Obituary Mrs. Vern Mead WEEPING WATER (Special) Mrs. Vem Mead, daughter of Claiborne and Jessie Jackson, was born on February 24, 1902 at Sidney, Iowa and passed away at her home In Weeping Water, Nebraska on Monday morning, November 13, 1961 following a long illness. The family moved to Nebraska City during her childhood where she grew to womanhood, getting 'Xux .education, in the Nebraska City schools. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was married to John L. Mead of Dunbar on April 15, 1941 and since that time has resided in Weeping Water. She Is survived by her husband John; one daughter, Mrs. Russell Root; her son-in-law, Russell Root; four grandchildren, James, Judy, Suzanne, and John Rott; Chicago, Illinois; seven sisters, Mrs. Walter Baker, Middleton, Idaho; Mrs. Chester Comstock, Caldwell, Idaho; Mrs. Clarence Adolph, Payette, Idaho; Mrs. Oliver Tourville, Nebraska City, Nebraska; Mrs. Thomas South, Harlowton, Montana; Mrs. Hugh Bunnell, Lewlston, California and Mrs. Mark Crandell, Centeral City, One sister G-eraldine and her parents preceded her in. death. Funeral services were held Nov. 16 at Petersen Mortuary in Nebraska City. Rev. Hooper of Nebraska City officiated. Pallbearers were Sanford Ho man, Lloyd Behrens, Laurence Wiseman of Weeping Water; Cecil Thatcher and Richard Jackson, Sidney, Iowa; Woodrow Suprlock, Percival, Iowa. Burial was in Wyuka Cemetery. Obituary Fred Shutz AVOCA (Special) Fred Chas. Shutz, son of Albert and Mattie Shutz, was born July 18, 1912, south of Avoca. He got his educa tion at Avoca School, was bap tized and became a member of the Congregational Church. He was a farmer and also worked at the Quarries at Weep ing Water until he became ill more than a year ago. He then made his home at Elmwood. He died at Elmwood Nov. 14. Funeral services were held at Hobson-Dorr Funeral Home at Weeping Water Thursday, Rev. J. E. Aeschbacher officiating. Mrs. Roy Ruhge sang, accompa nied by Mrs. Henry Maseman. Pallbearers, all relatives, were Ocar Brandt, Willard Ropers, Fredrick Shutz, Calvin Shutz, James Shutz and Robert High Jr. He Is survived by a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Schuman, El Cajon, Calif.; two brothers, Joyce of Avoca, and Norman of Inland. Burial was In Avoca cemetery. His brother died in January, 1901, and his mother in 1950.
