlin and pro moted to First Lieutenant. He served as aide in the office of the Commanding General, un der Commander Hartel of the Berlin Command. Capt. Christenson is married to the former Phyllis Roll of Panama City, Fla., daughter ot Col. and Mrs. Phillip Roll. His three-year assignment in Berlin Is to end in July, 1963. Housekeepers Union AVOCA (Special) Housekeep ers Union Extension Club met Thursday with Mrs. Elmer Hall strom. Roll call was "Plans for Decorating My Home." Mrs. Kenneth Wessel, presi dent, opened the meeting. Mrs. Maynard Bruns and Mrs. Dena Ruge gave the lesson, "Select ing Paint." There was a report on the polio event. The Club is placing a book, a biography of Mollie Dorsey Sam ford, 1857-66, by Stanley Vestal, as a memorial to Mrs. John Buckholz, club president at the time of her death in 1960. Heart Fund Appeal GREENWOOD (Special) The Heart Fund Chairman, Mrs. Mildred Comstock for this year, urges everyone to contribute to the drive as the "More Will Live The More You Give." Great strides are being made to con quer the nations number one cause of death. The Heart Association at the national state and county levels are able to conduct a program of ; Research, Education and Com- munity Service. This opportun j ity to contribute may benefit j you personally in the years to ! come, Mrs. Mildred Comstock, chairman, said. The Rev. C. M. Foust, pastor ol the church gave the invoca tion, then read an articl? from the Ashland Gazette of Febr uary, 1912, announcing the mar riage of Frankie Ellen Laughlin and Ray Wilson Keller on Febr uary 13, 1912. The minister who performed the ceremony was Reverand Bert Wiljon, at the home of the brides parents Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Laughlin in the South Ashlrnd community. Six people, guests at th? wed ding 50 years ago attended the anniversary celebration. They were Mr. and Mrs. George Born man, Mr. Louis Laughlin, Mrj. Walter Laughlin and her two sons Vernon and Grafton Laughlin. Mrs. Bruce Sowards prepared the prog: am and was Mistress of Ceremonies. Mr. Darold Miller accompani ed by Sherry Dean sang "Side by Side", and 'Too Old to Cut the Mustard Any More." Joan Sellin played two piano solos, "May Night" by Ward and "Sch erzo" by Beethoven. Fiddle music by Roy Keller accompanied by Mrs. Keller. "Golden Slippers," "Red Wing," and "The Girl 1 left Behind Me." Mrs. J. H. Campbell, accomp anied by Mrs. Gerald Kitrell, sang "Smilin' Thru." Lloyd Ed wards, accompanied by Mrs. Gerald Kitrell, sang "Ths Golden Years." Tycha Lindquist played the marimba, accom panied by Gary Bates, "When We were Seventeen," and "Can adian Capers." Mrs. Donald Mil ler (Darlene Sowards) accom panied by Mrs. Warren Robin son, sang "Medley" and ''I love You Tiuiy." Mrs. Keller's niece, Mrs. Por ter Sellin, wore her aunt's lawnsdown, silk and wool wed ding gown and her satin wed ding slippers. Mr. and Mrs. Keller have lived In the South Ashland vicinity in the same house to which the bridegroom took his b.ide 50 years ago. Mrs. Harlan. LeConte (Elsie Coleman) of Los Angeles, Cali fornia; Mrs. Oscar Tindall, (Genevieve Coleman) of Love land, Colorado; and Mrs. Char les Zink (Joanna Coleman) of Sioux City, Iowa planned and arranged the serving tables. Mr3. Oscar Laughlin, Mrs. George Bornman, Mrs. Harold Richards, Mrs. Bert Roger, Mrs. E. C. Ehrenhardt, Mrs. Walter Laughlin, Mrs. Orie Sowards, and Mr.s. Dewey Moore were table hostesses. Mri. Lyle Bailry aid Mrs. Vernon Dean were in charge of the gift table. Mrs. Wayne Laughlin a id Mrs. Darold Mil iar took care of the guest book. The Kellers wedding picture and several of their weddir.g gifts were dispayed on this table. Mrs. Al Preuss was chairman of the committee that served refreshments, she was assisted bv Mrs. Dale Ru.ig, Mrs. Paul Crabtree, Miss Ramona Billings Mrs. Oscar Jeigenbein, Mrs George Graueiholz and Mrs Harry Krahmer. Besides many Nebraska guests, there were some from Iowa, Colorado and California. ENGAGED Mr. and Mrs. John Mass of Papillion an nounce the engagement and ap proaching marriage of their daughter Roseann Marie to Ro bert Hartman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hartman of South Omaha. Mr. Hartman is em ployed at the Omaha Stock Yards and Miss Mass is a comp tometer operator at Union Paci fic Railroad. An Aug. IS wedding is planned. Miss Mass is a granddaughter of Wm. Spangler of Plattsmouth. Federated Woman's Club of Greenwood At Mrs. Woitzel's GREENWOOD (Special) The Greenwood Federated Woman's Club met at the country home of Mrs. Walter Woitzel with Mrs Mildred Comstock assisting host ess. Fifteen members and three guests were present. The meeting was opened by all repeating the Pledge of Allegi ance to the Flag In keeping with the day of Lincoln's Birthday. The group voted 100 to sup port all Federated projects with a check to same. The projects are as follows: 1. International Student Fund. 2. Educational Student Loans Fund. 3. All-State Music Scholarship. 