Each member had brought a bouquet from home. Fourteen of the Roueh Riders Sacfdle Club rede their horses to Waubonsie Park, which is just across the river in Iowa. They camped there over night and took the trail ride in the park the next morning, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bcgenrief are members. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Irons and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Irons of New Franklin, Missouri drove to Pallstine, Texas. After return ing they went to Plainvlew to see the Ben Hoffmans and Into So. Dakota where they tried out their luck fishing and did catch a nice mess. Thev accompanied Norman's to their home to com plete their 2 week trip. Mr. Irons was on vacation from his work a Louisville. Harold Wilken entered the hos pital Sept 8 for a second opera tion on his injured kg which hap pened several weeks ago. The death of Ralph Uhley of Louisville occurred Sept. 5 He was an Elmwood boy and was an Elmwood High School grad uate in about 1910. He was mar ried to Aletha Rouse. His father was a carpenter and built many houses in Elmwood. Emily Gonzales returned Thursday evening from a short visit with relatives at Iowa City, Iowa. Dorothy Mills of Murdock went with her. The W. S. C. S. met Sept, 11 in the Fellowship room with Mrs. Strabel presiding. Devotions were given by Mrs. C. Bucknell and the lesson was given by Mrs. Guy Clements, the title being "A Light on the Mountain". Mrs. Swain Neilsen and Mrs. LaDean Lannin reported on the School of .Missions which they attended. Four of the older members were brought to the meeting and were called upon to tell of exper iences they had helping in the "Aid"' in those past days. These ladies were Mrs. Linda Gustin, Mrs. Mary Williams, Mrs. Wm. Cook and Mrs. Laura Sutherland. John Charling reported on her stay at the new camp "Fonten elle". Vickie Drake and Fredine Engleklng also attended. Mrs. Howard Pool reported on her work with the M. Y. F. Mrs. Horton's bodk review was MK Hka. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rail of Ash land were afternoon callers Wed nesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Preston. They are uncle and aunt of Mrs. Preston. Mrs. Ray Preston returned from Seward where she assisted the Dwayne Prestons In moving. Mrs. Martha Hoover Is now employed as nurse at the Ebler Nursing Home, driving In each morning from her farm heme The death of Mrs. Ed Penter man occurred at Rockwell City, Iowa Saturday, Sept. 12 Her fun eral was Sept. 15 at the Mehod lst church here. Mrs. Penterman was Kate Winkler and lived here many years. Ed Penterman was co-owner of Penterman Bro General Store years ago. Lyman Cromwell passed away during the night and was found Sunday .morning, Sept. 13. He had been with his sister, Mrs. Dora Quinn at South Bend, Nebr. Alma Clements entertained with a coffee on Sunday after noon in her home in honor of Mrs. Orley Clements. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Koehler and sons, Jimmie and Bruce and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Koehler of Har vard, Nebr. and Miss Edna Mae Koeler of Lincoln and the Les ter Rosenow family were Sunday dinner guests of Ed Rosenow's honoring Johnny's and Bobby Sj birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Souch ec entertained at 6 o'clock din ner Sunday, their friends from Talmage, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hauberg and Richard. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Pool of Wabash were Sunday guests at the home of their daughter and family, the Glenn Miller's. They attended church here first. Mrs. Clarence Arnold of Haw ley, Minn, is spending a few days here at the Harry Arnold her brother-in-law's, home and other relatives in Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stege, John and Jed were Sunday guests at the home of her sister and family. Dr. and Mrs. Neil Pettinger at Syracuse. George Blessing Jr. was also a guest. The Clarence Fleischman fam ily drove to Otoe Sunday after noon to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ottens. Virgil Wood returned from his trip to Detroit in regard to the Bourough's Co. that h works for and is visiting his aunt Grace Wood and aunt Mrs. Watson Jones and other relatives. His mother, Mrs. Mae Wood has been visiting here and will re turn to Santa Monica, Cal. with him Tues. of this week. Overnight guests Friday, at the home of Rev: and Mrs. Ebin per were Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kramer and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Norman and family of Holdrege. In honor of Ruebon Luechens, home on leave from the navy, a fellowship dinner was held at the Herbert Oehlerking home. Rev. and Mrs. Ebinger and the Luechens relatives were present. Sunday visitors at the Guy Clements home were Mr. and Mrs. Fay Chambers of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Frank Lorenz. A buffet supper in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Orley Clements, was enjoyed by the Clements brothers and sisters, also the Ed Millers, the Syd Moores and Helen Schneider. Each took a dish. Our Unity in Christ in Person al Christian Living", was the theme of the devotions and les son presented by Mrs. Ether Bor nemeier and Mrs. Joe Kunz at the September WSWS meeting at the E. U. B. Church. In con nection with this, each officer and the minister explained his or her responsibilities as a work er in the organization. All would seek to say, "I would be one with Christ." A loving tribute to Mrs. Paul Bornemeier was presented in the form of an original poem by Mrs. Gussie Jochens. The Vice-President, Mrs. Wal ter Oehlerking, Sr., presided at the business meeting. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Ray Hanson and Mrs. Ray Vogt, Fred C. Durant, a former pres ident of the International Astron autical Federation: "I believe they (the Russians) will try to put a man up (into space) within the next three months." A reception was held at the school auditorium Thursday evening to get acquainted with the new teachers and renew friendships with those return ing from last year. Mr. and Mrs. Sigrld Jensen, .Weeping Water showed pictures of their trip to Denmark and other pictures of interest. Cookies and coffee was served. The missionary society of the First Lutheran Church met Thursday in the church parlors. The topic, "Thanks Offering", the devotonal period "Walk in Faith" led by Mrs. Fred Kirk hoff. The lesson of continued warefare by Mrs. George Kirk hoff. Hostesses were Mrs. Len ord Nutzman, Mrs. Otto Lud- wig, Mrs. Ed Nieman, Mrs. W. Maddocks, Mrs. John Rippe The Jolly Neighbor Club met with Mrs. Leslie Berner Thurs day. The afternoon was spent playing cards. Attending the flower show at Nehawka, Mrs. Paul Linhardt, Mrs. Louis Ruhge, Mrs. J. H. F. Ruhge, Mrs. Calvin Carsten, Mrs. Nancy Carsten, Mrs. Ann Mlckle, Mrs. E. Rawalt, Mrs. Martha Ruge, Mrs. Lynn Ho back, Mrs. Kenneth Wessel and girls, Mrs. Fritz Rohlfs and Linda. Rev. Sherer was a guest speaker at the Zlon Lutheran church at Pickerall Sunday at the mission feast. The grading at First Luther an church approach has been finished and will be rocked soon. Mission Feast will be observed at First Lutheran church Sun day Oct. 4. Rev. Davd Rath, Randolph will speak. A pot luck dinner will be held at noon. Kenneth Mueller who was seriously hurt in an auto acci dent has been returned from a Lincoln hospital back to Syra cuse community hospital. He is much improved and able to be up some. Mr. Bernard Hauske, Port land, Oregon is visiting his dau ghter, Mrs. Norton Johnson and family. The Avoca Congregational church will go back to its regu lar time Sunday, Oct. 4 when communion will be observed. Robert McDonald has started wprk on a quanset store house north of his present store.
