The Christian Church Sunday school held a picnic on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bu.stor Baxter and Russell of Avoea. The men and boys spent the afternoon playing ball and croquet. Ice cream and cake were enjoyed in the afternoon. Mrs. IJUie Thompson of Lin coln spent Sunday afternoon un til Monday morning with Mrs. F'rl Freeman. The forty third annual church youth fathering ended on the Doane College Campus on Saturday. Tom succeeds Ted Currey of Reividerc. Judy Flowerday of Sew ard is the vice-president, Kathy Weber of Lincoln is secretary and Al Rowe of Ralston is trea surer. Mrs. Norman Urwin and Alan were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cooper. They all attended the Karen Eirlenmiller-Alan Spangler wed ding in the afternoon at the Congregational church. Norman I Urwin joined them for supper in the evening. Mrs. Edward Ruby and Jeff of Union were Monday after noon guests of Mrs. Clifford Cooper. Mrs. Burger underwent foot sur gery last Friday at the Memor ial hospital in Syracuse and was rplpased on Saturday. She will be on crutches for about two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Dokter, Eldon and Kerl Sue enjoyed a -Week's vacation! visiting rela tives in South Dakota and Minne sota. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Dokter at Andover, South Dakota and Mr. and Mrs. George Hove and family and other relatives. Enroute home they came through Wisconsin, and Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schantz of Chicago, Illinois visited from Tuesday until Thursday with their grandparents, Mr. ana Mrs. Lester Hoback. They were on their honeymoon. Mr. Rhoden received ; first deeree burns on his face! and third degree burns on his ; hands. His hair was singed. He will be in the hospital at Room 706 for two weeks and will not be able to work the rest of the sum mer. Mrs. Earl Freeman of Avoca was a Thursday afternoon guest of Mrs. Ed Freeman. Susan Steckley. Clarke Steck ley, Richard Elliott and Torn Hays attended the Congrega tional Church conference at Doane campus for a week. The younj people returned home Saturday. Mrs. Tom Tennant had minor surgery at the Dr's. Clinic in Syracuse Tuesday. Mrs. Arthur Derby drove to Ashland Saturday to get her granddaughters, Julie and Penny Derby. Gobelman Is DAR Hostess At Dinner Monday Fontenelle Chapter DAR met in the Fellowship Room at the Methodist Church June 26. The retiring Regent, Mrs. Mollie Gobelman, was hostess at a 6:30 p.m. dinner for chapter mem bers and guests. The tables were beautifully decorated with vases of red, wdiite and blue flowers. Alternat ing with the vases of flowers were small holders for two flags (the fifty star U. S. Flag and the blue and white DAR Flag). The drum nut cups and favors were also in patriotic colors. Seated at the head table with Mrs. Gobelman, was the newly elected Regent, Mrs. Elsie Wiles, and three state officers, State Regent Mrs. Grant A. Ack erman; Miss Erma Jean Croft, editor of the DAR State Bulletin and Mrs, W. M. Folger, state chairman; of Insignia. Other Quests were Mrs. Milton Scott, wife of the Methodist Min ister, Mrs. E. C. Giles, a mem ber of Jonathan Cass Chapter; Mrs. Paul Jahrig, Mrs. James Cook and Mrs. Robert Lorence of Santa Barbara, Calif. The dinner was prepared and served by the Naomi Circle of the Methodist Church. After the dinner the Regent called for a short business meet ing. The ritual was given, the secretary and treasurer reports were read and the correspon dence was read. The magazine chairman read the President General's letter. This closed the year's work. The visiting State Regent was asked to install the newly elec ted officers. State officers were asked to speak; the two chairmans gave short talks about their depart ments and material they could recommend for next year's chapter programs. The State Regent spoke on America Patriotism. She told of the need of a positive American Belief, and devotion to safeguard American Freedom and a Free Enterprise System of Econ omics. At the close of the meeting Mrs. Gobelman took her Reg ent's Pin and personally pinned it on the new regent, Mrs. Wiles. seh, Mrs. Glenn bert Lorence Cook and Mrs. Murray Mavericks Tour Arbor Lodge MURRAY (Special) The Murray Mavericks 4-H