During the business meeting election of officers was held: president, Velaine Vogt; vice president, Mary Catherine Knosp; secretary, Debra Scheer; president, Cynthia Hansen; song leader, Joyce Althouse. Presiding over the WSCS meet ing Dec. 8 was president Emily Gonzales. Mrs. Parsell gave de votions and Mrs. Fred Buell had the lesson on "Christmas". This group had invited the Eagle and the Alvo groups but due to the inclement weather, only a few responded. These few were ap preciated. Corsages were pinned on them. Isabell McDonald wel corned the visitors. Reports were given by Edna Fleischman, Helen Charling, LaDean Lannin, C o 1 1 s t a Clements, Blanche Kuehn, Merle Eveland, Merle E Pool and Ollie Horton reviewed "The Christmas Story". The Dec birthdays were Mrs. Grace Blessing, Opal Clements, Hazel Miller, Helen Schneider, Mary Halverson and Isabell McDonald. Hostesses were Mrs. H. Arnold, Mrs. Wm. Strabel, Mrs. Howard Miller, Mrs. Howard Pool, Mrs. Ruth Monning and Mrs. Susie Cook. Among other young men tak ing their examination to enter the services was Gary Groves who now lives in Lincoln. ' Laurie Hansen celebrated her 9th birthday last Sautrday by en tertaining 14 girl friends in the afternoon. For lunch she served yum-yums, potato chips, cake and punch. Laurie is the daugh ter of Rev. and Mrs. Hansen. Mrs. Rex Walker of Portland, Oregon visited her sister and family, the Raymond Vogt's and others. Her 2 little girls were with her. She was the former Barbara Stevens, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Stevens. " Mr. and Mrs. Millard Rhoden of Lincoln were Sunday afternoon callers at the Roy Rhoden home. They report that the road was not icy until they reached Eagle. Millard is a nephew of Roy Rhoden. Mrs. Blanche Kuehn and Alice ate quail, duck and pheasant Sunday at the Reuben Stock home. Evidently Jim and Joe have luck hunting. Helen Schnei der also was a guest. Mrs. Blanche Kuehn and Alice plan to visit Ruth's, the Schroe der's at Dekater, 111. this week and will stop at the Newton Lang's in Iowa on their way (Jo Eveland). CUvo Mrs. Wilson Howe The Alvo Woman's Society of Christian Service was invited to attend the Woman's Society of Christian Service "meeting at Elmwood, Friday afternoon. The meeting was very much enjoyed by Mrs. Marion Kellogg, Mrs. Elmer Haas and Mrs. Wilson Howe. Mr. and, Mrs. Kendall Dimmitt and daughters spent Sunday aft ernoon with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Boydston of near Ashland. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Eickerman and Eugene spent Sunday with Mr, and Mrs. Harvey Backe meyer of Elmwood. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Backemeyer of Mil- ford and Mrs. Merle Backemeyer were also present to celebrate Harvey and Jerry's birthday and the Jerry Backemever's first anniversary. Mr. Merle Backe meyer is in the Reserves and he attended Camp this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Backe meyer of Milford spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Wil son Howe, Marva and Ardith. Jennie Nickel gave a birthday dinner for her nephew, Paul Nickel of Bennett, his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Nickel and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Nickel and Keith were also present to cele brate the birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Heisel man moved about a month ago from the Skeen house (now Ebel er) to the Ella Coon house which they purchased. Weekend guests at their home were friends from Council Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. Cissna. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brinkman of Palmyra were Sunday, Dec. 8 visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Brockman, uncle of Ralph. Friday evening, supper guests at the Brockman's were Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Holscher of Cook. All went to the basket ball game which was between Cook and Elmwood. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Lenz at tended the NFO National Farm ers Organization, Thursday and Friday at Des Moines, Iowa. Mrs. Lenz cared for the children. Mrs. F. W. Robb arrived home Monday from Denver where she Spent several days. Augusta Robb is able to be in her own home again after a spell of ill ness when she was at her broth ers, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Robb.
