1 26 Eighth Grade Grads at Elmwood ELMWOOD (Special) Eighth Grade Graduation and Honors was held at the Methodist church. Twenty-six students graduated from the eighth grade. They are: Roger Crandell, Carolyn Davis, Terry Dennis, Bryce Doe bele, Vona Drake, David rietschman, Mary Ann Hall, Nadine Hall, Carolyn Ham, Myron Hollenbeck, Onalee Kunz, Linda Laughlin, Nancy Miller. James Phillips, Judy Reed, Marie Rosenow, Vickl Schomak er, Robert Schroeder, Orant Turner, Barbara Vogt, Robert Vogt, Gary Workman, Patricia Workman, Robert West, Diane Meeks and Mary Lou Fitz. Rev. F. W. Schroeder gave a short address to the class. Robert Cecil, the eighth grade teacher, presented diplomas. Nancy Miller was presented the valedictorian trophy for being high in her class. Other honors were presented to various high school students. Kathleen Kirchoff received the Homemakers award and the Pep Club award. Gary Clements received the Citizenship and Music Awards. He was salutatorian of his class and also received a medal for being top athlete. Sherry Stolz received the girls' top athlete award. I Don Hollenbeck was valedic torian of his class. Don and Richard Vogt received recogni tion for outstanding scholarship this year. They maintained an average of 93 or above. Letters were presented to those who received them in music and athletics. Warren Phillips was presented a Journalism award for out standing work on this year's an nual. Barbara Vogt and Bryce Doe bele were named outstanding athletes In the eighth grade. Family Reunion at Mrs. Behrns Home AVOCA (Special) A family reunion was held at the Mrs. Joe Behrns home Memorial Day. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Will Jorjensen, Union; Mr. and Mrs. George Jorjensen, Ne braska City; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Jorjensen and family, Manhat tan, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Haffke and family, Plattsmouth; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford O'Connor and family, Nehawka; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Dodds and" family, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Richard fleuhrille, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Doller, Omaha; Mrs. Mable Johnson, Nebraska City. This was the reunion of the late Pete Jorjensen family, held annually. A Classified Ad in The Journal cost as little as 50 cents. f j . i ' J I mi IMr. and Mrs. Merritt Dodson Bonnie Flanders of Lynch, Mr. Dodson of Nehawka Wed NEHAWKA (Special) A double-ring ceremony was held for Bonnie Flanders of Lynch and Merritt Dodson of Nehawka May 27 at 2 at the First Metho dist Church of Lynch, Rev. Les ter Spragg of Lynch officiating. The bride Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Flanders of Lynch and the groom is the son of Mrs. Audrey Dodson of Ne hawka. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father wore a floor-length gown of white Chantilly lace and lustrous brid al satin. The fitted bodice of chantilly lace was designed with a scalloped neckline edged with bridal lace. The long sleeves came to bridal points at the wrists. The chantilly lace extended into the skirt which was gath ered and full from a basque waist and featured a white sa tin panel down the front. The brJcJe's veil was double French Illusion and held by a tiara of pearls and sequins. She carried a bouquet of white baby roses and carnations tied with white satin ribbon. Matron-of-honor was M r s. Robert Tienken, who wore a bal lerina length dress of yellow ny lon eyelet over taffeta. S, M, L, XL. 2.50 'mm groom, wore a dress of lavendar nylon eyelet over taffeta styled the same as that of the matron-of-honor. Each carried a colon ial dress bouquet of mums and wore headbands of the same color as her dress. Judy Flanders, sister of the bride, was flower girl and wore a dress of yellow identical to the bridesmaid's and matron-of-honor. Karen Flanders, and Linda Tonner were candle lighters and also had dresses identical to the others. Michael Calhoon cousin of the bride was ring bearer and carried the rings on a white sa tin pillow trimmed with yellow ribbon. Margene Weeder and Loren Plnkerman sang, accompanied at the piano by Sharon Christ ensen. The groom wore a dark Char coal suit with a white carnation boutonniere. Brian Gfeller of Scotia was best man and Gary Flanders, brother of the bride, was groomsman. Vilas Braun and Roman Phil lips were ushers. All wore white carnation boutonnieres. The reception was held fol lowing the ceremony at the Le gion Hall. The wedding cake was baked by Mrs. Albert Flanders, grandmother of the bride, and decorated by Mrs. Jack Yuoel. Sharon Dodson, sister of the groom, had charge of the guest book. Waitresses were Doris Hrbek and Isla Ruda. The bride is a 1958 graduate of Lynch High School, attended school at Wayne the past three summers, and taught school the past three years. The groom is a graduate of Nehawka High School of 1953, graduated from Peru College in 1957, and has taught school the past four years. He was recently awarded a National Science Foundation Scholarship to at tend Pittsburg College in Kan sas, where they plan to live this summer. Clements and Hollenbeck Lead Elmwood Grads ELMWOOD (Special) Elm wood High School commence ment was held