Brownie Scout Troup No. 345 held their meeting Jan. 19 at the Methodist Church Fellow ship Room with perfect atten dance. There was a short in vestiture service for Ellen Cas teel who was received into the troop. Alter singing songs and con ducting business the troop made sack puppets. The puppets pre sented a show. Deborah Lee and Mickey Old field were hostesses. Brownie troop No. 228 met Jan. 19 at the Christian Church. There are 15 girls in this group. Kay Ferguson and Elaine Mill er were game leaders. Brenda Wolcott has been president for two months and Wendy Jicka was secretary. A sewing project was started and taken home in newly cov ered sewing boxes. Cheryl Htzgibbon served as hostess. The gins formed a Friendship Circle and sang the daylight version of Taps. Next meeting will be Feb. 2 respectively, Mrs. William Bornemeier, who died Jan. 18. Ronald will return home Jan. 24 by jet and Clarence will slay until next Saturday. The Sunday School of the Christian Church awarded pins for perfect attendance last Sun day. Patty Rueter received a seven year pin; Joan Rueter an eight year pin; Jet Stege and Virgh Rueter received nine year pins and Myrtle and John Stege received 11-year pins. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Engel king returned from California Jan. 12. They visited their dau ghter and family, Mr. and Mrs Jim Matson and Johnny, 2. They live at Los Alamitos. Other relatives and friends were also visited. They left here Dec. 4 and drove through. The Bluebird Extension Club held their regular meeting Jan. 17 at the home of Mrs. Ruth Monning with eight members and one visitor present. Mrs Parell acted a president in the absence of Mrs. O. R. Eveland The title of the lesson was "Fabrics for Drapes and Cur tains" which Mrs. Howard Pool had. Mrs. Pool being in the pro cess of refurnishing her son's room, gave a very realistic ap proach to the subject. Miss Lena Rieke was assist' ant hostess. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mills Jan. 15. He has been named Jeffrey Holden. The baby has a brother, Frankie and a sister, Marlys. Mr"."' Mills is music instructor in the Sut ton schools. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds of Kansas have been visiting her brother, Dr. O. E. Llston since before Christmas. They left for their home Jan. 22. Sunday dinner guests at the C. A. Bronn home were their daughter and family from Lin coln, Mr. and iMrs. Bob James and two sons. Mrs. Gordon Brooks of Chap pel, Nebr. spent several days last week visiting her sister, Mrs. Belle Coakley and brother Herbert Hullfish. Mrs. Rhea Jewell Nuss of Lin coln was a guests at the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Creamer several days last week. Clarence and Ronnie Borne meier flew by jet plane from their homes in California to at tend the funeral services of their mother and grandmother, The last of the Study Clubs lesson was Sunday night at the Methodist Church. The program was given over to an informal talk by Miss Ned da Nuque of Peru, South Amer ica. She was a third generation Methodist and told about her life and that of her people. Another young lady from Missouri was on tour in the middle west and she was the first speaker. In the morning services a quartet of Gary Cle ments, Dale Vandeford. Paul Eveland and George Pool sang Elm wood High School Notes ELMWOOD (Special) Elm- wood defeated Douglas last Fri day 59-43. The second team won in an overtime 34 to 31. The next home game is Friday Jan. 27 with Dunbar. Elmwood plays Nehawka the I first night of the county tourna ment Jan. 31 at Nehawka. Meet A Teacher Robert Emerson Cecil, eighth grade teacher and assistant! coach is a graduate of Nebraska j Wesleyan College with a B. A. In Education and has attended Long Beach State College and University of Nebraska with 30 hours toward an M. A. degree. This is his first year of teach ing at Elmwood. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rollle Cecil of Lincoln. Mr. Cecil says that he some day hopes to teach physical ed ucation and be a coach in a ; college. Special music Sunday at the EUB church was a solo by Le Roy Vogt. The Altar Society of the Catholic Church held their last meeting at the home of Mrs. Ed Slattery near Weeping Wa ter Jan. 11. About 18 members were present. Mrs. Elda Lenz and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kowtsky attended funeral services for Mr. Roy Stewart at Alvo. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Gonzales drove to Guthrie Center, Iowa Saturday p.m. to visit the Charles Gonnzales family. They returned Sunday evening. Mrs. Lulu Kunz is making her home for the present at the Ebeler Nursing Home. Miss An na McFall was taken there af ter her fall. She is as well as can be expected. Coming to attend her sister's, Mrs. Bornemeier's, funeral serv ices was Mrs. Marie Miller of Pueblo, Colo. From Ord, Dan, Ed and Jim Cook were present. Meet A Teacher Dale Vanderford, coach, shop, and general science teacher is a graduate of Peru State College, with a B. S. degree in education and an Mi. A. in shop, which he received from Colorado state college. Mr. Vanderford has been teaching school 10 years and the last five have been at Elmwood. Hans Jensen received a tele phone call Sunday from his nephew George Bach at Wash ington D. C. saying his father Neil Bach had passed away with burial at Arlington Cemetery. Nell Bach had made several trips to Nebraska to visit his brother-in-law and had made many acquaintances here. