C. J. Sanders. The commonness of traffic violations, which have contri buted to many tralfic acci dents, resulted in the Safety Patrol contacting 258,382 mo torists on Nebraska roads last year. This was a 31 per cent in crease over the 197,453 stopped in 1959. The contacts for the traffic violations consisted of 46,850 tummons being issued, which resulted in 47,229 charges being filed and the assessment of fines totalling $786,280.46, which was accrued to the com mon school fund in the counties where the cases were filed. In addition, 59,272 written warnings were issued for moving traffic violations and 152,260 violation cards were issued for equipment or licensing deficien cies. As a result of Patrol activity requiring increases in licensed capacities for commercial ve hicles, Nebraska operators paid fees totalling $51,293.36 and out-of-state truckers paid $29,240.50. Speed violations were noted most often among the summons Issued with 29,008 arrests. Stop sign violations accounted for 1,991 arrests, while 1,112 arrests were made for improper pass ing. Driving while intoxicated brought about convictions for 1,104 motorists. The 1,053 sum mons issued for "minor in pos session of alcohol" was a new high for this violation.
