LETTER BOX To Cass County Taxpayers: I just spent two days at Cen tral City, Merrick County, Ne braska, to see how they han dled their county roads. Merrick County has a County Engineer and he is the County Engineer and County Surveyor, his wages are $425 per month with gas and oil funished. We of Cass County have a County Engineer, who isn't an engineer and hi3 bill last month was $813.76; the Surveyor's bill was $776.50, or together a total of $1,590.26 for Cass County. Mer rick County has one man at $425 per month, with gas and oil furnished, that does both jobs. As to cash, Cass County has only about what the County farm brought. Merrick county has $325,000 cash on hand and can use it at any time for roads. The Merrick County Engineer let a bid for a bridge across the Platte river, the lowest bid was $46,000, he didn't like the bid so he takes his gang and hired some extra help and put in the same bridge for $33,500, saving $12,500 for the County of Mer rick. Merrick County, at Central City, has thirteen mail routes; every mail route is blacktop or gravel, not one foot of mud for the mail carriers. Silver Creek, Clarks, Central City, Archer, and Palmer have blacktop roads from each town to the high ways. Merrick County has twenty-one miles in all of blacktop; Cass county has about twenty, one inches of blacktop. To any one: If this statement isn't 100 per cent true, I will pay your expenses to Central City and back. The County didn't pay my expenses to Central City, either. Our road program is fifty years behind. I have a petition over the County as to our Coun ty Supervisor and Surveyor get ting $1,590.26 per month, and the man in Merrick County do ing both jobs for $425, gas and oil furnished. I never ask any body to sign this petition, just a;k them to read it and use their own judgment, and only four people did not sign it. This type of thing could go on and on. There will be more statements to come later. ' Ralph Doud, Plattsmouth, R.F.D. 1 6 of Title Team Lost to Louisville LOUISVILLE (Special). The High School basketball season will open Tuesday, Dec. 1, with Louisville playing the Spring field boys in the Louisvills Gym. Louisville Coach Ernie Lee is making no predictions but it is generally believed that he will have another good team. Six of last year's state cham pionship squad were lost by graduation, but Coach Lee is building his 1959-1960 team around such stars as Doug Al frey and Jerry Luken and the general opinion is that the Lions will be a good team again. The Lions have a heavy sche dule this year. There are four teen scheduled games and three tournaments. Team members are as follows: Leroy Voight man, Douglas Alfrey, Jerry Lu ken, Paul Herbic, Robert Weis neth, Seniors and Gary Reed, Terry Janusz, Jim Hendrix, Bob Kahland and Jack Welch Jr. Juniors. Mr. and Mrs. John Hobscheldt have returned home from a very pleasant visit with their son John and family at Cornwith, la., and George and family at La'Vern, la. They were pleased to find John much imnroved in j health and now able to look after his work. FAUK five Police Court Hears Long Pending Case On Saturday Saturday Judge J. H.