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hennings entertained their card club at a supper at the cafe and cards later in the evening on Monday evening. Mrs. Clyde Bogard and Mr. and Mrs. Robert McDonald re turned home Sunday from a three day trip to Nassau. The Lions Club had a supper and their January meeting at the cafe Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Burroughs of Denver and Mrs. Adeline Maple of Lincoln were guests of Mrs. Martha Ruge Monday afternoon, other callers were the Calvin Carsten family and Mrs. Dena Ruge and Frances. Mr. and Mrs. John Berner of Tecumseh, Mrs. Sophia Emshoff and Mrs. Dena Ruge and Miss Frances Ruge were Sunday din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Er nest Emshoff and Karen, Mrs. Sophia Emshoff returned home with the Berners for a visit. Last Sunday evening guests at the Harry Jacobson home were the Robert Crownover family, Mrs. Anna Mohr, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ruhge Mr. and Mrs. John Mohr, Mrs. Anna Wohlers, the Albert Bose family, the Er nie Keim family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Czeschen and Mr. Eddie Wohlers; Mr. and Mrs. Hans Jensen showed their pictures of their trip to Denmark and the rest of the evening was spent playing cards, then was in ob servance of the birthday of Mrs. Jacobson. Born: to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nutter of Union, a son Wed nesday, Jan. 18 at the hospital in Nebraska City. Materal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maseman. Mr. W. L. Gillin of Atlantic, Iowa visited relatives here Sun day, he was a dinner guest of Mrs. Minnie Huffman and Roberta. Countyans Attend Schoolmen's Day PERU The ninth annual Schoolmen's Day at Peru State Teachers Collage attracted 210 visitors from Southeast Nebras ka, Iowa and Kansas Saturday. Visitors were given the op portunity to visit Peru State's recently-completed $1.3 million building projects during the af ternoon. Tours were made of the new A. V. Larson Industrial Arts Building, A. D. Majors Men's Hall, additions to Eliza Morgan Women's Residence Hall, and the Student Center. Following the coffee hour, din ner was served in the main dining room of the Student Cen ter. The visitors were guests of the college at the Peru State- Kearney Teachers basketball game. Those attending from Cass county were: Plattsmouth Robert Medina, Cecil McKnight, Bob Humphrey, Dean Meisinger and Warren Dyke. Avoca Spencer Ledger. Louisville Don Tietjen and Rodney Bender. Avoca Women's Club With Mrs. Meyer AVOCA (Special) The Avo ca Women's Club met Wednes day afternoon with Mrs. Fred I Meyer. Nineteen members an swered roll call which was "In teresting facts about their as signed States." It was decided that those who entered the Vogue dress contest would model their entries at the February meeting. Mrs. Roy Ruhge gave a re sume of the life of Francis Scott Key after which the members sang, "Star Spangled Banner." Mrs. Emma Rowalt read a paper on "Life of Our New President and First Lady," and Mrs. Fred Marquardt spoke on "Birth Control." East Line Lassies 4-H'ers Organize EAGLE (Sepcial) The East Line Lassies 4-H Club was or ganized at the Ted Sabata home four miles west of Eagle. At that time, the Cass County girls living on the west line of the county joined the club with their neighbor county, Lancas ter. Mrs. Sutton, county home agent, was present. The leader is Mrs. Harold French and jun ior leader is Karen Axthelm, rural Lincoln. Janet, Delores and Gloria planned a birthday surprise buf fet supper for their mother Mrs. John Dangler Saturday evening. Guests were Mrs. C. O. Zaiser, Mrs. Elmer Hallstrom, Mrs. Wm. Dettmer, Mrs. John Emshoff, Mrs. Oscar Zimmerer, Mr. and Mrs. Josef Koever, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dumke and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Luce. Mrs. Henry Maseman went to Bertrand Friday to stay with her sister Mrs. Rosa Ehlers while the Jim Ehlers family are on a trip. Roger Smith has graduated from the IBM School of Auto mation at Omaha. Mrs. Viola Sill, Mrs. Nancy Carsten and Mr. and Mrs. Cal vin Carsten went to Rockport Missouri to visit cousins of Mrs. Carsten and Mrs. Sill. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Norris, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hoback were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Johnson. They spent the evening playing cards.
