Mrs. Vincent Rehmeier en tertained at a birthday party in honor of the birthday of her son, Lynn. Sixteen boys from the first grade were guests. Mrs. Byron Dakcr held a par ty at the Baker home, honoring her husband and Wilson Bick ford on their birthdays. The evening was spent playing pino chle. High score prizes were won by Mr. Bickford and Mrs. Harry Potts. Mr. and Mrs. Fran cis Thoren won the low score prizes. Mr. and Mrs. Orval Wilbur of Falls City were among the call ers of Mr. and Mrs. T. II. Han Ian on Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Pilfold and daughters were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Bates and family of Lincoln. Mr. and MrsN Carl Day were Monday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lugene Day. They all enjoyed seeing the irises at the Ray Norris home. Jack Norris of Columbus was a Friday morning guest for breakfast at the Ray Norris home. Ronald Patterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. La Neil Patterson, fractured a bone in hn arm Monday while the fifth grade class and the teacher. Mrs. Glen Dimmitt were on the class picnic. His prandmother. Mrs. John Johnson had the same misfortune the following day. She fell over a stump In her yard and also fractured a bone in her arm. David Anderson who fractured a bone in his arm is still wearing a east. Mr. and Mrs. David Olive and Mark of Madison, Wisconsin are visiting for a week with his mother, Mrs. B. A. Olive. Mr. Olive will return to Wisconsin to receive his doctor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Olive and Mark will move to Lincoln this summer and Mr. Olive will teach in the College of. F. Weideman and family. He has been stationed at the Brookley Airforce Base at Mobile, Ala bama .He will return to the Wil liam Air Force Base in Arizona and from there he will go to Italy. Mrs. C. Victor Schwarz was an afternoon caller. Sunday, June 5 will be the an nual picnic and reunion of old friends at the Ray Norris home five miles southeast of Weeping Water. This will be the 29th year the Norris's have been hosts to this happy gathering on their lawn. They wish to say that the outdoors is big and ev eryone is welcome to attend. Those who have not been ab sent or tardy this year in high school were Georgia Ludwlck, John Meeske and Charlene Thoren, freshmen: Tom Dom ingo and Janice Holt, soph omores and Wayne Thoren, Junior . M-Sgt. Richard Matteson who has been in Germany for some time has been able to find hous ing for his family and they will join him by June 3rd. Mrs. Mat teson is the former Jean John son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Johnson. They will make their home in Germany for three years. Phyllis Hohman was a Mon day overnight guest of Carol Nickels. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wise man attended graduation exer cies for their niece, Linda Nor ton at Imperial. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Har lan Norton. Mr. and Mrs. Wise man also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Palmer at Bridge port and the Charles and Neil Barbour homes at Scottsbluff. Mrs. Stanley Miller entertain ed at a birthday party in honor of the third birthday of her daughter Kelly. The executive meeting of the Christian Women's Fellowship was held on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Lynn Rothe, president. Plans were made for the coming year. Those attend ing were Mrs. Henry Knaup, Mrs. Charles Freeman, Mrs. I Victor Schwarz and children, Mrs. William Klemme, Mrs. Leo Christensen and Mrs. Edward Van Horn. They came for the graduation exercises in which Ellen Rhodes was a grad uate. Mrs. Ed Freeman and Mrs. Edward Van Horn were Friday guests of Mrs. Raymond Free man and family. 4-H Club Week June 7-10 at UN LINCOLN The College of Agriculture will be host to 300 Nebraska youth named as del egates to State 4-H Club Week June 7-10. Theme for the traditional ev ent will be "Live, Learn, Serve Through 4-H." The theme will be carried out through a series of special interest learnshops ranging' from "What To Wear When" to "World Wide Friends." In addition to activities on the College campus, those attend ing will tour the State Capitol Building where they will meet Gov. Ralph Brooks. While touring the Capitol Building they will hear two talks. Elton. Lux, state leader of finance and personnel, Agricul tural Extension Service, will discuss "Careers in Public Ser vice." Senator Roman Hruska will discuss "How Laws Are Made." Career opportunities will be featured during the final day of 4-H Club Week when delegates will visit some 50 different bus inesses and industries in Omaha. Commencement For 23 Students At Weeping