EDITORIALS British Stress Education The British trovernment has announc ed that British children will be required to attend school through the age of sixteen in the future. For many years, British children were only educated through their fifteenth year. The announcement from London is an obvious indication that the British, like so many Americans, are concerned with the. challenge of the times in education, in science, and in so many other fields. Kven though the British system is considered to be far superior to the Ameri can educational system, year for year anil ntudent for student, by age, the British are lengthening-- their schooling by one year. Other than much talk, and a series of arti cles, and a resulting emphasis on science courses, the Amercian school system has changed relatively little in the face of the communist challenge. It would be a tragic departure from our traditional way of life for our school system to be revamped along the lines of a twelve-month year. The traditional sum mer holiday would be lost, and much of the :ybtrth's development, that area which is not directly concerned with academic work, would perhaps suffer. Nonetheless, stiffer curriculums, bet ter school systems better teachers and a generally-improved school system is a "must" in the United States if our educa tional process is to keep pace with that in communist Russia. Patriotic Americans may not like to think that the Russian system is superior to that in the United States, or that the average school system in Europe is superior, but nevertheless these are facts. It would be much better to do some thing about it, before we are suffering serious consequences, than to. exhibit false pride by depreciating other systems. w.ww.v,,.v.vE,v,v,.v.v .v...v................,..,.-.-,,,,.-...v Down Memory Lane 20 YEARS ACO Civilian Conservation No. 751 of Weeping Water observed the ' seventh anniversary of the establishing of the Corps over the nation by holding' "open house" at the camp.
