War Dads-Ladies At Union Name Officers, Delegates UNION (Special) The War Dads and Auxiliary met at the Lfglon Hall last Tuesday eve ning. Two donations were made, one to the State President's Fund. Mrs. Leo Roddy was appointed delegate to the State Convention and Mrs. Elmer Patton, Alter nate. Nominating Committee re ported and the following officers were elected: President, Mrs. Clarence Beccard; Vice Presi dent, Mrs. Clvde Cook; Treasur er, Mrs. Earl Herman; Chap lain, Mrs. Ivan Balfour; Ser-neant-at-Arms, M r s. Horace Griffin and Historian, Mrs.. John Christensen. A report was given on the Sun day evening supper at Nebras ka City. Hostesses for the Tuesday eve ning meeting were Mrs. Earl Zorn and Mrs. Elmer Patterson. Union WSCS Has Meeting UNION (Special) The WSCS met at the Church last Thursday with Mrs. Frank And erson and Mrs. Ed Morris as hostesses. There were twenty-two mem bers, Rev. Embree and three young people as guests, present. Mrs. Cross led the prayer ser vice and the devotions during which time Cathy Stine sang a solo accompanied by Iva Mou- gey. Mrs. Todd had charge of the lesson on needs of children In which readings were used as follows: Mrs. Grunwald, 'Hospit als and Clinics"; Mrs. Morris, "Educational Institutions"; Mrs. Balfour "Community Centers"; Mrs. Pike "Town and Country Work"; Mrs. Exline "Children's Homes"; Mrs. Stine "Bethlem in Richmond" and Mrs. Todd "The Church's ResDonsibility for the Disturbed Child". Refreshments were served by the hostesses- John Van Horns Honored on 50th Anniversary WEEPING WATER (Special) Mr. and Mrs. John Van Horn were honored on Sunday at a family dinner for their golden wedding anniversary. Ice cream and the anniversary cakes, baked by their daughter Mrs. Ben Hesse!, were served in the afternoon. Those present for the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hes sel of Grand Island, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hessell and Bruce of Aurora, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Kobler of Louisville, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Van Horn and fam ily and Sharon and Shirley Up ton. Mrs. Mae May of Kingsburg, Calif., and Mrs. Mildred Wells of Weingarten, Mo., were un able to be present for their par ent's anniversary dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Knapp and family left for Lake Okoboji lor a vacation. Newt Griswold, Ruth Baur and Jennie Mulliner of Lincoln .pent Sunday afternoon at the Orel Lupardus home. They also called on your reporter. The Ruge reunion was held at the school auditorium Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Huge and family of Chicago at tended and also visited other relatives during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kupke of Greeley, Colo., spent the week visiting relatives and friends. They also attended the Stohlman reunion which was held at Emanuel Lutheran Church at Louisville Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kupke were Sunday evening callers at the Walter Thimgahn home. Church Calendar of Trinity Lutheran Church: Walther Lea que Convention its being held in Lincoln this weekend; Sun day school next Sunday at 9 a.m.; Church services at 10 a.m.; Adult Bible class will be resumed Sept. 4; The Northern, Nebr. District Convention will be held at Concordia Teachers College, Seward August 22-26. Delegates are W. H. Gakemeier and Louis Kupke. Pastor Boer ger also plans to attend. This convention. Mr, and Mrs. Jim Miller spent Monday at Central City house hunting. They plan to move there in the near future. Mr. Miller has accepted a job there. The following members of the mills family held a picnic at Sutton Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mills. Mr. and Mrs.' Dave Mills of York; Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Mills and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dickmeyer and family of Omaha. Judy Mills remained for a week's visit. