i : : 1 EDITORIALS The Miracle of Time In all human experience and prog ress, no man has ever solved the puzzle of time. What is it or is it anything;. Kinstein believed there was no logical plan for the human measurement of time. We say, for example, that we spent an hour doiiitf this-and-so, but what is an hour other than a man-made measurement of seconds ticked off on a clock? Like wise a day and a month are man-made measurements of what we call time. Hut in the scheme of nature and life is there any delineation of February, where it ends, and where March begins? . There is only a cycle of life in nature, no man-made measures are valid. And Kinstein believed that a cycle of life is the Key measurement and that when cycles of life can be prolonged, time might be made to stand still ! Kinstein believed that matter chang ed its actual form when propelled through .-pace at great velocity. And if there is a -peed at which no further movement is I'ossibje, as many believe, then time might Mxleed be made to stand still, ns far as the human life cycle is concerned. I!ut so much for the high-flown scien tific theories: What about our own, man measured time? The great thinkers have tried to define it and appraise it and the conclusion of the vast majority is that time is our most precious possession. Think about that thesis. It is the one thing we always have less of tomorrow. We cannot increase our supply of it, as we can money and ma terial things. We cannot buy more of it. We only have a, limited amount of time, in which to live our lives to the best of our abilities. So the lesson of this must be: Sp-nd your time carefully and wisely. K.uli day you have so many hours to spend. Do not waste them or fail to learn, or accomplish something. And time will fool you, in the end, when its supply is running out. So do not postpone, until the last, the good work you will do. Time passes faster as age in creases. To the youngster a car seems a life time. To a person of fil'tv it seems a short span indeed. And, as we barn to appreci ate time, and want to have more of it, it' passes lasier ana i aster. Like tre sun, i high in the heavens, it seems L.j be moving. When it reaches -ei, on the horixop, it literally from view. Time, like the sun, is passing. Use i; to advanla. when it scarcely the sun: plunged consumi! w hile it lingers with you on this earth. Down Memory Lane 30 YEARS AGO The Mother's flub of the Father Klannigan home met at the home of Miss Hetty I'.ergniann with Mrs. Frank JJestor and Mrs. .1 o h n Cloidt as associate hos tesses. Miss Stella Hunter, organizer of the chilis in this part of the state, was present. A motion for a new trial in the murder case of the State vs. Inas Wever was over ruled. Mrs. Wever was convicted by a jury of poisoning her husband, George, and sentenced to life imprisonment. With the overruling of the motion, the attorneys for the defense will carry on their appeal of the case to the state supreme court." Manager Griffin of the Ilitz theater an nounced that his theater would have vaudeville on Sunday afternoon, and Sun day and Monday nights. The Te-lle-lla Camp Fire Girls met with Jean Knorr with Miss Marjorie Shopp as guardian. Eleanor Minor was scribe. As a feature of the Lenten season, the "Sacred Love Story of the Mass" in pictures and a lecture by the Rev. Fr. George A. Keith S.J., noted Cath olic lecturer, will be presented at l'armele Theater. The Platters defeated Nebr aska City, 18-G, in basketball. Galloway, Donat ami McCleary were outstanding for Plattsmouth High. IMattsmouth led at the half, 5-2. Anyone in the market for a car could buv a 1924 Ford Touring Car for $18 or a 1930 Durant for $595. The new Chevrolet Six was selling for $175 to $0,50 at E and S. Chevrolet Co., IMatts mouth. St. John's School presented a program of drama and music. Appearing were "Margaret Horgmann, Anna Mario Rea, Theresa and Mary Altschaffl, Wil bur Clans, Roberta P.everidge, Loverly Seydlitz, Leo Weich, Margaret Ann Pitz, Jacqueline Distell, Catherine Gradovilk, Eileen Case, Ruth Sniffer, Charles Grado ville, Leo Welch, Irene Converse and John Peveridge. "Following the business ! - ion, the ladies enjoyed some very pleasing numbers on the Prunswick as well as games of various kinds in keep ing with the season. The broken heart con test in which each member was given a heart to mend was won by Mrs. G. E. Decker. "The City Council last evening held a very short and sn.ippy session with all of the members on hand when th? gavel fell ind the grind of city business was soon disposed of by the members. One of the ma;:i matters of the evening was th j nai.'ii: '-; of a chief of the fire d. jartmont and J..r this position the present chief, Dr. Oscar Sandin, was named by Mayor Sch neider and coni 'rmed. Class of the Pres byterian Chiu.il and their teacher. Miss Clara Weyrieh, entertained the Gideon Class composed of young men of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Georga L. Farley and Rev. and Mrs. II. G. McClusky were special gu L. . "March Weather Is Here Ahead of Time:" The weather con ditions of the past few days are clear in dication of the fast Hearing approach of s;m iii: time and the fact that March is but li few days off is plainly evident. With the soft and balmy conditions and the slight rainfall of last night, the cool north ern wind today has brought many a shiver to the householder and caused a hurry-up call on the stoves and furnaces. Last eve ning the first lightning and thunder of the season was recorded and every indication is that the real cold weather has gone for this season, although there will probably be several snappy days before real springtime.
