Harmon and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rughe of Avoca attended funeral serv ices Feb 1 for Mrs. Mary Smoots of Palisade. Mrs. Smoots was the mother of Mrs. Harmon. She died Jan. 29 at 91 The two coup les returned home on Tuesday. Mrs. Charles Freeman return home on Friday morning after spending ten days with her sis ter, Mrs. Leo McCann and Mr. McCann at Grand Island. Mrs. McCann Is much better, follow ing surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lloyd and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clif ford Lloyd, Mr and Mrs. John Lloyd and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Stratton and Elc of Lincoln and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Stratton and Monty were Sunday after noon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stratton. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kremke took Mrs. Kremke's mother to her home in Papillion Friday evening. They attended church in Papillion on Sunday and Mr. and Mrs. Kremke presented a gift to the nursery room of the church in honor of their little daughter Palmer Lynn, who passed away a short time after her birth. Mrs. Homer Jameson was a Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bender and Jimmy. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Jameson will hold open house in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 21, in the Congregation al church parlors, from two to five p.m. Friends and relatives are invited without further invi tation. Mrs. Robert Kremke is the new English teacher in the Weeping Water high school. She is replacing Mrs. Sue Wolph of Lincoln who has resigned. The P.T.A. Variety program will be held on February 29th at the Weeping Water school audi torium. No P.T.A. meeting will be held on February 22nd. The proceeds from this program will help finance a first aid room at the school. DOG HEROES Chiavara, Italy His two pet dogs split up relief duties when Bruno Bernero slipped on a cliff and was wedged between two rocks on a hunting trip. One dog mounted guard at the spot. The other ran to Bern ero's home, two hours away, and led a police patrol back to the spot. But the rescuers ar rived too late. Bernero lay dead in the snow, with the dog crouched beside him.
