Pat and Kim Strawn, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Strawn of Sterling, Colo., have been enjoying a several weeks stay at their grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Earl this summer. On Saturday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Valee Halvorsen of Osceola, Iowa, called at the home of his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kirchhoff. Mr. Halvorsen is the son of Mr. Geo. Halvorsen and the late Ella Hal vorsen former Eagle residents. Twelve Eagle F.F.A. boys and their sponsor Mr. James Nuttle had a swimming party followed by their regular meeting last Monday at Lincoln. " Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mona han and son John, of Palmyra visited at the home of their for mer Palmyra neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Orris Lanning and son Jerry Sunday evening. Eagle friends of the Ben Root family of Scotts Bluff, Nebr. are pleased to hear he is improv ing very well, since his several weeks hospitalization for a heart illness. His brother and her sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. John Root of Lincoln, all former Eagle resi dents visited at the Root home, recently enroute home from Cortez, Colorado, where they vis ited at the home of the John Root's son, Mr. and Mrs. Ver non Root and family, also, form erly of Eagle. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Oberle and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Oberle and family and Mr. Ru dolph Oberle of Lincoln were din ner guests at the home of the latter's son and the Messr's. Oberle parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Oberle and Judy last Sun day. All enjoyed Home-Made Ic Cream auring the day. The elder Mr. Oberle resides at the Rest Home, No. 66th St., Lincoln, and he Is quite well now, and enjoys the visits of his family, and friends. Eagle friends received word of the deatn last Thursday of Mrs. Modem Teens WEEPING WATER (Special) The Modern Teens 4-H Club met on Wednesday evening at the home of Mary Alice Wood. Mary Alice presided at the meet ing. Roll call was answered by naming a seam. Leona Nichols gave a demonstration on differ ent kinds of rolls. The next meet ing will be July 26 at the home of James Bender. Junior Woman's Club WEEPING WATER (Special) The Junior Woman's Club met on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Pat Wade for a co operative picnic supper. Mrs. Robert Stander, Mrs. Lee Wil son and Mrs. Marvin Pilfold were guests. Mrs. Art Hansen, vice president, presided at the meeting. Plans were discussed for the float to: the Cass County Fair, the decoration for the Miss Weeping Water Contest and Dance and a report was given on the July 4 stand. Cake and coffee were served. There will be no meeting In August. Susan Peterson, 72, of Nebraska City, Nebr., mother of Mr. Clar ence (Barrel) Peterson, Lincoln, formerly of Eagle. Mrs. Peter son was a sister of Mrs. Amy Smith of Lincoln, also a former Eagle resident and property owner at Eagle. Funeral serv ices were held Saturday p.m. at the Gude Mortuary Chapel at Nebraska City and burial at Eagle cemetery. Survivors: Sons, Dale of Austin, Texas; Clarence of Lincoln; and Vern of New York City; daughter, Miss Violet Peterson of Nebraska City; sister, Mrs. Amy Smith Lincoln. Thursday afternoon, a one car acciden occurred on Eagle to Alvo rood when a young man of Alvo accompanied by two Eagle occupants escaped , with only minor injuries, when their car overturned and rolled into ditch enroute to Alvo on last Thursday afternoon. They also visited at the home of their son, Mr and Mrs. Lowell Um land and family for a birthday gathering for the elder Mr. Um land. Miss Marilyn Habel, of Cali fornia, is enjoying a recent visit, at the home of her mother, Mrs. Verna Habel. HEWS FROM AVOCA Mrs. Henry Mr. and Mrs. Robert Noerr linger, Syracuse announce the birth of a son July 13 at Syra cuse hospital. Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Hrm Folkerts, Beat rice and Mrs. Helen Noerrlinger, Avoca. The Noerrlingers have another son and daughter. Mrs. Alvina Ludwig received word that her mother Mrs. Grage Martel had fallen and re ceived a cut face and several stitches had to be taken. Mike Koever, Maurice Lange, Danny and Steve Stohlman, Lee Dumke were fishing on Medicine Creek at Arapahoe last week. ;, Mr. and " Mrs. Melvin Bren broder and family," Omaha were Sunday callers at the Louis Ruhge home. Mrs. Ralph Krause took care of her mother 'Mrs. Linhardt during Mrs. Dena Ruge 's ab sence. ' Mr. and Mrs. Philip Maseman and Joh.i, Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maseman were Sun day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Schroder at Palmyra. A farewell tea was held for Mrs. F. Stevans Thursday. Mrs Stevans left for Michigan Friday to greet a new grandchild. She will stay there until he Is trans fered from the Missile base here to South Dakota. Mr. and Mrs. Carrold Love, Marshall and Mary Jane, Hous ton, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ruhge, Talmage called at the Clara Ruhge and Minnie Neu meister homes Wednesday. Mrs Love is the daughter of the Jack Ruhges. