Rex Young (Continued from Page One) his rules charging the same rate for sales, he admits to about a dozen exceptions when he re funded part or all of the fee "because the people needed the money." One time before a calf sale he saw four boys standing with their father. One of the boys was crying. Rex learned the boys belonged to a calf club but one boy's calf had died. The father had warned his son that the calves would go higher than he could afford. Halfway through the auction Rex suddenly stopped and cried, "sold," pointing to the man and boys seated nearby. The man at once protested that he hadn't bid but Rex took $40 from his pocket and paid the clerk. Turning, he pointed to the boy whose calf died. "The calf goes to that boy," he said. A Christmas card still comes to the Young home from that boy. Of his boyhood Rex says, "In ) those days kids entertained themselves. Now they'll pay $1.00 or $1.50 to see just the kind of fool stunts we did then." Horeback riding was a favor ite past time: One time a sad dle slipped under the horse's belly and he ran off. They found him a week later at Union. Folks in the county still re member when Rex put the sad dle on backwards for the sake of something different! Now, Rex, you didn't wan t this to sound like your obituary. Do you really think if anyone ever gets a chance to write such a thing for you that they'll tell such stories on you? EDWIN T. Edward Deerson of near Yutan served as president, Mrs. Fred Ratslaff of near Havelock as sec retary. They were elected to serve another year. The picnic is held the fourth Sunday in July at Wild Court. It will be 21 years in October, that the news came the govern ment was taking over that area to make a bomb loading plant. The area included more than 17,500 acres and caused 200 fam ilies to hunt new homes, that late in the season. At that time of year, farms for rent were already rented. Farms for sale had also been rented and many of those buying could not get possession. The families affected by the taking of their homes had to move. Some yet that autumn and many during the winter. By early spring, workers were swarming all over the area, especially; where the load lines are now' located. It was a sad time for all resi dents. Older people were forced to leave. They had spent almost their entire lives there. The picnic brings the scattered ones together again. The day is spent in reminiscences. The first gathering was in July, 1942. Bad News (Continued from Page One) volved can obtain money for the study it probably would not begin until 1963 or 1964. His last regular session was 1953 but he was around also for the 1954 special session.