at the Methodist church. Mrs. Dwight Clements played the Processional and Reces sional. Rev. W. C. Bavis gave the Invocation and Benediction. The Salutatory was given by Gary Clements. He also sang "The Builder." The Triple Trio sang "Halls of Ivy." Donald Hollenbeck gave the valedictorian address. Neal Gomon, president of Peru State Teachers College, gave the address. Eunice B. Stock, principal, presented the graduating class to Howard Pool, chairman of the Board of Education, who award ed diplomas. Arthur Ferguson, superinten dent, awarded the scholarships. Donald Hollenbeck received an achievement scholarship and the Story scholarship to Nebraska Wesleyan University. Following are the seniors who graduated: Rex Brown, Gary Clements, Bob Fleischman, Ger ald Fredenburg, Don Hollen beck, Stephen Jicka, Kathleen Kirchhoff, Warren Phillips, Erick Sender and Keith Swarts. Rev. J. W. Hansen gave the sermon at Baccalaureate. Nehawka News Mrs. F. 0. Sand Mr. and Mrs. Robert Murdoch and family were guests Sunday of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wood Murdoch of Rockport, Mo. Friday Mrs. Murdoch and chil dren visited Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Botkin of Lincoln. Vilas Sheldon Jr. of Artesia, New Mexico; Marion Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. Wildon Switzer were recent guests of the Shel don Mitchell family. Miss La Verna Ingwerson of Omaha spent Sunday with the Mitchell family. Mr. and Mrs. Henning John son, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Johnson and family were supper guests Thursday of the Bob Johnson family of Talmage. Bob John son and Tom Johnson had heavy hail damage In that area to their wheat. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Haus child attended the alumni ban quet in Weeping Water. Their overnight guests Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Terry Hanneman of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Campbell, Denver, Colo, and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Campbell of Ashland were recent guests of Mrs. Ida Hicks and Mrs. Robert Adkins and daughter. Mrs. Hicks, Mrs. Ad kins and daughter and their guests had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Plunkett Sr. of Weeping Water. Mrs. Maurine Wolph of Lin coln stopped Thursday at the home of Miss Evelyn Wolph on her way to Clarinda, Iowa to visit her daughter, Mrs. Gene Maier and family. Mrs. James Chriswissor and Phon 2708 Irene and Mrs. Gilbert Kime had dinner at the Legion at Nebras ka City and later attended the dance recital In which Debbie Spear took part. Mrs. Lois Spear Miss Joan Kime of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. George Kime and the George Poulos family of Auburn also attended the recital. Philip and Randy Melslnger are spending two weeks with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ficken of Ansley, Nebr, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bundy and family of Omaha were guests of the' Meisingers Sunday. Mrs. Amelia Balfour had a cataract removed from one eye at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebr aska City Friday. Her condition is good. Mrs. Deane Nutzman was hon ored twice Sunday on her birth day. Mrs. Emma Nutzman .and Mildred entertained at dinner with the Deane Nutzman family and Henry Ross as guests. An evening dinner at the Clifton Garrison home near Union in cluded the Deane Nutzman family, Gail Hoback family, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clark and Arnold Fahrlander. Mrs. M. E. McDonald was a guest Sunday and Monday of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Van Every of Lincoln. Mrs. Gilbert Kime and Mrs. George Kime were dinner guests Wednesday or the George Poulos family in Auburn. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pointr of Omaha were weekend guests of the Emmmitt Hicks. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Plunkett Sr. of Weeping Water spent sev eral days the past week with Mis. Ida Hicks and Mrs. Robert Adkins and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Haus child were guests at a barberue Sunday evening at the Willis Lorensen home near Weeping Water. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were dinner guests Sunday at the Dick Johnson home. Mrs. Elmer Ross, Debbie and Nancy were overnight guests Friday of her mother, Mrs. Floy Buell of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Buell and family of Sy racuse visited Wednesday eve ning at the Ross home. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Trombla and Linda of Wichita, Kansas were weekend guests of Mrs. Ona Kunkel. Sunday the Tromblas and Dr. and Mrs. L. N. Kunkel of Weeping Water were dinner guests of Mrs. Ona Kunkel. Mrs. Harry Knabe went to Lincoln Thursday to attend the Nebraska State Board of Nurs ing Conference at the Cornhus ker Hotel. Wendell Turner and Leonard Jones Jspent the week with Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Reeves of Brown vllle. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Knabe visited the cemetery at Platts mouth, the Glendale Cemetery at Louisville, Sunday and then went to Yutan. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gansemer were dinner guests Tuesday of the Knabes.