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bornmeir announce the birth of a son July 10 at St. Marys hospital. Grand parents here are Mr. and Mrs Lvei Wilson. They have two other sons. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Neu- meister, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Neu meister and family visited rela tives at Stockton, Kansas over the weekend. Hillman Family Reunion at Avoca AVOCA (Special) The Her man Hillmans held a family re union at the Ernest Haveman home Sunday with a picnic din ner. There were 40 present: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hillman, Otoe; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Leefers, Syracuse; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hillman, Otoe; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hillman and family, Ne braska City; Mr. and Mrs. Har old Hillman, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kastens. Otoe; Mrs. Alvln Reimers, Mrs. Leona Kasten and Barbara, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs Leonard Haveman and sons and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Haveman and family. Obituary Rosa Nutxman Ehlers AVOCA (Special) Rosa N. Ehlers died July 8 after a few hours illness at Avoca where she was visiting. She was born March 12, 1884, on a farm south of Avoca in Otoe County. She received her educa tion in the Avoca School and attended the Academy of Music at Weeping Water. She lived in this community until her marriage to John C. Ehlers June 5, 1907. They lived on a farm near Otoe until the following year when they moved northwest of Bertrand. They moved into Bertrand In 1940. ' They always had young people in their home and in 1933 took Janice and Jim Ehlers into their home where they were given parental care. In 1953 John passed away. Mrs. Ehlers was active in church and community affairs until her health failed. She is survived by her son James Ehlers of Bertrand, Mrs. Stanley (Janice) McCandless of Lincoln: 3 grandchildren: 2 sis ters, Mrs. Edith Maseman and Mrs. Dena Ruge of Avoca: one brother, Alfred Nutzman of Bertrand: and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were July 11 at Immanuel Lutheran Church under the direction of Pastor Arnold Nelson. Music was furnished by Earl High, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Ralph Holmquist. Pallbearers were Harold Mc cracken, Lewis Fagot, Laverne Dannehl, C. G. Holthus, Keith Fastenau and David High. Burial was in Highland Ceme tery at Bertrand. Maseman Mr. and Mrs. Harry Neumei- ster and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Carstens attended the Swartz fu neral at Nehawka Monday. Mrs. Rawalt entertained at a dinner at the Cornhusker for Mrs. Mickle's birthday Sunday. Guests were Mrs. Helen Noerr linger, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wilson and the honoree Mrs. Ann Mickle. - Sgt. Reckard Is Nominee for Airman Honor WEEPING WATER (Special) M-Sgt. Weaver L. Reckard, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Reck ard of Weeping Water, was nominated to compete with other nominees from their respective commands for the "Outstanding Airman" of their commands. Sergeant Reckard, who was chosen to represent Sheppard At ATC is an instructor super visor in the Jet Engine Train ing Branch of the Department of Aircraft Maintenance Train ing at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. He has been at sheppard since March 1958, having come from Manston, AFB, England. While on that overseas tour, he served at Kaufbeuren, Germany where he assisted with the technical instructor program for the Ger man Air Force. He served first as an instructor in jet engines, then was selected as instructor supervisor in July 1959. He has been chosen, "Instructor Super visor of the Quarter." During World War' II, Sgt. Reckard served as a top turret gunner and flight engineer on B-17 aricraft with the 8th Air Force. His crew was