Twenty-seven members and I'.ue.'its re prt.v etit. The highlight of the afternoon was a hat demonstration given by Mrs. Win. Hoyle of Platts moii:ii. Mrs. Hoyle who has a decree in liomemaking from the University of Virginia, also spent three years in Japan with her Air Force husband where she reeieved a decree in flower arranging. Her demonstration was interesting, beginning with the frame and working every de tail to the last flower. Mrs. Tom Meisineer presided at the business meeting. Fifteen members answered roll call by naming the place of their birth. Mrs. Kalph llild reported the tour is to be May 19. We are to meet at I'lattsmouth at 11 a.m. We will have lunch at the SAC Headquarters and tour the un derground. Nine members are planning to attend the Spring Tea ut Weeping Water May 3. It was moved and carried that we donate to the Heart Fund and the Red Cross. Serving; at the tea table were president Mrs. Tom Meisinger and our former president and now the North Fast Group Chairman, Mrs. Robert Kiser. Mrs. I.yle Hild presided at the pnest book. Mrs. John Hild was hostess assisting her were Mrs. Frank Topliff and Mrs. Joe Lo chman. Next meeting will be at the horn eof Mrs. Lyle Hild, May 10. Mrs. Joe Lockman, re porter. The Sattler ambulance Wed nesday took Elmer Lohnes of this city to the Methodist hospit al in Omaha where he will un dergo treatment. He is in room 446. It was voted to give, a silver offering to the Crippled child ren's Fund. Plans for "Guest Day," the next regular Club Day Meeting, were made. Mrs. L. B. Mougey will have charge of the program on mus ic. In the absence of the leader, Mrs. nosh la Roddy, Mrs. John Christensen and Mrs. Mougey conducted a lesson on "birds" in which Mrs. Ruth Stine won the prize in a guessing game on birds. Farlier in the meeting, roll call had been answered by each member bringing a plant for an exchange as her name was called. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. Gamma Chapter at McLean Home In Bellevue Gamma Chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa teachers honorary Sorority held its April meeting at the new home of Mrs. A. C. McLean, Orchard Heights, Bell evue. Mrs. L. B. Todd, vice presi dent, presided in the absence of Mrs. Dale Gleason, Lincoln. Guests at the meeting were, Helen Krouse, State A.D.K. presiderit, and Ethel McCamely state A.D.K. treasurer. Business taken up included the Grand Island trip May 7 to the state convention. Attention was drawn to the Nuiional bulletin, Kappan in which the local chapter had an article submitted by President Mrs. Dale Gleason. A short discussion was held on the future teachers tea. Election was held and the fol lowing officers accepted: presi dent, Mrs. L. B. Todd; vice president, Margaret Kroese recording secretary, Mrs. Edgar Newton; corresponding sec etary, Mrs. Raymond Haith; treasurer, Mrs. Dale Gleason; chaplain, Mrs. A. C. McLean; sergeant-at-arms. Mrs. Kather ine Sandin, and historion, Mrs. John Alberts. The group -named Mrs. Dale f Gleason as installing officer and Mrs. Katherine Sundin and Mrs. Lloyd Fitch as installing pro gram Chairmen. A Classified Ad in The Journal cost as little as 50 cents. & WALCREEN ACENCY 1 '-", 1 I 1 NFIIAWKA (Special) Cheryl Weik, senior of the Nehawka high school Chapter of Future Ilomemakers of America, was chosen to receive one of the state 10 FIIA scholarships. The scholarship specifies that the recipient will take college train ing to prepare herself to become a liomemaking teacher. Cheryl is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo H'eik of Nehawka. She currently is the 1959-19C0 Ne braska FIIA Publicity Chairman. During her four years as a mem ber of the local FHA, Cheryl has held the offices of secretary, song leader, and degree chair man in the Nehawka Chapter. Seniors Give Play At Weeping Water WEEPING WATER (Special) The Senior Class gave their class play on Monday and Tues day evenings in the school audi torium. Richard Elliott played several piano selections before the play began. Those in the play, "King of the Bongos" were Linda Par son Larry Hanson, Gary Wiles, Ruth Wiles, Don Hudson, Gary Friesell, Connie Rector, Doro thv Massoth. Janice Sheehan, Joe Ward, Velda Lee, Helen Mather and Karen Eidenmiller. Ushers were Karen Mather, Mildred Leddy Roberta Rathe, Rae Ellen Rhodes, Kathy Mur Dhv and Doris Rodaway. Prompters were Patricia Coster and Don Groesser. Stage manager was Joe Berg mann and Director was Tru man Lytle. The Juniors held a Bake Sale in the hall at the play. Beverly Lee gave a reading between acts and The Senior Boys Quartette sang. They were Don Groesser, Larry Hanson, Joe Ward and Gary Wiles. Following the play, the sen iors and their guests held a par ty at the American Legion Hall. The mothers of the class fur nished lunch. Sinatra Has Something New A Goatee! In certain scenes of "Never So ; Few," Matro-Goldwyn-Mayer's filmization of Tom Chamales' i Desi-semng novel, rrann omciua, appears on the screen for the first time with a hirsute adorn ment a goatee, to be exact. MGM make-up department head William Tuttle made five sketches of possible goatees Sin atra might wear for his role as a soldier on the Burma Road during World War II. The one worn by the star in the film was selected after screen tests were made of all five. Italy's beautiful Gina Lollo brigida plays the feminine lead in "Never So Few" her first Hollywood picture. The film plays Sunday, Mon day and Tuesday at Cass Thea ter. New Head For Boys' and Girls' State at Lincoln Lancaster County Judge Her bert Ronin has been elected as president of the Cornhusker Boys' and Girls' County Govern ment at the annual meeting of the directors. Ronin succeeds Judge Robert Simmons, chief justice of the Nebraska state supreme court, who resigned because of ill health. Judge Ronin has been active in the program for many years as chairman of the Lancaster county committee. The meeting of the directors was attended by Frank Landis, department commander of the American Legion, Ray Oltman assistant adjutant of the Leg ion and Mrs. Mable Luhrs, state president of the Legion Auxil iary and Mary McVicker, de partment secretary of the Leg' ion Auxiliary. It is good to see the college students home this week for Easter vacation? Most of the