Miss Bark- nurst was a recent surgery pat ient. Her condition is favorable. Larry Fullerton of Lincoln, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Har vey Barkhurst was one of two boys who recently received their Eagle Scout badges. Larry has gone to camp for several sum mers with the local Boy Scouts, and earned several of his badRes at these camps. Joan Stoll. dauehter of Mr and Mrs. Herbert Stioll, was able to return to her work in Lincoln Monday following two week3 home. She was in a car aeeidpnt. home. She was in a car accident near Elmwood. and was badlv shaken and bruised. Her car was a total wreck. Elect Board Members Dick Tritsch and Lawrence Gregg of Murray were elected new board members of the Farmers Coop Oil Company at tne company meeting Thursday afternoon. Retiring members are Elmer Stoll of Nehawka and Charles Spangler of Murray. There was a talk by the com pany auditor, Jack Tharp of Kansas City. One hundred custo mers and guests were served an oyster dinner at the Metho dist church served by the WSCS preceding the meeting. Elmer Krebs is the manager. Mrs. Herbert Tanner Sr. of Princeton, Mo., was a guest in tne Junior Tanner home for several days the past week to assist with the care of Johnnie Tanner and Mrs. Swartz. They expected to return home Mon day. Mrs. Alfred Mather of Falls City visited Sautrday at the home of her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mather. The chidlren and their families of August Stohlmann Sr. helped him celebrate his 80th birthday Saturday evening, at his home in Louisville. The evenine was spent visiting and Carolyn Sue Stohlmann played several selec tions on the piano. Mr. Stohl man also sang one of his favor ite German hymns from mem ory which was much enjoyed by the grouo. Later in the evening a delicious lunch was enjoyed by all. The Southeast 8 Conference held its band clinic at Papillion last Thursday. The Louisville band took part in the clinic and was under the direction of . a director from the University of Nebraska. Robert Edson is the music director of the Louisville schools. Manley School News The Citizenship club meeting was called to order by our presi dent. All members were present. The secretary's report was read and approved. We had a discus sion on how to improve our school paper. Election of the staff for our school paper was held with the following results: Editor, Raymond Sluyter; Assis tant Editor, Eddie Mikkelsen; News Reporter, Ralph Puis. The meeting adjourned. Association scholarship to Peru The value is $90. Larry is a Jun ior at Peru State. He was home for several days the past week for mid-semester vacation. Re cent guests of the Wolphs were Mr. and Mrs. Kruger and three children of West Des Moines The W.S.C.S. of the Methodist church will serve the dinner Febuary 9 sponsored by the Farmers Grain company of Ne hawka. It will be served at the church dining room. They will also serve the farm sale lunch February 16 at the Louis Eaton farm. Beverly Balfour's dinner guests Sunday were Mrs. Helen Petersen, Nebraska City; Mrs Amelia Balfour, Carol and Susan Balfour, Ann Nutzman, Marilyn Briley and Neila Pierce. Later they bowled at Nebraska City Beverly was thirteen years old that day. Dutch Academy Extension Club Dutch Academy Extension club met Jan. 20 at the home of Rowena Gaebel with Mrs. John Luken as co-hostess. Meeting opened by singing the Extension club song and Edna Meisinger reading a Poem for the New Year, Roll call was answered by thirteen members and two guests, Lettie Stohlmann and Shirley Gaebel joining the club. It was voted to contribute to the March of Dimes. A lesson on Glass Etching will be held at Weeping Water. Chris Murray underwent sur gery at the Methodist hospital in Omaha Monday. His daughter Mrs. Virtus Hawes of Clay Cen ter, Kansas arrived Friday and is remaining here for the pres ent until her father gets better. Axel Johnson of Denver form erly of Louisville, has retired from Gates Company after 32 years with the company. He star ted work at Gates in 1928 as a general helper in the millroom, later working as calendar tan dem, operator in 1937. He trans- ierrea to mmroom stock and storage In 1943 as a stock Inspec tor and worked at that until re tirement. Mr. Johnson has many relatives and friends in Louis ville. Mrs. J. W. Myers fell and in jured her ankle Friday after noon. She was helped to the doc tor's office and then sent to the Methodist hospital in Omaha.