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rase left for Canada to spend a week or 10 days visiting Mr. Rase's mother. Live-Wires 4-H Placings Listed GREENWOOD (Special) ' Five members of Live-Wire 4-H club received awards at Cass County Fair held at Weeping Water. Gary Knudsen received blue on first aid kit; Rodney Knud sen, reds on demonstration, secretary book and first aid kit, James Leadabrand, red on dem onstration and white on first aid kit; and Molly Greene, reds on demonstration, tray, hot dish mat and white on dish towel. The chancel - was appointea with cathedral candles and ar rangements of pink shasta daisies and white gladoli. Dr. Bert L. Story of Lincoln read the marriaee lines and Mrs. Dwight Clements played the wedding music. She was accom panied on the piano by Mr. Jerry Hohnbaum of Lincoln, in an organ piano duet. Robert McMeen Lincoln was the vocal soloist. Wearing alike frocks of pink taffeta with overskirts of em broidered nvlon and satin cum- berbund and bows the attendants were Mrs. Dale Maschmann ot Deshler who was her sisters matron of honor, and brides maids, Miss Linda Crewdson, sister of the groom; Miss Donna Miller and Miss Joyce Miller. Each wore a hair bandeau of pink flowers and net and each carried a white fan ornamented with florets of gladioli. Wearing white robes, Mmes. Jerry Pointer of Avoca and El don Troth of Graham Mo. light ed the candles. Kim Marl Maschmann, niece of the bride, was flower girl and Gary Dank- j leff. son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle i Dankleff was ring bearer. I Roger Harbert of Lincoln, ser ved as best man and seating the ! guests were Jere Mitchell of Elk Creek, Calif.; Hal Strohbehn of Keinbeck, la.; Gary Bacon of Avoca Woman's Club Affiliate of Advisory Board AVOCA (Special) Mrs. Cal vin Carsten, president of the Avoca woman's Club, has been notified that the Club has ful filled all requirements for mem bers and been accepted as a member of the Advisory Board. McLaurln, of Garner, said he is being forced into bank ruptcy because 3,000 patients owe him $50,271.39 for his services. f Crewdson Loop City and Dale Maschmann of Deshler. White silk taffeta and em broidered silk organza were chosen by the bride for her wedding gown. The sculptured bodice of taffeta, designed with a moyenage neckline and brief sleeves, were patterned with embroidered Alencon lace and narrowed to a slender waist beneath which the voluminous skirt of embroidered organaa was completed with wide back panels of taffeta which extend ed into a circular train. A crown of sequins held in place her tiered veil, and her flowers were pink sweetheart roses and stefanotis on a white bible. She carried a white hand kerchief which her grandmoth er had made and carried at her own wedding nearly 60 years ago. Following the reception Mr. Crewdson and his bride left for a honeymoon trip to Colorado, and upon their return will re side at 4645 St. Paul, Lincoln. Both young people are gradu ates of Nebraska Wesleyan Uni versity. Mrs. Crewdson will be a member of the Lincoln public school faculty this year and Mr. Crewdson will be going on to school. They are the guests of Mrs. Lewis Mougey and will spend several days visiting their many friends. Mrs. L. G. Todd returned from Omaha last Tuesday evening, where she had been visiting her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs- Ernest Rathe, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rathe and family and Mr. and Mrs. Norm Hend rix and family. She also visited two cousins, Miss Edna Snell and Mrs. Roy Croft who live in Omaha, also. j Little Susie Mills and Kelly I Finch were visiting the Kinder-; garten department at the Meth-j odist Sunday School last Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hagen are parents of a 5 lb. 14 oz. son, born August 5th at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City. He has been named Kevin Dean. The mother was formally Suzan ne Kendall of Union. Mr- and Mrs. Herman Comer attended a family re-union of relatives and friends at Garland, Nebraska over the last weekend. Jhey returned to Union on Mon ay evening. Mr. and Mrs. Don Wolfe andi daughters Jan and Mary left Union Aug. 6 for an extended vacation. They first visited Mr. and Mrs. Ben Neil at Keytes nile, Missouri parents of Mrs. Neit, who had recently return from California. Next stop was at Bolivar, Missouri, where they visited a cousin Mr. and Mrs. John Fahrlander. They re turned to Union on last Monday. The many friends of Russell Easter and Miss Pearl Bramblet were very happy to learn they were both able to leave St. Mary's Hospital for a few hours, last Sunday, and enjoy a ride to Union. Miss Banning has been in St. Marys for over two years find Russell has been in the hos pital off and on since December of last year. We all hope they will soon be able to enjoy more rides in the near future. WIFE LET HIM JUMP Peoria, 111.
