Mr. and Mrs. Darwyn Hoover and family of South Sioux City, Nebr., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Philpot over the New Years weekend. The Hoovers are former Plattsmouth residents. Mrs. Joe Case was hostess at a coffee at an Avoca Cafe Saturday honoring her mother, Mrs. Flmer Hallstrom of Avoca, on her birthday. The guest of honor's birthday was Jan. 2. Six teen of Mrs. Hallstrom's neigh bors attended the affair. Mrs. Irene Troop and daugh ter, Miss Sandra Pink were host esses to a New Year's Day din ner at their home. Guests were Mrs. Anna Otte, Alice Otte, Arn old Otte, Mrs. and Mrs. Glen Reis and son Dickie, Jack Saul all of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dietl and son Donnie Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Merle D. Melsinger and daughter Susan of Plattsmouth. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Hendricks Miss Marilyn Hendricks, Mrs. Edward Donat and Mrs. Helen Faith were dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Fern Hendricks in Omaha Wednesday. Douglas Haffke, three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Haffke, who lias been ill since Thursday w a s taken to Chil drens' Memorial Hospital in O niaha Tuesday. He has pneumonia. James Warren left Friday morning for Houston, Minne sota to visit over the New Year holiday with relatives before re turning to his home in Bronx ville, New York. Mr. Warren visited his sisters here, Mrs. Richard Beverage and Mrs. Ed na Boy n ton. Mrs. Matthew Herold of New York City who has been spend ing the past week with Mrs. Henry Herold left for Los Ange les and Tucson. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kuhns and children Gayle Lynn and Howard of Beatrice spent Christ mas with Mrs. Kuhns' parents Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Wheeler. The family were at the Wheeler home Christmas Eve. The Pat tersons joined them for an oys ter supper and Christmas Day the family were entertained. At the Robert Patterson home. Those present were Mrs. Carl Halter of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Beverage left early Sun day morning for Colgate Uni versity in Hamilton,, New York where he is n senior. Bob spent two weeks visiting over the holi days with his family and frcinds. Henry Thiele received word his brother, Frank Thiele of Syracuse, entered a Lincoln hos pital Monday and underwent surgery Tuesday for a kidney in fection. Mr. and Mrs. Edward M. Egenbcrger, Mr. and Mrs. Ed E. Egenberger and son Jeffrey, Mrs. H. M. Johnson were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kelly Wed- lastic-Ansco Traveling Salon, now on view here each day. These Traveling Salons are be ing exhibited in hundreds of junior and senior high schools across the nation from October, I960 through May, Preliminary j'udging of the photographs took place in 31 regional competitions through out the U. S. Winners were forwarded to New York City, where a panel of experts made the final selections. Awards oj $100, S30, and $25 were made in each of. 15 different classifica tions, including color. These prizes were doubled when Anseo film was used in taking the award-winning picture and ad ditional awards were given when a Sylvania Blue Dot flashbulb was used. Chairman for the panel of judges was Jacob Deschin, Pho tography Editor of The New York Times. Judges included Bruce Downes, Publisher, Pop ular Photography; Arthur Roth stein, Director of Photography, Look Magazine; Ed Hannigan, Editor, U. S. Camera; Ralph Miller Photography Editor, New York World Telegram & Sun; Irving Desfor, nationally syndicated photo columnist; Wil lard D. Morgan.
