Germany of - " Interest Here Wedding announcement have lueii received by Plattsmouth piuple of the ceremony of Mary Irene Iiischerl and Norman Duliald Maker toriner residents The couple was wed April 23 at three o'clock in the afternoon at the I'imasens Post Chapel in Germany by the United States Army Chaplain of that post. A reception followed at the home the bridegroom had pre pared for the bride at Pimusen, Germany. Mr. Baker is making his car eer In the United States Army, having served twelve years, and in Germany since January. He will be remembered here as a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. William Kraeger having made his home with them since 1934. The bride, is the daughter of Joseph Dlrscherl, former Cuss Countians, more recent resi dents of Omaha. Mr. Dlrscherl accompanied hi.s daughter to Germany for the wedding. The bridegroom is the nephew of Mrs;.- ' Arthur Ot'e, Clarence I.edijjvay, Mrs. Andy Snyder, Mi.,. Kdith Haase and Mrs. William Kracger, all of this city. R. R. Furse is in Alma this week trying his luck in catching some Walleye. Mrs. Furse is in Lincoln staying with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ron L. Furse, while Ron L. Devotions were given by Mrs. Paul Keil from an article by Dr. Wernher Von Hraun entitled "Immortality." The lesson was presented by Mrs. John Rishel completing the study book, "The Way in Africa" by Dr. George Carpenter. The rummage sale will be held April 29 in the Lapidus building. A request has been received from the Methodist Hospital Housekeeping department for any and all rags. Secret pals will be revealed at our May meeting and new names will be drawn tor the coming year. Election of officers was held with the following officers elec ted: Chairman, Mrs. Charley Christensen; v i c e-chairman, Mrs. Donald Grove; treasurer, Mrs. Delmont Heedum and sec retary, Mrs. Paul Keil. The meeting adjourned, after which a game was conducted by Mrs. Donald Grove. Mrs. Pulton Harris was the prize winner. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Karl Ogg, Mrs. Marvin Welsh and Mrs. Fred Tesch. Jackman To Speak At Elm wood on Memorial Day ELMWOOD (Special) Mem orial Day Speaker here will be Mr. Melvin Jackman, Superin tendent of schools at Palisade. He was chosen by Legion Post 247 of Elm wood. Jackman graduated from Elmwood High School in 1922. After attending the University of Nebraska, he taught 3 years in Nebraska schools, served two years in the navy, then finished school at the University where he received a B. S. and M. A. degrees. He also has a degree from Harvard. In 1936, he became manager in the advertising department of the Pennsylvania Railroad. The Jackman family is well known here, having lived at Louisville and Elmwood. Mrs. Gardner Burned In Home Accident Mrs. Fred Gardner was sever ely burned Wednesday morning at the Joe Loper home where she is employed. Mrs. Gardner was cooking stew in a pressure cooker, and not acquainted with its mechanism was operating it improperly. She suffered burns on the face, the pressure breaking her glasses; aUo suffering third de gree burns on her right arm. She received medication and dressings at a local doctor's of fice and while the burns are painful is getting along fine. TRINITY LUTHERAN Murdock, Nebr. Rev. John F. ENGAGKMENT Mrs. Edith Haase announces the engage ment of her daughter, Miss Mar tha to Mr. Gene Baumgart, son of Mrs. Kathrine Baumgart. Miss Haase Is employed by the Lin coln Bell Telephone and -Telegraph Company of Plattsmouth. Her fiance' is employed by West ern Electric of Omaha. No de finite date has been set for the wedding. Bridal Showers Honor Miss Koubek This past month a number of bridal showers have honored Miss Joann Koubek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Kou bek. Honored at a dinner and mis cellaneous shower at Omaha restaurant on April 6 given by the office girls, Miss Koubek re ceied many lovely gifts. A personnal shower was given at the home of Mrs. David Frans Aprill 22: Games were played and prizes were awarded to Mrs. Leonard Davey, Mrs. Bert Mason and Mrs. Frank J. Kou bek. The gifts were placed un der a white umbrella and later opened by the bride-to-be. Re freshments were served by the hostess Joan Frans. to the many friends and classmates of Miss Koubek. Mrs. John V. Svoboda, Miss Margaret Svoboda, Mrs. Ken neth Meisinger and Miss Mari lyn Koubek were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower Sunday afternoon honoring the bride elect. The gift table was covered with a blue and white shower table cloth centered with a lar ge blue umbrella, over which hung two pink lacy bells. The afternoon was spent visiting and playing games; prizes were aw arded to many of the guests at tending. The shower of beauti ful gifts were opened by the bride elect, assisted by her at tendants. ' An evening luncheon was serv ed by the hostesses to the sixty relatives and close friends at tending the shower. Miss Koubek will be married to Mr. Donald Pechacek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pech acek of Omaha May 7 at Holy Rosary church. Rotary Club Exposed To Some Education The Plattsmouth Rotary Club Tuesday noon was exposed to some education. Giving the program at the regular meeting at the Lions Community Building were young men who have been high school Rotarians of the month this club year. Rotarians were given lectures on science, mathematics, Eng lish and social studies and then took a brief examination. Re sults were not made known, by reauest. Keenan Eitihe served as "principal" for the meeting and these teams gave the lectures and examination: science Francis Lebens, Charles Toman and Larry Christenson; mathe matics Larry Toothaker and Neil Cole; English Albert Wet enkamp and Gary Jenkins; so cial studies Kenny Price and Dave Albert. Wayne Rodehorst, high school principal, was the club's pro gram chairman for the day. BIRTHS - Son Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dunn, 1065 Sells Ave., West, Columbus. Ohio, are parents of a 7 lbs. 6 oz. son born April 27. The cou ple has another child, Christine Mrs. Dunn is the former Janis Schmidtmann. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William Schmidt mann of this city and Mrs. Reed Dunn of Findlay, Ohio. Mrs. H. E. Becker of this city the maternal great grandmother. Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tiekot ter are parents of a 6 lbs. 14 oz. daughter born April 13. She has been named Terry Ann. Grand parents are Mrs. Louis Tlekotter of Plattsmouth and Mrs. William Krause of Lincoln. The couple has three other children. Friday to visit their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Harris The Harris' sons, Patrick and Mike are students at the Univer sity of Missouri at Columbia Patrick was married last year. The Bierls report the winter wheat in that section looks about the same in Nebraska. They re turned home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Dunham, Sally and Susan of Stanton, for mer Plattsmuoth residents, were here Sunday attending services at the First Presbyter ian Church. They were guests of Reverend and Mrs. Keith Delap and family, and also vis ited their son, Tom Dunham who lives here. Marion Tucker of Nehawka was a visitor In the city Tuesday to look after some matters of business at the court house and visiting with friends. Mr. and Mrs. John H. Mr. and Mrs. George McFad den of Lincoln attended the senior class play and were over night guests of the Ellis Lacys. Kenneth Bauer of Lincoln, nephew of the Lacys returned home Monday from a Lincoln hospital where he had knee sur gery. Mrs. F. O. Sand was a weekend guest at the Ernest Nabity home at Chapman. She accompanied Mrs. George Bischof who attend ed a War Dads Auxiliary coun cil meeting in Grand Island. The Methodists had a covered dish supper at the church Tues day evening which was follow ed by an official board meet ing. Dianne Ross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Ross, was nine years old on Arbor Day. Her bir thday supper guests were Mr. and Mrs. Olin Morris and David, Murray; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mor ris, Union; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Ross, Henry Ross and Dan Anderson. Dianne took treats to her school-mates Friday. Mrs. Vance Balfour attended the funeral services of Mrs. F. H. Willis in Lincoln Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Willis owned the Lincoln Book store and were well known to Ne hawka people. CARLOAD OF APPLIANCES UNLOADED HERE A carload of appliances was recently unloaded in Platts mouth by Ray and John's Sales Service. It is claimed by them that this is fhe first time that such a large number of appliances have been purchased locally for a selling event. Lam mers, Lexington, Nebraska, of the engagement of their daugh ter, Mary Ann, to Bernard Matt hies, son of Mrs. Mary Matthies, Ohiowa, Nebraska. Miss Lam mers was graduated from the University of Nebraska where 6he was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Mr. Matthies was gra duated from Doane College, Crete, Nebraska where he was a member of Sigma Phi Theta Fraternity. Both are teachers at Plattsmouth High School. Fred Hirz who had been a patient at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha for the past month returned home Sunday, and is getting along satisfactorily. Harry D. Royal of Lincoln, was a visitor in the city Tuesday to visit old friends for a few hours. He reports that his wife has Det'ri a patient in the Lin coln General hospital, but is much improved and expects to be dismissed this week. Attending the Presbytery at the First Presbyterian Church in Panama Tuesday were the Reverend Keith Delap, pastor, and Chris Bulin, elder represen tative of Plattsmouth's Church; and Reverend Joseph Barr and Reverend Howard Hutchman of the Murray Presbyterian Chur ch. John Schreiner was in Alli ance last week to visit his moth er. Enroute home he stopped at Grand Island Monday and Tues day to attend the annual con vention of the Nebraska Pharma ceutical Association. Mrs. Schr einer joined him on Tuesday to attend the banquet. They return ed home Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Claus spent Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thiele on South 9th. George ' Wiles of Weeping Water was a visitor in Platts mouth Wednesday and while here was a caller at the Journal to renew his subscription to the paper. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Feldhousen were in Grand Island to attend the annual convention of the Nebraska Pharmaceutical As soqiation meeting which was Monday and Tuesday. Mrs. R. B. Keller and Mrs. L. w. Egenberger attended the District 13 Garden Club Conven tion Tuesday in Omaha. They naa mncn at the Birchwood Club and heard a program on flower arrangements and" dem onstrations of flower arranging by Mrs. E. Sommer of Lincoln. Mrs. Fred Essert and Mrs. Clarence Akeson representing the Navy Mothers Club of Platts mouth attended a luncheon, Tuesday given by the Fort Oma ha Navy Mothers. Memorial Services were held in the after noon. The affair was a Com mander and Adjutant get-acquainted party. A-2c Nick Giliam is at the Base Hospital at Offutt Field, being treated for back injuries incur red Sunday while engaged in work at his home here. Ivan Taylor entered St. Josenh Hospital in Omaha last week for observation. He is in room 807 and will probably be at the hos pital another week. Dinner guests Wednesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Harms and Sharon were Mr. and Mrs. Dale Abra ham and sons from Omaha. Mrs. Abraham is a sister of Mr. Harms. Friendly Neighbor Club at Wehrman's MURDOCK (Special) The Friendley Neighbor Club met at the home of Mrs. Louis Wehr nian April 20 for the regular meeting. Thirteen members were present. Two members had died since the last meeting, Viola Everett and Mrs. Ida Thimgan. Margaret Zierott and Dorothy Mills had charge of entertain ment. A discussion was held for the next meeting and a trip to Omaha was planned to tour sev eral places of interest. Mrs. Wehrman served lunch. Mrs. Dorothy Mills, reporter. Murdock High Students Travel MURDOCK (Special) School bus driver Earl Knapp took the puplis of the Murdock Music department to Wahoo Friday morning where they took part in the District Music Contest. Friday evening the Seniors left from Ashland for Chicago. They will return home Sunday morning and be entertained for breakfast with Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hall of Elmwood. Hall is their sponsor.
