Miss Morris and Susan Petereit, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Petereit are pledges of the Phi Mu Soror ity at Wesleyan. Both are. freshman. ALBERT ULTENKAMP AND JIM HURST, freshmen at Peru State teachers College, provided Plaltsmouth's contribution to the annual Variety Show last week. Sponsored by J. D. Levitt, associate professor of English and speech, the show included musical, dance and comedy numbers. The Variety Show climaxed the first full week of classes for the 94th academic year at Peru State. Round-up and Horse Show Here Well, Attended The Cass County Horse Show Association held its Husker Ilawkeye Round Up Day and Horse Show Sunday at its arena south of Platt.smouth. There' were 123 head of horses participating. Nine clubs r.'.tending were Omaha Saddle Club, Stockyards Saddle Club and Diamond C, all from Omaha; Rough Riders and Pathfinders, Fremont; Rebel Riders, Waterloo; Nebraska City Saddle Club; Papllllon Saddle Club; Buffalo Busters, Spring field and the Cass County Saddle Club. Out-of-town riders for the horse show also came from Gleh wood, Shenandoah and Council Bluffs, Iowa. The all-around trophy went to the Stockyard Saddle Club for most points. The trophy was sponsored by the Consumer Pub: lie Power of Plattsmouth. Attendance was good. It tells me that the best way that I have now to serve the people and the country is to resipi." Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Covert re ceived word today of the severe illness of their son, TSgt. Elburn A. Covert, who is stationed In Germany with the Air Force. Elburn has been In the service 14 years. He is suffering from gastro-intestlonal bleeding, and is hospitalized. His address Is T-Sgt. Elburn A. Covert, AF 171 79477, APO 633, New York, N.Y. His wife, Marge and dau ghter Luella live at Dayton, Ohio. Word here received by his parents said his recovery was questionable. Ed Kellison who was taken to the Methodist Hospital on Labor Day is slowly Improving from a heart attack. He would be happy to hear from his friends. He Is in room 363. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Markham arrived Wednesday from Char leston, Ind.. for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Markham and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs Fred Vincent. Mr. and Mrs Frank Richardson of Grand Island will spend the weekend at the Fred Vincent home here. He is a brother of Mrs. Vincent Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vincent are celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary today (Thursday). It is also Mr. Vincent's 70th birthday. Richard Cotner, former Platts mouth resident, Is a patient In the Veterans Hospital In Pasa dena, Texas. He is to have bone surgery on his hand. Phil Rihn returned home Tuesday afternoon from the Mp- thodist Hospital In Omaha w n e r e ne underwent surgery, and was a patient for nine days. D. S. Sumner of Redlands, Cal ifornia arrived Wednesday for a visit here with former Platts mouth friends, and relatives in Cass County. He plans to take in the KKK, and then further his trip by going to his native state, Kentucky, and onto Tenn essee. Mr. Sumner for many years was the Union Pacific Depot Agent here. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Knorr re turned home Monday after a vacation of fishing and relaxing at their summer cottage on Sandas Beach, Minn. Also re turning home form the same resort area, and closing their cottage for the winter months were Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Furse. Lester Gaylord is home now after a three weeks stay at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha with a heart condition. They went sightsee ing at Gavins Point and in South Dakota. Mrs. Berglund is the former Marie Speck of this city and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Speck. Attending the annual Red Cross dinner and meeting at the Louisville Missile Base Friday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Bruns, Mr. and Mrs. Clar ence Akeson and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Payton. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bruns, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Akeson were at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henning Johnson near Ne hawka on Saturday night, help ing the Johnson's celebrate their 36th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Inez Larson and Mrs Melvin Gerdes of Louisville left Omaha Wednesday night by jet plane for Los Angeles where they were called by the death of a relative, Mrs. Ervin Schlack. Minniear Retires From BRE Shops Chester J. Minniear retired Sept. 15 after 32 years of ser vice as a car man. at the BRE Shops. Mr. Minniear came to the Plattsmouth area from Indiana in 1923, he farmed for awhile prior to employment at the Shops. Mr. and Mrs. Minniear have one son, Harley, who graduated from the Plattsmouth Schools, as did his wife, the former Jac queline Grassman, also of Plattsmouth. The Harley Minniears have three children; Pam is in nurses training at the Immanuel Hos pital in Omaha, Ed, 13 and Kim, 6, are at home in Central City, where the family makes their home. Mr. Minniear and his wife Til lie will continue to make their home in Plattsmouth. She is a part time employe of Lugsch Cleaners, doing altering. They are members of the Christian Church. Future plans of the couple are to keep busy with their friends and family.
