Mrs. Freda Ballance local depot agent is on a week trip to Pasadena, California where she visited a niece. Mr. Applegarth is assisting in her absence. Darrell Seegel has been quite ill this week and been staying with his mother. Mrs. Charles Marshall attend ed the Rotary Valentine party at the Cornhusker Fe'o. 14. The pro gram was pictures of France. Mrs. Pearl Vette accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cezschin to Nebraska City Tuesday to help Mrs. George Hemphill ob serve her 86 birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hennings were in Louisville Sunday to help his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Henning observe their 61 wedding anniversary. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Carsten were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wennacamp and Miss Carlene Allgyer, Oma ha and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Allg yer Sr., Weeping Water. Mrs. Kenneth Wessel and Rita visited at the John Wolph home in Lincoln Thursday evening. Charles Marshall flew to De catur, 111., Wednesday to attend agriculture meeting of young farmers at the beginning of their conference. Sam Garner fell on the ice Saturday and was rushed by am bulance to a Lincoln hospital. They found he had broken two vetebrae in his neck. Mrs. Fred Meyer entertained for .her daughter Shirley's 11 birthday after school Thursday. Present were Sue'len and John Emshoff, Maryann Zimmerer, Rita Wessel, Bette Jeanne Hall strom. Mr. and Mrs. John Linglo Sr. rtcompaiiied Mr. : u, Mrs. Hu bert Bowman and son of Weep ing Water Sunday to Sterling where a cooperative dinner was held at Cook Community build ing to honor Mr. and Mrs. Win Wilken on their 25th wedding an niversary. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Freeman entertained at a card party Sun day evening. Prizes went to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ruhge, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Ehlers. Mr. and Mrs. James Jensen entertained at dinner for the birthday of their daughter Jcni Sue and the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dankleff. Those present were the hosts and other children, Roger and Judy Ann Jensen, Miss Matilde Madsen and Mr. and Mrs. Dan kleff. Mr. and Mrs. Wm Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hoback, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ruhge, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ruhge, Mrs. Maude Ruhge attended the funeral of Roy Gregg Tuesday. Mrs. Vernon Dettmer had thy roid surgery at Bryan Memorial Hospital, Lincoln Tuesday and was able to come home Friday. The Farmerettes Extension Club held a Valentine party Sat urday evening at the Richard Wilson home. Their husbands were guests. Ted Wilson was able to leave St. Mary's Hospital last Mon day. Mrs. John Emshoff visited in Lincoln Tuesday at the Wayne Wessel home. Mrs. Minderman brought her home next day. John Berner, Tecumseh suf fered a heart attack while at his .tore Thursday. He walked across the street to his doctor and was immediately sent to Tecumseh Hospital. Mrs. Sophie Emshoff has moved back to her home here after spending several months with her children. M,i". and Mrs. John Mohr, Beatrice visited at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Mohr Sunday. The children of Mr. qnd Mrs. LeRoy Haveman all have the mumps. Wayne and Dale Haver man their cousins staying there while their mother is in the hos pital with a new son also have the mumps. Mr. and Mrs. Lenord Have man announce the birth of a son at Bryan Hospital, Lincoln, Feb. 16. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Haveman and Mrs. Helen Noerrlinges all of Avoca. Great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hillman, Otoe. The couple have two other sons. Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Henning visited Albert Hennings at the hospital Sunday afternoon. He was to stay over for more tests and treatments. They also visi ted Mrs. Tony Johnson who un derwent surgery last week at Methodist Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Beck visited at the Eddie Grell home Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Klemme and son Frank of Murdock, Mrs. Frank Fiala, John Brosnihan of Omaha were dinner guests at the Richard Fiala home Sunday to help Mrs. Fiala celebrate her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Grell and sons called at the Earl Beck home Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Reike of Weeping Water visited at the Ray Mayfield home Monday eve ning of last week. Mr. and Mrs. John Wegener were supper guests at the Earl Wolfe home in Nehawka Mon day of last week. Mrs. Elmer Sprieck and