Elm Leaf Beetle Browns Foliage LINCOLN Elm leaf beetles have been reported in Douglas and Nemaha counties which skeletonize emi leaves and, in severe cases, can cause the fol iage to- turn brown. The larvae are about one-half inch long, yellowish in color with dark spots and strips, states Rob ert! E. Roselle, Extension ento mologist at the College of Agri culture. The Elm leaf beetle can be controlled with a mixture of 1 quart of 25 per cent DDT em ulsifiable concentrate and l'i pints of 57 per cent malathion ' emulsifiable concentrate in 10Q gallons of water. Arsenate of lead also may be used at the rate of 4 pounds to 100 gallons of water. The Omaha city forester re ports good control of the beetle with a mixture of DDT and ar senate of lead. TOMBSTONE TERRITORY Cincinnati Fifteen pet dogs will some day have $100 grave markers under the will of their late owner. The bequest was listed in the will of Mrs. Beatrice Barber, of Cincinnati. She also specified that a monument worth $300 be bought for her own grave. The Royal Neighbors had a meeting of the officers of the j Cass-Sarpy bi-county convention and selected Sept. 8 as the day for the annual meeting to be held in Louisville. Morris Beck spent Tuesday with his aunt, Mrs. Edward Grell, Terry and Larry. Claude Helm suffered an eye injury when a spray gun explod ed in his hands Monday. He was taken to the Methodist hospital in Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Helm visited him at the hospital Friday. A Wiles family reunion was held Sunday at the Roy Wiles farm home near Weeping W'ater. A picnic dinner was served. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Graham and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wiles and Lorl all of Louisville, Mr. and Mrs. Arvin Patton and family, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wiles, Jr., and'. David Wiles. Mr. and Mrs. Lacey McDonald.; of Murdock were Thursday eve ning dinner guests of Mrs. An na Harms and her honseguests, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Harms and children. In the evening Mr. and Mrs. Ted Harms took the Mc Donalds to Omaha to board a train for Seattle, Washington where they will visit relatives for the next six weeks.
