JOCI Children Are Baptized Sunday Sunday at St. John the Baptist church batismal services were held for two of the babies of the parish, Lisa Marie Blotzer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Blotzer, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Todd of Murray were godpar ents. The rites were given by Father Victor Slachowlck. John Benjamin Ahrens, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ahren was baptized by Father Brauch of St. Thomas More church of Omaha. Clod-parents were Barney Eiting, uncle of the child and Mrs.' Dwain Ahrens, an aunt. Attend ing the baptismal service was four generations of the Eiting family, Mrs. Margaret Keenan, great grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. G. Eighting, grandparents and the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ahrens. A Classified Ad in The Journal cost as little as 50 cents. Spradlin Attends Tree Conference BUI Spradlin of Plattsmouth attended the annual meeting of the Midwestern Chapter of the National Shade Tree Conference In Omaha Feb. 10-12. He was accepted Into member ship in the chapter. Spradlin operates a business which In cludes tree care. Since none of the members of the Plattsmouth City Park Board could attend, Spradlin will report on the conference to them. Included was latest informa tion on Dutch Elm Disease. Purposes of the organization include promotion and improve ment of the practice of arbori culture, stimulation of public interest in planting and preser vation of shade trees and estab lishment and maintenance of a code of ethics by people In the industry. Say les and family and attended the C of C Glee Club's annual affair. Next week, Mrs. Hayes will leave to visit her son, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hayes and family in Elyrla, Ohio, for a couple weeks. Otto Schafer of the Nehawka community was in Plattsmouth for a few hours Friday and while here called at the Journal. Otto reports the last snow was very heavy at his farm home and re quired a great deal of work In clearing out a road from the farm. Eugene Spangler and family of Portland, Ore., who have been here visiting with Mr. Spangler's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Spangler and family, and other relatives, departed Friday for their home. They also visited a brother, Lawrence, at an Omaha hospital where he has been for some time. They found Lawrence as improving but will be hospit alized for a long time. Reggie Kellison received a long distance phone call Saturday on her 13th birthday from her sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Galen Leach and three daughters in St. Paul, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Wiles and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Philpot were among the wedding guests at tending the nuptial vows of Mar garet Harrison Hartwell and Alfred DeCarlon Sunday. The couple was married at the Dun dee Presbyterian Church in Omaha. Mrs. Tom Young of Medford, Oregon has returned home after a three weeks visit with Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson and Mrs. Golda Robbins. . Lynn Fitzgerald of this city, one of the trio of Plattsmouth young men entering the national army reserve several weeks ago, Is reported ill at Fort Leon ard Wood, Mo. He is at the base hospita lat that place suffering from a severe case of the flu. His fellow enlistees, : Dennis Todd and Gary Toman, are also sick at the hospital. Library Has New 'Edison Biography The Plattsmouth Library has received a recently released 500 page Biography of the late Tho mas Alva Edison entitled "Edi son." Matthew Josephson, author of several best sellers, has in "Edi son" brought out a new and more complete concept of Amer ica's greatest inventor. Joseph son depicts the late Thomas Alva Edison's Impoverished childhood, his inventive success and failures, his contributions to industrial development, his bitter fight with George West inghouse's company and many vivid examples of his talent, ambitions, originality, wit and charm. This with additional back ground material recently avail able from Edison archives of the Edison Library, will make "Edi son" popular reading for all ages. The new book is now available here for public use. Work Proceeds on New OPPD Office LOUISVILLE (Special) Con struction work is going along at a fairly good pace on the erec tion of the new Omaha Public Power Company District office headquarters building in Louis ville. Weather has not been very good but the contractors have raised the lot a couple of feet and the masons have got some of the walls up about 10 feet. The building is scheduled to be completed about July 1. Mrs. John Alexen spent the past week at the home of her daughter. Sergeant and Mrs. Donald Seeba and family of Law rence, Kans. Mrs. Alexen also visited with relatives in Manhat tan, Kans. Mrs. Miller, mother of Mrs. Fred Fischer of this city, Is im proved at St. Joesph Hospital, room 474. Mrs. Miller is suffer ing from a heart condition and entered the hospital the past week. James Glenn( son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Glenn Is Improved at the Childrens Memorial Hospital in Omaha, room 207. The family Is encouraged with his progress, following observation and treatment. Mrs." Tinus Bomberg entered' the St. Catherine's Hospital Sat urday and underwent surgery this morning. Mrs. Darwin Rhoden was tak en Friday night to the Metho dist Hospital In Omaha as an emergency patient. She is un dergoing x-rays today. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fulton are ill at their home in Mynard Mrs. Fulton Is sick from the flu and Mr. Fulton has virus pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bierl with Mr. and Mrs. Otto Meisinger are enjoying a weeks visit at Hot Springs, Ark., enjoying the sights of this popular health resort. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Corbin and Sergeant. and Mrs. Gerald Sievers of Omaha were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mrs. Eva Kerns. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kerns and Tallie were evening visitors. Lions Club Smorgasbord Draws Crowd The day was St. Valentine's; the occasion, the annual Lions Smorgasbord; The result, more than 400 hungry diners sated their appetites with turkey, ham and dozens of complementing foods. The net result: money for the local Lions Club Charities, in cluding the Boy Scouts. Every member of the Club not' in bed with the flu and a num ber of wives, put in many hours preparing the feast and in cleaning up after the affair, but they were a happy and grateful group who asked that their thanks be expressed to the folks who ate Sunday dinner. . . (Whoops. . .Smorgasbord) with them. In addition to the Lions and their wives, many local Boy Scouts helped during the serv ing hours. They also had the coat checking concession which netted them a tidy sum. They too expressed their thanks for the generosity of yesterday's guests. The Smorgasbord was prepar ed under the guidance of Dr. L. A. Amato and Father Robert Hodgson, co-chairmen of the event. A part of the proceeds will be used to obtain equipment for the local Boy Scouts troop, the rest for various Lions Club charities. Roberta Knaup Is Phi Chi Pledge Roberta Knaup pledged Phi Chi Theta. professional business fraternity for women, at the University of Nebraska, Feb. 6. Miss Knaup, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knaup of Weeping Water, is a Junior in Business Administration at the University and a member of Delta Delta Delta social sorority.
