THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE TWO Monday, January 8, 1962 Installation Ceremonies Are Eagles Auxiliary installation ceremonies was on the agenda at the first meeting of the new year of the Eagles Auxiliary held Thursday night at the Eagles Hall. Madam President Hazel La hoda conducted the business session to a large group of the membership in attendance. Roll call was answered with all of ficers present but one. Past presidents presided at the installation cere monies, when Vera Solomon was install ed as trustee, participating was Dorothy Janacek as installing president, and Honey Cole as conductor. Hazel Calloway of Omaha was initiated by the officers of the auxiliary in a special ceremony due to her plans for a trip to California. In the reading of communica tions belated Christmas greet ings were read from several auxiliaries in the state. The auxiliary will assist the March of Dimes program by sending letters to the business section of the city. Dorothy Janacek and Honey Cole volun teered to fullfill this assign ment. In the reports of commit tees, Dorothy Hobbs of the sick committee reported two mem bers Gladys Kemp, and Berna dine Dietl were hospitalized, and gifts had been sent to each. Honey Cole and Iola Fuller announced that gifts had been purchased and sent to a boy in Cass County who is a muscular dystrophy patient, and is a pro togee of the Eagles Auxiliary. Dorothy Janacek trustee, re ported on the kitchen equip ment purchased recently. Sop hia Wolever, publicity chairman announced that plans are form ing for the issuing of the aerie and auxiliary bulletin that is to be published and sent to all aerie and auxiliary members to I inform' them of the activities! and social events that are forth coming. Dorthy Janacek and! Anna Schubeck are members of this committee to serve with a committee of the aerie group. On the membership report, Irene Smith, chairman, urged the group to contact eligible wo men for membership in the aux iliary. Dorothy Janacek, on the de linquency committee, reported delinquents contacted. Honey Cole on the entertainment as signment thanked all who assis ed with the Christmas party, and announced that a cake walk would be held at the next meeting following the "business session, with proceeds to be used for welfare work of the aux iliary. Suggestions for the good of the order was held, with the adopting of the recommenda tion of Dolores Frazer with vol unteers to call all members to attend the next meeting. Com mittee assigned voluntarily for this project are Dolores Frazer, Charlotte O'Donnell, Donna Kern, Dorothy Janacek, Honey Cole and Fern Eledge with El vira Lahoda and Helen Morgen to call members in Omaha. The group accepted the ex cuse of Donna Kern for her ab sence at two regular meetings. Dorothy Janacek was awardel the five dollar attendance prh, and Irene Smith won a years dues in the auxiliary. Meeting adjourned following the reports of Irene Smith secretary and Dorothy Janacek trustee. Social hour was held in the lounge room with lunch served and visiting by the aerie and auxiliary members. The next regular meeting will be held Jan. 18. Immanuel Dorcas EAGLE (Special) The Im manuel Lutheran Dorcas Society members, held their regular meeting Jan. 3 at the church with Mrs. Rudolph Wulf, the hostess. The meeting was opened with a hymn sung by the group. Pastor Prance read Scripture and led in prayer. The members answered roll call, with a verse on "The Name of Jesus". The Lesson Topic "Love reaching into all the World," was led by Mrs. George Wulf. The Mission Theme, was given by Mrs. Tena Butt, reporting in teresting remarks about a wom an missionary taken from "The Lutheran Witness." Rev. Prange read a letter from The Society's adopted Missionary personnel, Rev. Lehenbauer and family in Brazil. The February meeting will be the 7th, with Mrs. Ivan Althouse, the Topic Leader, and Mrs. Mar tin Schildt the hostess. Mrs. Elda Schroder, secretary. O KI ZU The O Ki Zu Camp Fire group met Thursday at Mrs. Haith's. These officers were elected: president, Donna Grove; vice president, C h e r yl Schneider; secretary, Kathy McLeod; treas urer, Kay Haith; phone girl, Carla Hobbs; song girl, Cindy Albrecht; scribe, Debbie Lind quist. Presiding at the business ses sion was the president Sophia Wolever. Initiation ceremonies will be held at the meeting in February, with Rowena Kemp, Vivian Muehe, Gladys Kemp and Veltha Poggemeyer as the initiating team. Plans were completed to make tray favors for Valentine day to be sent to the Veterans hos pital in Omaha. Mints and candy will also be sent with the tray favors. Election of officers will be held in February. The fiscal year dues for the Atoms are in January, and are now payable. Members and officers are to wear the white uniforms recent ly adopted at the Council of ad ministration meeting held re cently in Washington, D.C. Red accessories are to be worn with the uniform. The official cap has not been adopted as yet. The by-laws have been acted upon and are now in the hands of the Supreme M.O.E. for their ap proval. Reports of committees were given, with Pearl Myers report ing on membership, Edith Jacob son announced that gifts had been purchased