THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEFKLY JOURNAL PAGE TWO Monday, February 15, 1960 Joslyn Art Instructor Speaks To Woman's Civic Club Here Members of the Plattsmouth Wuman's Civic Club held their regular meeting Monday eve nkig Feb. 8 at Consumers. Preceeding the business meet ing; Mrs. Isabella Threlkeld, In structor at Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, presented a program 'Elements of Art" and taking the members on a tour of the museum by way ot colored slides. Following the program Mrs. Ruback, president, conducted the business meeting, opening with the pledge to the flag and a silent prayer. The All State Music Contest was discussed and tabled until next meeting. The fee this year has been raised to $90. Last year the club sponsored two half scholarships to All State. The schools are to be contact ed to see if there are any pupils interested in trying for a dis trict scholarship. State convention Is to be held In Lincoln at the cornhusker Hotel March 28-30. A letter was read from the Children's Memorial Hospital asking the club to decide on a project for their bazarr next fall. Miss Maxlne Cloidt reported a book purchased for the library "Best Plays of 1959." A plague will be placed In the front of the book with the name of the club. Miss Naomi Day and Mrs. Don Warga explained the program of the beauty box IS HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE APPOINTMENT OF JOYCE ROZELL DAVIS TO THE STAFF OF HAIRDRESSERS OF THIS SALON YOU LL LIKE HER. Phone 270 1 the "Lions Club" Eye Bank. They distributed pamplets and applications lor the club mem bers. A donation to the Historical Society is to be made. Miss Cloidt is to report on this at the next meeting. A report was given by the nominating committee, election of officers will be held at the March meeting. Mrs. Hugh Stander, Jr., an nounced there were several scholarship loans available. All. materials have been sent to the schools and is available to any student interested. Refreshments were served by the committee from a beautiful table decorated in a valentine theme by the committee, Mrs. James McMillian, Mrs. Clark Finney, Mrs. Leonard John, Mrs. James Doody. Mrs. Clark Finney, Fine Arts chairman, had a display of art from the Public Schools. The entries will be judged and the winners sent to the District Contest, the club members were very impressed with the large display. Officers Installed In Junior Group New officers were installed at the regular meeting of the Jun ior American Legion Auxiliary when they met Friday night at the Gas Company. Mrs. Hussell Schalk installed Judy Baumgart as president, Suz:inre Solomon, vice presi dent; Candy Carper, treasurer; Judy ttrrjden, secretary; Bobby Kair.es, chaplain; Barbara Lop er, hag bearer and Mary Ann Ding-man, historian. Rcst'tu Raines and Judy Baumgart had charge of the games following the business meeting. Candy Carper won the first game and Mary Lou Porter the second Eame. A Valentine party was enjoyed with members exchanging val entines. Art ' 25th YEAR Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dickman of Union will hold open house at their home Feb. 21 from two to five in honor of their silver wed ding: anniversary. They were married Feb. 20, 1935 at Union at the home of the Baptist Minis ter, the late Reverend William Taylor. Hennings Mark 60th Wedding Date LOUISVILLE (Special) Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Hennings cele brated their 60th Wedding Anni versary Sunday at their home with their children, grandchild ren and great grandchildren all present. The children and their families all brought filled baskets and a fine dinner was enjoyed by everyone. She will report for the mag azine this year on college life and the college scene. As a member of the board she will compjete an assignment that will help her explore her in terests and abilities in writing, editing, fashion, Advertising or Art, in competition for one of 20 guest editorships to be awarded by the magazine late in May.
