Bogus Check Passer Caught A man wanted in three dif ferent states on bogus checks was arrested Tuesday afternoon near Union by State Patrolman Haroid Legrade. The man with many aliases is Richard Thomas Scott, 36 most recently of Belleville, 111. Scott was proceeding north on 75 in a car which he had earlier in the day purchased at St. Louis, Mo., with a bogus check when State Trooper Legrade stopped1 him to check out "in transit" plates on the car. Find ing two sets of identification cards on Scott he was brought in and turned over to Sheriff Tom Solomon. Scott admitted he was wanted in three states on check charges. R. J. Dobson, Chief of police at Belleville, is enroute here for the man. Solomon said Scott also violat ed federal laws when he crossed the state line with a vehicle pur chased with a bogus check. V... ... Sheriff Says The person responsible for passing forged checks in Platts mouth Aug. 16 in the amount of $63.29 each is known, according to Sheriff Tom Solomon. The man is believed to be a parole violator and is wanted In many states. In February the man obtained a book of 500 per sonalized checks at a Lincoln bank after depositing two bogus checks in the amounts of $200 and $300 on a Kansas Bank. Since then he has been passing the checks in a number of cities. FBI Agents who took over the case were in Plattsmouth Tues day to interview the stores that took the checks. The man also passed 10 checks in Otoe County and a number in Wahoo on the same date. 43 CRAYON PENCILS Ditching Truck Saves Driver A man who chose to drive his tractor trailer loaded with crush ed rock into a deep ravine and into the Louisville sewer outlet instead of hitting a passing frei ght head on, came out without a mark .Tuesday. Daniel L. Giebelhaus of Lin coln told Sheriff Tom Solomon that as he approached the rail road crossing of State 50 near Louisville Tuesday afternoon Ik saw a freight on the tracks. He said he applied brakes but they would not hold, so he took the ditch. The truck received major damage and sewer outlets were ! torn open. S. highway 6 three miles southwest of Greenwood was closed to heavy truck travel late Monday after a pier in the brid ge over Camp Creek settled a bout six inches creating a large bump in the roadbed. State Maintenance Engineer John McMeekin directed heavy trucks between Lincoln and Omaha use U. S. 77 to Wahoo or U. S. 34 to Uniom McMeekin said that the pier had apparently been undermin ed by water, but that the creek level was still too high for a thorough inspection.