for two members who had been ill. Norma Wilson hospital chair man reported on the trip to the hospital, that was held in Dec ember. The Atoms assisted the Cooties, with a bingo party at the Veterans hospital in Omaha. Plans are also forming for a wheel chair to be purchased through a project being con ducted with the Atoms and Cooties assigned in fulfilling this assignment. Vivian Muehe, treasurer re ported the 1962 dues cards had been ordered, and members would be presented their card at the next meeting. The Atom Auxiliary recently organized is under the control of . the Military Order of the Cootie, and through them the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. The M.O.E. held their meeting with Rudy Stoll commander presiding, in the lounge room of the club. Following the meetings a social hour was held with the auxiliary serving lunch. . Alvo WSCS ALVO (Special) The Wom an's Society of Christian Service met Jan. 3 at the Church with 12 members present. Mrs. Ray Schweitzer had the lesson on ! "Alcoholism." Mrs. Boyd Ed : wards was pianist. Mrs. Marion I Kellogg was in charge of the I business meeting. I A piece of luggage' had been purchased by the society as a ' Christmas present to Miss Kie, a foreign student at Wesleyan. A soup supper will be given in the near future. Foppe of Lincoln Miss Knaup of Weds Bernard White poinsettias decorated the altar of Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln for the Sunday,- Dec. 31, 1961 wedding of Roberta Gene Knaup, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Knaup of Weeping Water, and Bernard C. Poppe, son of Mrs. Rudolph Poppe and the late Mr. Poppe of Chester. The service was solemnized at 4 p.m. in the afternoon by Rev. W. W. Koenig. The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose for her Wedding a gown of white silk peau de soie. It featured a scoop neckline, long bridal sleeves, and an empire waistline. An obi sash centered with a full blown rose above the chapel train gave back interest to the gown. Shower Honors Mrs. Jeanine Rhea Sunday afternoon at Bellevue, a pink and blue shower was held at the home of Mrs. R. W. Benoit honoring Mrs. Jeanine Rhea of Nebraska City. Games were played and prizes given alter which the honored guest opened her many lovely gifts assisted by her mother, Mrs. Mildred Newton. A lunch was served by the hostesses Mrs. Ben Long, Mrs. Ernie Newton, Mrs. Glenn Rut ledge and Mrs. Paul Long. Guests attended from Lincoln, Nebraska City, Bellevue, Omaha, Nehawka and Platt.-mouth. The bridesmaids were frocked in crimson red velveteen sheath dresses and wore white fur hats. They carried white fur muffs decorated with crimson red car nations and holly. Shirley Chab or wilber, Nebr. was maid-of-honor. and Mrs. Vernon Ander son of Omaha, was bridesmat ron. Bridemaids were Lois Pop pe, Chester, sister of the groom, Betty James of Nebraska Oity, ana Susan Stanley of Lincoln. Harold Poppe, Chester, served nis brother as best man. and seating the guests were Rodney Knaup, Falls City, brother of the bride, Kenneth Kleen, Te kamah; James Schueth, Lincoln and Gary Bulk, Lincoln. Anna Anville, Talmaee. was the organist and Evelyn Kafer, jLincoin, was the soloist. Candle lighters were Jean Marie Alf el- Deck, Wilber, and Judy Hoeman, Omaha. A reception followed the cere mony in the church basement. Miss Patricia Bogar, Lincoln, was in charge of the guest book. The wedding cake was cut by Mrs. R. P. Hobson, Weeping Water, and Mrs. Keith Bau- man, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mrs. Jack Klssler. Lincoln. poured punch, and Virginia weicn, Keel Lodge, Mont., pour ed coifee. Maribelle Elliott, Weeping water, played the piano for the reception. Diana Root of Eagle, cousin ot the bride, was in charge of gifts. The mother of the bride wore a green silk sheath dress with DiacK accessories, and the mo ther of the groom wore a beige lace dress with dark ereen ac cessories. They both wore white phaleanopsis orchid corsaees. Mr. and Mrs. Poppe will make their home at 5110 Cleveland Avenue, in Lincoln after a wed ding trip. The bride will be a February graduate of the University of Nebraska, where she is a mem ber of Delta Delta Delta soror ity, and Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Chi Theta honoraries. The bridegroom is a graduate of the University of Nebraska where he was a member of Del ta Sigma Pi. Mrs. Rudolph Poppe of Ches ter and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knaup of Weeping Water enter tained the Knaun-Ponue wed ding party following rehearsal in Lincoln. They entertained twenty five guests. Mrs. P. A. Hild Honored On Her 84th Birthday A group of relatives gathered I at the home of Mrs. P. A. Hild in the evening of Jan. 4 for her 84th birthday. The evening was spent in vis iting and playing cards and a de licious lunch .was served. Attending the party were Leonard Bobenmoyer, Cory Col lins, Bill Hawkins, Kenneth Mays, Van Howard Nay, Randall Oliphant, Kit Sims, Tony Tru man, Randy Wolf and Ted Work man. Games were played and prizes went to Billy Hawkins, Randy Wolf, Randall Oliphant and Cory Collins. The table was decorated with a snowman cake and New Years tree cake In the center of the table.
