Embree who was still on crutches last Sun day morning in the Union Meth odist Church services were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fisher and Mrs. Margaret Carr, all from Platts mouth. Mrs. Carr was heard in a vocal solo and in a duet with Mr. Fisher. Mrs Fisher accom panied the vocalists on the or gan. The junior choir sang a special number as they do each fourth Sunday. Wes Harrah and Bobby Morton (primary depart ment) served as ushers. The senior choir sang a special an them at the. close of the service. A group of young people from an Omaha Baptist Church con ducted special evening services at the Baptist Church in Union last Sunday. The theme was: God's Trombones. Mr. and Mrs Glen Hartman and family spent the weekend in Estherville. Iowa, and Dun nell, Minn., visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Rich and twin daughetrs drove to Un derwood, Iowa, Saturday and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Don ald McQuin. The twins spent the weekend with the McQuins. Mr. and "Mrs. Rich drove back to Union Saturday evening. The Robert Harrah Jr. fam ily are having more than their share of bad luck this summer, it seems. Their son Wes fell one Sunday in June and broke several benes in his right foot and was in a cast for a long time. Last Sunday, son Bob fell when he stepped into a hole and broke bones in the arch of his right foot. He'll be in a cast for several weeks. Bob is a fresh man at the high school in Ne braska City and was to start football practice. He also was playing baseball. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. How ard Snodgrass during the past week were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Snodgrass and son Jerry of Fair mont. They attended the Sidney, Iowa, rodeo. Guests Sunday of the Snodgiasses were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Snodgrass also of Fairmont. Mrs. L. B. Mougey left Un ion last Thursday for a few weeks vacation in Glenwood Springs, Colo., where she was to be the guest of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Ray Cross. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cross left Union last Wednesday to drive to Stratton, Colo., to spend some time vacationing with their dau ghter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Smith. Mrs. Loren Becker and son Kevin and Patty McQuin of Un derwood, Iowa, drove to Union Monday forenoon. They brougnt Iola and Irene Rich home. The girls had been spending a week end at Underwood. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Frans had a happy surprise hist Sunday when Mr. and Mrs. Rue Frans of Nebraska City called on them. This was the first time Rue was able to visit them since last March when he suffered a stroke. Roger and Suzanne Ken dall accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Frans, driving for them. Mcrritt Dodson Found Dead at Nehawka Home Merritt Dodson, 58, resident of the Nehawka community, was found dead this noon at the family home. He had been in failing health some time. Surviving are the wife. Aud rey, three children, Mcrritt Jr., a teacher who is to enter the army in September, Jackie and Sharon, daughters who are at home. Friday, Mrs. Hansen took John ny, Lois, Debbie and Tommy swimming at Nebraska City Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hansen of Plattsmouth were supper gu ests Saturday at the Ivan Han sen home and Tommy return ed home with them. Mrs. Lulu Wolfe of Platts -mouth was a guest for several days the past week of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Shrader. She attend ed Eastern Star at Weeping Wa ter with the Shraders. Bob Akins and his two sons,, Bob Jr. and Charles, spent a week's vacation at Dunning, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. George Kime, Mrs. Lois Spear and Debbie re turned home Wednesday from a five day trip to Lake of the Ozarks, Springfield, Mo., and a drive into Arkansas. Among those at the wedding of Miss Ann Marquardt at the Congregational Church in Alvo Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Wolph, Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Anderson, Dan Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Ross and Bill. Attending the reception af terward were Mr. and Mrs.. Clin ton Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. El lis Lacy and Bonita. Ollie Attebery and son, Rob ert and Burr Standley of Man kato, Minn., went to Peru Sat urday to visit Mr. Standley's mother, Mrs. Hayden Standley. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Ollie At tebery and family were dinner guests at the J. R. Dysart home in Union and all visited with Mr. and Mrs. Burr Standley. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Balfour and family spent Friday and Saturday with the Harold Hau berg family at Osceola. Marty Hauberg who spent the week with the Balfours returned with them to his home. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ship ley of Omaha were weekend gu ests of the Gerald Thorns fam ily. Mrs. Ollie Attebery accompan ied Mrs. Hugh Stander of Platts mouth to Tecumseh Saturday afternoon to a planning meet ing for the first district con vention of the Federated Wom en's Clubs to be held at Te cumseh Nov. 4. