Photos by Frank Grimaldi. 1st Communion, May Crowning At St. John's Church Here Last Sunday, 23 children of St. John's Parish received their First Holy Communion. The children marched in a group into the church, led by two "angels," Terry Long and Ruth Moranz., where they at tended Mass. At Communion time, the "angels" led them, two by two, to the altar. There they received their First Holy Communion from the hands of their pastor, Monsignor JoseDh Przudzik, Sunday evening at 7:30, the annual May Crowning of. Our Lady took place at at. John's Church. It began with a procession of all the grade school children who marcned from St. John School to the Church. The choir girls of the seventh and sixth grades wore blue choir robes and the girls of the grad uating class wore red gradua tion gowns. Upon entering the church, they formed a color guard lor the clergy and the May Queen, Nora Jean Case, and her at tendants, Monica Lurkowski and Barbara Brink. Hymns of devotion to Mary were sung as the May Queen crowned the statue of Our Lady. Father Myron Pleskac, assist ant pastor at St. Johns, then delivered a sermon on "Mary, Our Mother." The devotion was concluded by Solemn Benedic tion. Monsignor Joseph Przudzik, pastor at St. John's, was cele brant. He was assisted by Fath er John Kozlik of Cedar Biuris, Deacon, and Father Pleskac, Subdeacon. Scouters To Covered Wagon Council Dinner The Plattsmouth Scouters were In attendance Tuesday evening at the Ak-Sar-Ben Coli seum for the Annual Meeting and Recognition Dinner of the Covered Wagon Council, Boy Scouts of America. Approximately 2,000 Scouters were gathered to see the presen tation of the Silver Beaver awards, which are given In ap preciation to people who have made outstanding contributions in service for boys both In scout ing and other community organ izations. Six awards were made and two of the recipients were: MaJ Herb Bass and Ted Clark of South District. A third recipient was Pat Norton, Business Man ager of Boys Town who will be the featured speaker of the eve nlng Thursday, May 18, at the Court of Honor for the Scouts ! of Plattsmouth, to be held at the liion s uiuD at 7:au p.m. Speaker of the evening at At Sar-Ben was Admiral Arlelgh Burke, Chief of Naval Oper ations for the United States. Ad- milra Burke flew in after having had lunch with the President of the United States. Admiral Burke warned of Apathy on the part of the people of America and stressed the im portance of character and citi zenship training through the Boy Scout program. Scouters from Plattsmouth in attendance were: Mr. and Mrs. John Rishel, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Silvia, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Fitch, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Nielsen, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Spradlin, Bob Mann and son Charles, Mon signor Joseph Przudzik, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Colbert, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Fees, Rev. Father "Bob" Hodgson, Al Hansen and son Allen. Billy Spradlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Spradlin, was guest honor Explorer as escort to Admiral Burke, representing the Plattsmouth group. New Members Join Boot and Spur Club : The Boot and Spur 4-H Club gained three new members, Fri day night, May 12. They are Linda, and Roger Howard and Martha Todd. Richard. Haecke gave a dem onstration on the cleaning of a bridle and the general care of tack. The meeting adjourned to the barn where a practical demon stration on the parts of a horse was shown; also showing a colt at halter, saddling, bridling, and mounting a horse properly. Homemade ice cream was served by the hosts, Richard and Dennis Haecke. A birthday cake honored three birthdays. Those honored were Dennis Haecke, Stevie Hennings and Linda How ard. Shop Ben Franklin and mmws 5c & r 10c W I I : Funeral Services For Charles Maybee Charles Maybee, 65, died Thursday morning at Veterans hospital in Lincoln after an ill ness of one year. "He was born October 61895, at Bellevuelhe son of Mr. and Mrs. Lenzy Maybee. He was married February 6, 1818, at Plattsmouth. His wife, Pansy survives. He moved to Nebraska City in 1922 and operated a liquor store for several years. He also lived in Plattsmouth. He was a member of the American Legion, D.A.V. and the Last Man's club. He served with Company D, Seventh Regi ment Infantry in the Army.- ; .? Survivors include CharlM. Jr Talmage; Robert, stationed with the Air Force at Rapid City S. D .; Harold. Nebraska Citv: Mrs. Shirley Lutge, San Fran cisco; Leo, Nebraska City: Mrs Josephine Livingston,-Nebraska uny; Mrs. Marjorie Neemann Lincoln; Mrs. Lois Prather Cal exico, Calif.; Larry Allen Mav- bee. Lincoln: Mrs. Jacnnelinp Tibbel, West Point; Mrs. Nancy Michael, Omaha, and Patrick Lee Maybee, Coleridge Ne braska. Also surviving are sisters Mrs. Margaret Covert, Platts mouth; Mrs. Goldie Bashus Omaha, and a brnrhpr mdnarri of South Carolina and several grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Two brothers, two sis ters and his parents preceded nim in death. Funeral services were Satur day, May 13, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Ted Youngerman offi ciating. Burial was at Wyuka Ceme tery, Nebraska City. Pallbearers were Leo Wilcox; Dick Niemann, Albert Bachler, George Coupe, Charles Gude, Sr. and Earl Denison.