Water WEEPING WATER (Special) Commencement was held in the school auditorium on Thurs day evening with a very large crowd attending. "Are We in Orbit" was an ad dress given by Dr. W. C. Meier henry of the University of Nebr aska. Arthur F. Thomsen, superin tendent, presented the scholar ships to the following: valedic torian, Linda Parson and salu tatorlan, Connie Rector. Thomsen also announced that two of the Juniors were now in the National Honor Society, Kathryn Keplinger and Bonnie Noble. Wilson Bickford, President of the Board of Education, gave a tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Thom sen and his family. They are leaving Weeping Water after he has been superintendent for six years. Under Mr. Thomsen's admin istration, the school redistrict- ing program was formed and eight schools were taken into the Weeping Water school, the hot lunch program, one of the best in the state was started, the Bus service in going very good with four buses and one small bus, the homemaking depart ment started four years ago and many other things have been ac complished these past six years. Rev. C. W. Severn gave the invocation. Ruth Wiles, accomp anied by Mary Alice Wood, sang. The Class History was given by Larry Hanson, presi dent of the senior class. The following awards were given to the seniors: citizenship awards to Connie Rector and James Meisinger; DAR award to Linda Parson; commercial awards to the following Rob erta Rathe, Donald Hudson, Donald Groesser, Larry Hanson, Velda Lee, Karen Mather, Rae Ellen Rhodes, Linda Parson, Karen Eidenmiller, Janice Shee han, Helen Mather, James Mei singer, Connie Rector, Dorothy Massoth and Doris Rodaway. City MURDOCK (Special i Twelve members of the Four Square Club drove to Nebraska City May 26. They had a guided tour through the canning factory and garment factory, had lunch at a cafe, visited the shirt factory. Arbor Lodge Park and Stein hart Park. Scout Meetings at Weeping Water WEEPING WATER (Special) The Boy Scouts held their meeting and Court of Honor Monday evening in the Ameri can Legion Hall. This was Mother's night and 12 mothers attended. It was announced that the scouts would take part in the Memorial Day services. The Court of Honor was for the second class scouts. Following the meeting relay races were held. The Cub Scouts held their Pack meeting on Wednesday evening in the Legion Hall with a good crowd attending. Sigvald Jensen gave the fol lowing awards: Bear badge, gold and silver arrow, John Van Horn: wolf badge, Jerry Hains: Bear- badge and gold arrow, Gerry Doyle, wolf badge, David Horn, silver arrow, Timmy Wade; gold arrow, Timmy Michelsen; Lion badge, gold and silver arrow, Dale Parson; den ner an dassistant denner stripe, David Friesell and John Cap pen. Eric Aronson and Dale Parson were presented their Webelos badge and given a Scout knife. Four Scouts, Dallas Wade, Bob Ratliff, Mike and Brian Fitzpat- rick gave the boys Scout neckerchiefs and welcomed them into Scouting. Following the meeting three dens presented skits on "Showboat." A showboat was in the background. Den 1 present ed their part in the program on "Southern Music and Acro bats"; .Den 2, "Alabama Jub ilee" and Den 3, "Down on the Levee". The mothers were each given a corsage as they came in to the meeting by the den mothers. Mrs. Marvin Wade and Mrs. Carroll Wright are the new den mothers of Den 2. Union Items Mrs. L. C. Todd Phone 2441 AF 3-c Thomas Anderson and AF 3-c Lorin Arnold stationed at Wichita, Kansas Air Force Base came to Union on Friday evening where they were guests of the grandparents of Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson. On Sunday the several Anderson families honored the boys by having a family picnic at Stein hart Park at Nebraska City. The boys returned to their Air Base Station on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Griffin had the following guests over the Memorial Day weekend: Mr. and Mrs. Terry Arnold were Saturday night guests. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schantz, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy McFarland were Sunday guests and Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie McKelvey and little daughter, Robin Rae were Mon day supper guests. These guests were all from Lincoln. Tom Pike left last Thursday for Ft. Dix, New Jersey where he will be sent overseas in a short time. Mr. and Mrs. Zorn spent last Monday visiting friends in Au burn and Falls City. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Desmond of Denver, Colorado and 1st Lt Louis Crunk and family of Ogden, Kansas came Thursday evening and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Martin. They came to be able to attend the graduation exercises at Peru on Friday evening, as Mrs. George Martin was one of the graduates to receive her degree that eve ning. They returned to their homes on Monday afternoon. On Sunday- the Martin and Crunk families honored Don Martin on his birthday that day by having a family picnic at John Brown's Park at Nebraska City. Sunday evening callers at the Martin home, were Mr. and Mrs. John McQuin and son j Johnny of Bellevue. Monday j callers at the Martin home were I Mrs. Lee Fenton, Jr. an dchild- ren of Nebraska City. Mrs. Robert Reed and daugh ter Kimberly of Omaha are spending the next three weeks in Union with Mrs. Reed's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Zorn. Later Mrs. Reed will move to Grand Island after her visit in Union. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Ganaway and family left last Saturday for Shelton, Missouri where they will be visiting Mrs. Ganaway's parents. Later they will spend some time in Dunnegan, Mis souri where they will visit Mr. Ganaway's parents. They will be gone three weeks. Guests at the John Foster home last Monday were Mrs. Leon Richard and daughter Diane Houston. Omaha; Mrs Loren Todd and daughters, Shirley and Pat of Murray, Mrs. Lewis Mougey and Mr. Rube Foster. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stock had as their Sunday dinner guests, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Winkler and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eckery of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Blum spent Sunday afternoon in Omaha visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hendrlck son are the parents of a baby girl born at Bryan Memorial Hospital Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schmidt spent Tuesday in Omaha. Mrs. Schmidt was taking care of her parents' graves. Mr. and Mrs. Milow Frizbee of Washington State were visit ing relatives and friends in Mur dock this week. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rice of Lincoln spent the Memorial weekend at the home of Mrs. Rice's mother, Mrs. Ella C. Gakemeier. The Bob Gakemeier family were also Sunday din ner and supper guests. A picnic was enjoyed Memorial clay, and a trip to the f isheries after lunch. Picnic guests Memorial day at the Orel Lupardus home were Nute Griswald and Ruth Baur of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. John Heil of Louisville spent a week visiting at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Herman Wendt and hus band Herman. Rev. and Mrs. John Boerger left Tuesday morning for St. ' Louis, Mo. where Rev. Boerger 1 will attend an Alumni Banquet of his 40th year in the ministry. From there they will go to Ra-! cine, Wis. to attend a wedding of a neice. Bible School opened Monday, May 30 at EUB Church for 2 weeks. Trinity Lutheran Bible school Murdock will open June 6 for two weeks. Surgery for Eagle Lad EAGLE Larry Yabsley, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Yabs ley, Eagle, underwent major surgery Tuesday at Lincoln General Hospital. The following were elected cheerleaders for the next year: Janice Domingo, Linda Lane, Carolyn Thorns, Kathy Kepling er and Judy Sheehan. Pep Club Girls and their sponsors, Mrs. Florence Paap and Kenneth Wiles had a picnic Monday evening at the Peter Pan Park In Lincoln. After the picnic they attended a show in Lincoln. Murdock Postmaster Completes Inspection MURDOCK (Special) Post Master Verle Bronkow of Mur dock, having made his annual official inspection of rural mail boxes, has found many boxes which "deserve commendation," and also many which "show ir regularities in regard to postal regulation." Notices were sent, both of "commendation," and about "ir regularities," and the Postmas ter hopes to have the "un divided support" of all patrons in the "clean-up and paint-up" campaign for this year. The name can be painted on both sides of the mailbox if wished. Bronkow says 75 commenda tion notices were sent to patrons here for their rural mail box installation. Miss Knaup on Advisory Board At University Roberta Knaup, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Knaup, Weeping Water, was recently elected one of two members from her class to the Business Admin istration Student Advisory board at the University of Nebraska. Miss Knaup will be a senior this fall in the College of Busi ness Administration. She was also elected publicity chairman-historian of Phi Chi Thcta, national business fratern ity for women. Rhodes Gets Letter Phil Rhodes of Weeping Water this year earned his second let ter in track at Peru State Teach ers College. He was one of 15 getting track letters. He is a high jumper.