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Chris Kuster and others attend ing were Mrs. R. Cawley, Mrs. D. W. Hurst, and Mrs. Little ton, all of Tecumseh; Mrs. Lan dis Rulla, Sterling; Mary Nich ols, Brock, and Mrs. Fred Na ber, Syracuse. Mrs. Clara Rutherford Shim min, former Cass County teach er, was honored recently at a banquet at Mullen in recogni tion of her 44 years in the teach ing profession. She taught in Wyoming, Colorado as well as in Nebraska. Her first teaching experience was in Nebraska in 1912. She then went to Wyoming and taught four years and took a homestead. She taught at Bay ard, Bridgeport and Paxton in Nebraska, also in rural schools in McPherson and Hooker coun ties. She taught three summer sessions for the benefit of oil and beet workers' children. She holds a life certificate and has had more than three years of college. The program was This Is Your Life as a Teacher. The Teach ers Association gave her a cor sage. Mrs. Shimmln does not plan to retire. She is well-known to friends at Nehawka. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Warden and sons wore recent guests of Helen Warden and Mrs. J. W Thomas of Lincoln to observe the birthday of Miss Warden. Thursday, Mr. and Mrs. Ward en and sons were supper gu ests of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pike of Union. The occasion was Mrs. Pike's birthday. The Rebekah annual picnic was held Sunday noon at the El mer Stoll home. Lois Whlttington returned ty her home Thursday from Ne braska City where she spent sev eral days with her cousins at the Wllber Whlttington home. Mrs. R. B. Stone returned home Sunday from Clarkson Hos pital in Omaha where she went for observation. She was 111 the. past week with the flue. Charlie Hall received a bad cut on a finger of his right hand when he cleaned out a power mower. He had stopped the en gine but the blade was still go ing. Six stiches were taken in the cut. Lewis Royal, Herbert Stoll, Gerald Shrader, Elmer and Rob in Stoll are roofing the barn at. the Elmer Stoll farm. The roof was damaged by a storm. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lauderman of Ames, Iowa, were guests on Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. El mer Stoll. They stopped here ehroute to Colorado for a va cation. Guests Thursday at the Stoll home were Mrs. Edwin Schomaker, Lincoln, Mrs. Sad ie Shrader and Mrs. Howard Heesch and Tammy. Mrs. Amelia Balfour recently spent two days with relatives at Avoca, Mrs. Dena Ruge and Frances, Mrs. Martha Ruge and Mrs. Nan Carsten. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Thorne returned Thursday from a three weeks trip to the northwest. On the way they visited relatives, Mr. and Mrs. James Rose and family of Scottsbluff, Mr. and Mrs. James Rose and family of Scottsbluff, Mr. and Mrs. Mel vin Paben and family at Sid ney. At Bermerton, Wash., they were guests of Mrs. Thome's sister and family, Mrs. R. C. Cain. Some of the interesting places they saw were the Pac ific ocean at Hoguim, Wash.; Mt. Ranier, Craters of the Moon in Idaho and Palisade Dam at Palisade, Idaho. They stayed overnight at Mountain Home, Idaho, where the earthquake was felt. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. John Gilpin at Snohomish, Wash. Mrs. Alice Crow, who had been in Bremerton, Wash., since Jan uary, returned home with the Thornes. The Cub Scouts had a picnic at Steinhart Park Monday. They also visited John Brown's Cave. Mrs. Ned Nutzman, Mrs. Hal Hansen and Mrs. Oscar Brandt furnished transportation. Mrs. Edwin Schomaker of Lin coln came Tuesday to spend two weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Ned Nutzman and family. She was a guest Thursday and Friday at the Howard Heesch home. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Meyer, Richard and Elvina of Imper ial were overnight guests Mon day of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ross and Bill. The Meyers brought their daughter, Karen, to Lin coln where she will attend the Lincoln School of Commerce. Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Ross and Norma, Shirley and Melis sa spent the past week in Den ver with Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Block. Robin stayed with the Bert Worthan family at Mur ray and Marcia stayed with the Robert Grunwalds of Union. Mr. and Mrs. John P. Wea ver and Elaine, Navasota, Tex., came Sunday to spend several days with the Victor Ross fam ily. Wednesday they observed the 12th birthday of Elaine with a picnic at Steinhart Park at Nebraska City. Present were the Victor Ross family and their gu ests, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Ross and Bill, Henry Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Morris of Union and Imogene Gude of Nebraska City. The Weavers left for their home Thursday. The Nehawka Co-op Oil Co. was awarded a trip for tire sell ing. Bob Akins took the trip by plane to Los Angeles and went to a tire testing grounds, Nolt Berry Farm and Disneyland. He also visited a brother. John and family at Bell Gardens. The com pany also won a trip to Eau Claire, Wis., and St. Paul, Minn, which Leroy Johnson and El mer Krebs will take Sept. 16 for three days. They will fly and visit, a battery plant.
