In an introduction in a let ter of recommendation to the Council and Board of Public works, the Omaha firm Monday night advised against any alter nate plan other' than a gravity flow system. It said an original saving In construction cost for a system in which sewage is pumped would more than be absorbed in the perpetual cost of pumping. The saving would be about $17,000 in construction cost but the cost of pumping annually would be $1,330 and the fixed cost to be amortized Over 20 years on the more costly grav ity flow system would be $1,390. The engineers' recommenda tion: 1. The outlet sewer and sew age disposal plant should be constructed in lieu of any alter nate plan. 2. The project should be split into sewer and plant sections to possibly secure bidding from specialized contractors. 3. The construction cost esti mate should be changed to $104,290 for sewer construction and $182,900 for plant construc tion. 4. Necessary legal procedure be completed to incorporate an estimated project cost total of $317,950. . 5. The project be readvertised for letting . as soon as ground waier conditions are determined favorable (the plant would be located on the river bottom east of lower Main Street about halfway to the river). 6. The city make immediate application for an increase in federal funds based upon a total project cost of $317,950; 30 per cent participation would total $94,770, leaving $223,180 for city financing. The federal grant already allocated is $73, 000. Grading Authorized By City Council The City Council Monday! night authorized grading of! Avenue C in vicinity of 22nd Street so residents can apply crushed rock. Hiring of an engineer to set the property lines along the street was also authorized. Rolland Aldrich is to do the grading at a cost not to exceed $200. I want- to thank my friends and supporters in the recent Primary Election for their vote and support. Thank you each and every one.