4. Penny Art. 5. Care, Midwifery Kits to Chili and Columbia. 6. Radio Free Europe. Notice" was received Mrs. M R. Hansen and Mrs. Elgin Knud- sen will represent the Happy Homemakers Extension Club on a 4-H community committee sponsored by the Woman's Club. Music and Art Chairman, Mrs. Harold Wright, reported the Music and Art Contests, the Hallmark Art Contest and the Vogue Sewing Contests had made available to the Greenwood-Ashland High School Stu dents. The Greenwood Grade School showed definite interest In the Art Contest sponsored by the Woman's Club. Local judging tc be -completed before the NFWC district' 1 contest March 26(h. Three qualified judges will be named to judge the local contest. Library Chairman, Mrs. Walter Marolf presented the club with the late book, "A Na tion of Sheep" by John Lederer. Vogue Sewing Contest Chair man, Mrs. Clara Pershing an nounced 6 members plan to enter the Vogue Sewing Contest. Youth Traffic Safety Chair man, Mrs. John Lambert re ported a new invention for teach ing drivers education which eliminates the expense of buying a lata model car each year. Mrs. Lambert was appointed to reply to a young doctor's in quiry , about coming to Green wood. The program chairman con ducted an Inspirational program with all members contributing "Food For Thought". Mrs. Frank Hurlbut, Publicity Chairman. Notice To Taxpayers! The assessor's office in the Court House will be open Monday evening, February 26th until 8:30 p.m. Kathleen Kirchoff Weds Thomas Green WEEPING WATER (Special) Mr. and Mrs. George Kirch hoff announce the marriage of their daughter, Kathleen, to Thomas H. Green of Lincoln, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Green. The double ring ceremony was performed in the presence of the immediate family at the Thomas W. Green home. Baskets of gladioli decorated the home for the wedding. The couple's attendants were Diane Bornemeier of Elmwood and Charles Green of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Green are hnth graduates of the Elmwood High School and are presently em ployed in Lincoln. They live at 386 South 37th St. Anniversary Club Marks 25th Year AVOCA (Special) The Anni versary Club met at. thP iate Thursday evening for a 25th an niversary dinner. Mrs. Ray Norris gave a re sume of the 25 years. Present were Mrs. Ella Wulf, Mrs. Emma Rawalt, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Norris, Mr. and Mrs. Max S t r a u b e, Miss Phylis Straube, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wessel, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Wil son, Jim Cullen, Miss Petronella Cullen, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hennings, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hallstrom, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zaiser. There have been 4 deaths in the group. After dinner they retired to the Elmer Hallstrom home for cards. Jonathan Cass Chapter Meets At Tef ft Home NEHAWKA (Special) - ihe postponed Januury program and the February program of the Jonathan Cass Chapter of the DAR were presented Friday aft ernoon at the home of Mrs. Lois Tefft of Avoca. Mrs. Tefft spoke of the His tory of American Glassware, and had many fine pieces of old glassware, family heirlooms, on display. Mrs. Elmer Hallstrom presented a projram on Ocov?,r Washington's Faith. Esther Tefft, regent, presided. Devotions were led by Mrs. J. J. Pollard of Nehawka. Miss Tefft and Mrs. L. R Wiseman are the delegates to the state convention in March at Falls City. Alternates arei Mrs. Dwight Cook of Nehawka and Mrs. Emily Olive of Weep ing Water. Evelyn Wolph and Mrs. J. J. Pollard of Nehawka attended the meeting. Next meeting is with Mrs. R. B Stone rind Mrs. Nell rierre of Nehawka.
