r THE I'LATTSMOUTH JOURNAL PAGE FOUR Thursday, November 3, 1960 Rocking of Road Is Topic again Some of the strongest lang uage ever heard in the Cass County Commission rooms in the Courthouse here was hurled at District One Commissioner W. F. Nolte Tuesday during the Commission's regular meeting. Taking Nolte to task for what he labeled "gossip'1 about cir cumstances surrounding rock ing of a road in the area about halfway between here and Louisville, was Maurice Deca booter. Decabooter said Nolte had unfairly criticized him in state ments published in a newspaper (not this one) and had 'spread" a statement about his IDeca booter's) private business. Nolte replied that he had taken issue with the rocking of the road to a place Decabooter formerly owned and where he - fed cattle because of 'irregular procedure" in applying the rock. The Incident had been the subject for a delegation's in quiry of the Commission previ ously. Nolte said he had repeated a statement about Decabooter but that he had had the informa tion direct from the person con cerned in a business matter. Decabooter said the statement was not true and later said the person Nolte mentioned had denied it. The rocking in question was done last year, the cattle feed er said in a legitimate way. He had wanted his drive rocked and asked County Highway Superintendent Fred Clark a bout it. The rock was .applied by the county and a bill was sent which, Decabooter said, he promptly paid. Nolte said this was improper procedure. The money, though received, could not be respent by the Commission because it was not a budgeted fund. Still, he said, the expenditure came out of the current road funds. Decabooter said he had sold his place and moved his cattle feeding operation to Sarpy County, because of the incident about which he complained. At one point Commislon Chairman Melvin Todd said he felt the Commission owed De cabooter an apology for "some of the statements that have come out of here." No proposal to make a formal apology was made, however. Also appearing at the meet ing was John Dietl of Nehawka who criticized Nolte for what he called "not keeping his word" about Intentions concerning the Weeping Water road. ', Nolte said he had done his best to further county road pro jects in the face of what he called "unreasonable demands for right-of-way" along the Weeping Water road. Commissioner Herman Borne meier said he felt Nolte had "batle us all the way on this Weeping Water federal match ing project." Throughout the 45-minute discussion, Nolte remained calm despite the words shouted at him and maintained that "im proper procedure" in rocking the road prompted him to intervene.