daughters, Mrs. Clarence Sjog ren and Sharlene were at Mrs. C. E. Sutton's Sunday, celebrat ing Mrs. Sjogren's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Group attended the funeral of Mrs. Group's uncle at Harlan, Iowa, Tuesday. Mrs. John Ritter and Mrs. Jim Ingram spent Thursday in Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cordes, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Cordes were dinner guests at the Carl Richert home in Murdock Sun day. Mrs. John Wegener visited Tuesday with her sister, Mrs. Clair Schwalm, at her home in Omaha. Attend Funeral For Rev. Hefner AVOCA (Special) Among those attending funeral services Saturday for the Rev. Fredrick Hefner, Syracuse were Mrs. Kenneth Wessel, Mrs. Carl Zais er, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Zimmer, Rev. J. Aeschbacker, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kepler, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ruhge, Mrs. Clara Ruhge, Miss Bertha Neumeister and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ilall strom. Rev. Hefner, 63, died at Syra cuse Hospital Tuesday. He had been in poor health for some time and recently underwent surgery. He is survived by his wife, five children, Frederick Jr., Altus, Okla.; Paul, San Francis co; Mrs. Robert Hallstrom, Avo ca: Mrs. Henrv Kehlenbeck and Mrs. Norman Cloyed both of Syracuse and five grandchildren. Rev. Hciner was well known here as he often visited his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hallstrom. Obituary Mrs. Rosa Vogt ELMWOOD (Special) Rosa Vogt, nee Gustin, was born near Murdock, April 4, 1885, to Lewis and Julia Ann (Kunz) Gustin. She was the third of five chil dren. She died at Elmwood Feb. 19 at 75. She attended what was known as the Callahan school near Murdock and from childhood at tended the Callahan Evangelical Church and Sunday school. Her father died when she was three and her mother cared lor her children on the farmstead until 1899 when they moved to Elm wood. At this time Rosa began vork irig in private homes to help care for the family needs. For a number of years she cared for her aged uncle, the late George Kunz. She was married to Henry Vogt March 9, 1911, in the home near Eln.vvood which became her home. The couple had five children. The oldest, a son Clar ence, died in infancy in 1912. About five years ago Mrs. Vogt became ill, and gradually became an invalid. Death was from a stroke suffered recently. Surviving are her husband, Henry Vogt of Elmwood; four children, Mrs. Frances Brakh age, Raymond Vogt and Howard Vogt all of Elmwood, and Mrs. Lucile Krause of Omaha; a sis ter, Mrs. Amanda Garrison of Elmwood; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, a sister and a son. Funeral services were Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Evangeli cal United Brethren church with the pastor, the Rev. Frank Schroeder, officiating. , The Rev. F. H. Stevens of Harvard, Neb., a friend of the family, spoke. Supervisor Observes Nehawka Adult Class NEHAWKA (Special) Spec ial guests at the Adult Agri cultural Class Thursday evening were Harold Duis of Washing ton, DC, regional director of vocational education and Glen Strain of Lincoln, state super visor of vocational education. They observed the class work of the local project. Their ob jective is to find ways to im prove methods in vocational education and to use them in other classes. What Affects the Price I Re ceive for Grain, a problem of growing importance to f arm operators, was discussed at the class Thursday evening. The class learned that effeci ency in marketing is important to improve prices. The class discussed the an nual production and dollar val ue of major crops nationally and in Nebraska. Wheat and soy beans proved to be the greatest export grains. Attention was focused on the utilization of barges for grain transportation to the Gulf terminals and the effect it will have on reducing the cost of transporting grain. The group was introduced to the functions and purpose of the grain exchange and con cluded the program with a film. After the Harvest, which explained how a grain market is created within the walls of the Chicago Board of Trade. KP Kookcrs Meet At Rieckmans' MURDOCK (Special) The KP Kookers met at the home of Bruce and Scott Rieckman with one member absent. Each member brought a muf fin to be judged. Bruce Rieckman demonstra ted how to make biscuits. At the next meeting, which will be at the home of Billy Toe Trutna March l1.. each member will bring a biscoit tn be judged. Mrs. Kenneth Boyd presided. Mrs. Schlosser gave a citizen ship report on "Sunday, A Day of Rest, Legal." Mrs. Kenneth Doker gave a safety article on "Medicines and How Long Will They Keep."