Club met Tuesday morning at the Presby terian Church to go on their tour. They took a sack lunch and ate dinner at Steinhart Park in Ne braska City. They went through John Brown's Cave and then went to Arbor Lodge State Park where the forrester took them on the tree trail and explained, the dif ferent trees; also, through the Manor house. As a final treat, Mrs. Dale Wohlfarth treated members to somehting cold to drink before coming home. Mrs. Charles Spangler and Mrs. Joe Richter drove the cars. There were 10 boys on the tour. Chris Spangler, reporter. Cubs Take Trip Eighty-six local Cub Scouts, Den Mothers and some parents, enjoyed a day long Trip to Shenandoah, la., Saturday, June 17. They left Omaha at 7:45 a.m. and returned to Plattsmouth around 5 p.m. While they were in Shenandoah, they toured the Earl May flower gardens and visited the local radio station. A sack lunch was served. Picnic for Cubs Local Cub Pack 399 and par ents will hold a picnic Sunday, July 9, at the Harold Dukes farm, 4'2 miles west of Murray. Dukes is Commander of the ! local VFW, the organization that sponsors the local Pack. The picnic is to be a covered dish affair, and everyone in the Pack Is urged to attend. The Regent's Pin was given to Fontenelle Chapter by Mrs. Pearl Reilly. The Chapter adjourned to meet again in September. The Fontenelle Chapter is the oldest patriotic organization in Plattsmouth, organized in 1913. in, Lincoln; Mrs. Grant A. Ackerman, State Re gent, Lincoln, and Mrs. W. M. Folger, State Chair man of the Insignia, also of Lincoln. Mrs. Gobel man has been Regent of Fontenelle Chapter the past two years. Troop 469 Scouts' Camp Events Listed Boy Scout Troop 469, sponsor ed by the Plattsmouth Lions Club, returned Saturday after noon after spending a week camping at Camp Cedars near Fremont. The troop camp program was arranged in May by Scoutmas ter Robert Mann and the junior leaders, Don Bunch, Don Story, Darrel Draper and Charles Mann. Camp began Sunday after noon, June 25, with a medical examination and swimming tests. On Monday morning the boys began to receive instruc tion in scouting and field sports. Tuesday evening at the Troop Campfire Larry Beavers was in vested with his tenderfoot badge. Thursday evening was visitors night. A camp-wide campfire and dances by the Ahamo In dians proceeded the "calling out" of new members to the Or der of the Arrow, an nonary camping organization. Charles Mann, who was attending camp Cedars for the fourth year, was called from Troop 469. Saturday morning Da r r e 1 Draper and Bob Shepard won the mile swim award. At noon, when camp closed, Dick Detrich, Donald Bunch, Dale Johnson, and Bob Shepard had completed their require ments to be advanced from Tenderfoot Scouts to Second Class Scouts. Larry Beavers Charles Mann, Darrel Draper, Donald Bunch, and Dan Story had qualified for the Swimming Merit Badge. Darrel Draper and ' Charles Mann had also quali fied for the Safety Merit Badge. Scouts from Troop 469 attend- j ing Camp Cedars this year were I Charles Mann, Darrel Draper, Dale Johnson, Mike Hughes, Dick Detrich, Bob Shepard, Don Story, Niel Eraas, Don Bunch and Larry Beavers. E. Grady home. Mrs. Bill Rosencran and boys of South Bend spent Friday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Grady and their guests. Mrs. Turley Wall suffered a light stroke and was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital Saturday The report is she is some better and may be returned home in a few days. Niles Coleman returned home from the hospital Wednesday. Mrs. Oliver Boiler is to under go surgery today Monday, at the Bryan Memorial hospital. Mrs. Wilson Lambert under went surgery Tuesday the 27, at the Bryan Memorial hospital. Kelly Jean, 17 month daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Williams was bitten by a dog Wednesday. She spent 2 days at Bryan Mem orial hospital. There will be no serious results from the injury is the report. Mrs. Leonard Jardine return ed home from the hospital Thursday after having surgery for her broken hip couple weeks ago. Gregg Stratton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Stratton, who suf fered a broken arm near his right wrist, some weeks ago is getting along fine and expects the cast to be taken off soon.