students would not agree this is a vacation with extra studies that have to be readied for their return to college. Keep In Touch Judy Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Long, returned home Wednesday from St. Mary's Hospital, Nebraska City. She had surgery Friday is get ting along fine. Mrs. John Barkhurst of Ne hawka, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thiele of Plattsmouth, was a business visitor here Wed nesday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilclon Switzer of Nehawka transacted business here and in Council Bluffs to day. Virgil Sudduth returned home Tuesday evening from the Im manuel Hospital in Omaha where he had undergone sur gery and was a patient for the past two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Plea- sance will be celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary Eas ter Sunday, April 17. They will be at home at 410 North 7th St. to their friends. George Jr., Beverly Ann and Brenda Lee Davis of St. Joseph, Mo., children of Mr. and Mrs. George Davis, are here to spend the week with their grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hugh sons were at St. Joseph Sunday and brought the children home with them. J. A. Davis, well known resi dent of Cass county, is back home from spending the winter season at Columbus with his daughter. Judy Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Long, underwent an appendectomy Friday at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City. Mrs. Joe Martis is at home af ter having surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City. Bert Philpot and Ella Cook of Weeping Water were Sunday dinner guests of their sister Mrs. Cynthia Dawson of this city. State Senator Edwin F. Mc Hugh and Eddie Craig of Mur dock were here Tuesday to look after business at the court house and visiting friends. Paul Biggerstaff was taken to St. Joseph Hospital Monday af ter suffering a heart attack. Paul is in room 125. Mrs, J. E. Worley of Lincoln has been a guest in Plattsmouth this week of her sister, Miss Verna Leonard, city Librarian. Mrs. Charlie Troop has enter ed the Rest Haven Home in Weeping Water. Jack Troop, her grandson, took her to the home Monday. Rex Young visited Mrs. Troop Wednesday, and found her enjoying her new surround ings. Elmer Lohnes was taken to Methodist Hospital Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Camp bell of Lincoln are here with Mrs. Lohnes. Louisville, Alvo Girls Cet Offices LINCOLN Janet Wright of Louisville has been elected trea surer of Delta Zeta sorority at Nebraska Wesleyan University. New rush chairman of Wil lard sorority is Carol Greer of Alvo. Janet, a junior, is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Wright. 713 Hazel, Louisville. Carol's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Char les H. Greer of Alvo. She is a sophomore. New officers for the coming year have been elected by all but one of the organized houses at Wesleyan. Fancy Feeders at Livingston Home The Cass County Fancy Feed ers held their March meeting at the home of Mary Livingston. Tag day was set for May 1 and plans for the club tour were discussed. Larry Gregg and Steve Klem- me gave reports on Jersey and Hereford cattle. Mrs. Livingston served lunch. Steve Klemme, reporter. Mr. Coolman Attends Church Conference Elwin Coolman, pastor of the local Reorganized Church ot Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was one of 20.000 par taking of Communion Sunday, April 3, at the church's World Conference in Independence, Mo. At the business session Mon day, greetings were read from President Eisenhower. Called and ordained to serve as apostles were Cecil R. Etting er and Duane E. Couey. This fills the two existing vacar.ies and brings the number of Apos tles to 12. W. E. Williams, who conduct ed a missionary series in Platts mouih in December was ordain ed to the Office of Seventy dur ing the conference. Union Items Mn. L. C. Russell Easter was taken to St. Mary's hospital last Tuesday, April 5th. He has been very ill for nearly four months and is now showing a slight improve ment. Mrs. Jerry Paasch, Mrs. Abe Exline, Mrs. Earl Jorn, and L. B. Mougey and Mrs. Todd attend ed Vacation Church School In stitute at Nebraska City Christ ian Church last Thursday. Mr. Frank Wolfe, who has been hospitalized for some time at the Veteran's Hospital at Lin coln, died last Monday night. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church on Wednes day afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Drennan of Waukeshia, Wisconsin and Mrs. Robert Harrah, Sr. spent the day in Omaha, last Tuesday, where they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Runnels and son, Jimmy. Mrs. Ivan Balfour attended W.C.T.U. meeting at Plattsmouth last Tuesday afternoon. ; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Balfour were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ferguson last Sun day. They spent the evening in Nebraska City, calling at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bal four. Tom Wolfe spent a few days last week in Union visiting his mother and brother, Edwin. Mrs. L. R. Upton of Albuquer que, New Mexico, is in Union for a few days visittng friends. She has been with her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Whittemore at Elm wood for some time, and will be back in Union next week to at tend the Legion Auxiliary lunch eon on April 19. On Friday, the officers of the society attended the Officer's Training Conference at the Omaha Olive Crest Church where they assisted in the pro gram for the session. The con ference was under the direction of Mrs. Wayne Hendrix who is District Leader for South East ern Nebraska WSWS. Janet Madsen in NWU Orchestra LINCOLN-Janet Madsen of Nehawka plays clarinet in the Nebraska Wesleyan University Orchestra which will present a public concert Sunday after noon, April 24. The 25-piece orchestra the school's first in recent years as a continuous year-around or ganization, appeared at the last Wesleyan student convocation before Easter vacation. Until this year, the group's activities had usually been limited to playing for the annual fall opera production. Miss Madsen, a senior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen T.
