Mrs. George Rouse entered Providence Hospital In Lincoln and underwent major surgery Wednesday morning'. The report is she is getting along alright. Mrs. N. I). Talcott was taken back to the Bryan Memorial Hospital Friday after taken ill Thursday night. Mrs, Earl Stradley returned home Tuesday after spending 3 weeks at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mx. and Mrs. J. C. Sullivan of Denton, Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan have a son born Feb. 1 and has been named Robert Bruce and he has 3 sis ters. Mrs. Stradley has been help ing care for Mrs. Sullivan and her family. Mrs. Beulah Kitchens fell and suffered a broken left arm last week. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lovell and Mr. and Mrs. John Lovell and family have moved on a farm 2 miles south and V2 niile east of Ceresco. Their telephone numbers is 785-2306 Davey ex change. Nancy Ehlers had charge of the school contributions, which was her FHA project on Com munity Service. The total sum was $197.08. Call Your News And Social Items to 241 Vernon Kaffenberger Is Army Enlistee I Vermin Kaffenberger The Army enlistment of Ver non Lee Kaffenberger, 23, was announced recently by Recruit ing Sergeant David Groves, Army representative from Ne braska City. Kaffenberger, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vcrner M. Kaffenber ger 512 North 6th Street, Platt.s mouth, recently completed three years of college towards his teachers degree. After a brief enlistment cere mony at Fort Omaha, Nebraska, the enlistee will depart for Fort Riley, Kan., for initial proces sing and assignment to an Army Training Center. The new recruit will receive training in the field of Military Supply Systems following eight weeks of basic instruction. News of Elmwood Organizations ELMWOOD (Special) Girl Scout Troop 137 met in the Christian Church along with Troops 228 and 345. The meet ing opened with singing. Mrs. Earl Miller spoke about skin and hair care. Girls learn ed the correct way to brush their hair and clean their faces. Each troop had a separate meeting before adjourning. Troop 137 had a "fish pond" to raise money for the Heart Fund. Kathleen Juilfs was hostess and served chocolate cake. Kristie Eveland, reporter. The Bluebird Extension Club met with Mrs. Orley Clements, Feb. 21 with an attendance of 14 members. Mrs. Horton and Mrs. Gonzales gave the lesson "Create your own Business Center." Mrs. Parsell, was act ing president tri'the: absence of Mrs. Eveland. Plans for a bake sale were discussed. Mrs. Em mett Cook was assistant hostess. In the abscence of the presi dent and vice president, the secretary had charge of the business at the Town Kensing ton which met with Minnie Kunz Feb. 23. Miss K u n z is secretary. Edna Fleischman had charge of the program. Jokes and an interesting article were read by each one of the 11 members oresent. Those having February birthdays were Linda Gustin and Edna Fleischman. It was de cided to send a get well card to Mary Williams and a sym pathy card to Otto Stege. The Cottage Homemakers met j with LaRae Spohn with eight! members present. H a r r i a 1 1 1 Jones had Citizenship report. ' Devotions were by Jo Vogt. Song leader, Viola Timblin lead in singing "My Country 'Tis of Thee." Hulda Oerlerking and Bernice Dankleff brought the lesson on "Business Center in the Home." Next meeting is with Sherral Oehlerking. Fairview Extension Club met at the home of Clara Freden burg with 6 members present. Mrs. Howard Miller and Mrs. Skyle Miller Jr. presented the lesson which was "Create Your Own Business Center." Mrs. Fredenberg served a delicious lunch. The PNG circle met at the home of Daisy Moore with Mary Williams as assistant hostess, for a covered dish luncheon, 20 members were present. It was nice to have Mrs. Lyle and Mrs. Floy Buell from Lin coln and Mrs. Inez Muenchau from Eagle who are not always able to attend our meetings. The program consisted of a surprise for the program chair man, Lillie Reber, in the form of a "This is your Life" enter tainment. The program was composed of a song by Opal Clements ac companied by Daisy Moore, modeling of Lillie's wedding dress by Dorothy Stock, skits and stories concerning her life by Elsie Wendt, Ethel Strabcl, Opal Shreve, Inez Muenchau, Dorothy West, Clarice Krall and Louise Stock. Frances Miller ac ted as master of ceremonies. The principal was truly sur prised and was presented with a gift in token of her faithfulness as program chairman for three years. j u lit ' 1 1 ; ' . 'VwJ 7 dlvD Mrs. Wilson Howe The evening was spent at the Alvo Ch'urch Saturday by Alvo People for a 'Family Fun Night' get together. Games were play ed. A film Strip of "World Head Lines" was shown and discussed, ! a playlet "Bumberella" was put on by trie Junior Mit, their version of "Cinderella." A film strip was shown the School Age Children during the discussion of the film for the adults. Lunch was served by a com mittee. Rev. and Mrs. Carl Spencer directed entertainment. Sunday evenings a group of people meet at the Church Stu dying the book "All the World Together." Last Sunday evening 17 attended the meeting. This Sunday evening there was 15 present. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nickel have a new grandaughter born Saturday to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Nickel at Columbia, Mo. She has been named Janet Faye and has one brother, Darrel. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Boettner and children went to St. Paul, Nebraska Sunday to visit Mr. Boettner's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brehm, Mr. Boettner's mother. Mrs. Bernice Boettner of Bennett accompan ied them. The occasion was to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Boettner's birthdays also a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brehm 's birthday. La Von Howe from Cedar Rapids, Nebr. came to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Howe and family last weekend. A niece of Mrs.. A. B. Stroemer visited with them this weekend, Mrs. L. C. Brown from Wauneta. They took her to Omaha, Sunday to visit her son at a hospital. Mrs. Earl Dreamer came home from Bryan Hospital in Lincoln this week, having had surgery. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Bryant and family of Council Bluffs were with Mrs. Bryant's "par nets, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Skin ner over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hermann had as their overnight guests Saturday evening their grand children, Sandy and David Tay lor of Lincoln while their par ents attended the Sports Show iin Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hermann were with their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Taylor and femily, Sunday for dinner cele brating their granddaughter Sheril Hermann's birthday, her parents, M.r. and Mrs. Bud Her mann and family were also there for the celebration. The after noon was spent socially. The Rebekah Kensington met on Wednesday afternoon in the Lodge Hall with Mrs. Elmer Michelsen, Sr. presiding at the business meeting. The members spent the afternoon cutting quilt blocks. They enjoyed a lunch at the cafe following the meeting. The Triple T Dairy Club and the Early Bird Poultry Club met on Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hohman and family with the fourteen members present and the fami lies of the members as guests. Deanna Bond presided at the meeting. The group will hold a roller skating party in Elm wood March 19. The members completed the entry blanks for the Hoard's Dairy judging con test.