selected as the lead crew of the wing and while shooting down an ME-262 and FW-190 on the same mis sion to Orlanienburg, Germany. Sergeant Reckard has been awarded the Distinguished Fly ing Cross, the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, European Theater of Operations ribbon with three campaign stars, the Good Conduct medal, World War II Victory medal, Germany Oc cupation Medal, the American Defense ribbon, and the Ameri can Theater of Operation rib bon. Willing Workers MURDOCK (Special) The Willing Workers 4-H Club held a meeting at the home of Peggy Rase. Eight members and two leaders were present. A business meeting was held and demonstratinos followed. Members went to Weeping Water Monday to practice demonstrations. jJahh Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ahrens and family of Elmwood were Thursday guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Ahrens and family. Marjorie Zaloudek visited for a few days with Elizabeth Ah rens. Mrs. Ed Freeman, Steven and Paula were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Charles Freeman and her houseguests, Mickey and Michael McCann of St. Paul. Monday afternoon guests of Mrs. Gordon Heneger were Ruth Hart, Mrs. Mary Domingo and Mrs. Rasmus Lauritzen. Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rasmus sen and Linda of Des Moines, Iowa visited for a week with Mr. and Mrs. Chris Rasmussen and with friends In Weeping Water. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Dwinell of Bedford, Iowa were visiting with friends in Weeping Water on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Rhodes of Shelton were visiting friends on Wednesday. Mrs. Henry Knaup, Mrs. Mae Nielsen, Mrs. C. F. Stilgebourer of Gettysburg, South Dakota and Mrs. Fred Engelking of Elm wood visited on Monday with Mrs. Bertha Fitch and Miss Ah Iene Fitcn at their cabin at Lake Park near South Bend. Rodney Knaup of Falls City visited with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kr.aup for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kelser and Mr. .and Mrs. John Warren of Lancaster, Kansas, Mrs. W. F. Horn, Mabel Harmer and Mrs. Fred Neumeister were Sunday visitors of Mrs. T. H. Hanlan. Richard Ashlock of Nebraska City and Jody Pilfold visited on Monday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Wade. Mrs. Laurence Eidenmiller and Lloyd and Mrs. Alan Spang ler were Tuesday afternoon guests of Mrs. Clifford Cooper. Mrs. Ed Freeman was a Thursday supper guest of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Freeman and family. She spent three nights at the Freeman home. Mrs. G. R. Reckard reports that she and Mr. Reckard re ceived long distance calls on Sunday from Franklin Reckard of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, M-Sgt. and Mrs. Weaver Reck ard of Wichita Falls, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Reckard and family of Lexington, Massa chusetts. Mrs. Reckard was very ill on Thursday and under the care of the doctor. She is 84 years of age and has not been well since March. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Bickford and Reggie returned home on Monday from a visit with Terry Bickford of Columbia, Missouri. They all enjoyed the trip to the Lake of the Ozarks. Enroute home they visited Truman's Mu seum at Independence, Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Bickford and Reggie visited Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bickford and family at Sabetha, Kansas before return ing home. Legion Auxiliary Meets at Elmwood The Elmwood American Le gion Auxiliary Unit 247 met Thursday at the Legion Hall. Officers elected for the en suing year are Sharon Rorie, president; Mary Philips, junior past president; Irene Strabel, vice president, Alma Clements, sergeant at arms; Ethel Heier, chaplain; Mabel Ebeler, secr etary, and Vivian Turner, trea surer. Ethel Strabel acted as install in officer and Emily Gonzales as sergeant at arms. Delegates elected to the De partment Convention at Grand Island are Ethel Strabel, Mabel Ebeler, Sharon Rorie and Irene Strabel. Alternates are Emily Gonzales, Mary Phillips, Vivian Turner and Daisy Moore. Lennie Wittmore, Boys State representative, gave a report on what he had learned at Boys State this year. Sharon Borne meier, Girls Stater, reported on Girls State. New silverware was purchas ed for the kitchen. Lunch was served by the host ess, Alma Clements. Happy Hustlers MURDOCK (Special) The Happy Hustlers 4-H Club held its fifth meeting at the Harold Zier rctt home. Eight members were present.
