Sand Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schlich temeier and sons were guests at a family dinner Sunday honor ing Mrs. Schllchtemeler's grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vaclav Budin of Schulyler on their 65th wedding anniversary. The din ner was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Sinister and fifty guests were present. Mr. and Mrs. Budln were present with 65 silver dollars from the guests. The families of the Christian church at Weeping Water hon ored Miss Sharon Ehlers and Mrs. Kenneth Meyer with a mis cellaneous shower Friday even ing at the church. The program portrayed "This is Your Life". There were 85 present. Tlr.e who attended from Nehawka were Mr. and Mrs. Lester Shra der, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Allgayer and family. Sunday afternoon Mrs. Ray Mayfield of Garland and Mrs. Louie Allgayer entertained at a linen shower at the Lester Sh rader home north of Nehawka for Miss Ehlers. Miss Ehlers and Mr. Kenneth Meyer will be married at the Christian church at Weeping Water August 15. Lois Wessel returned home Saturday from Beatrice where she visited Dick and Louella Gunther and Odell where she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ruppercht. She was away a week. Mr. and Mrs. Ruppercht brought her home Saturday and were weekend guests of the Fred Wessels. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Scharp and Stevie attended a Schomer us family picnic at Steinhart Park Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Helm, Billy and Jimmy of Yakimaw, Wash., Mrs. Fred Helm, Nebraska City, Mrs. Herman Meyer, Syracuse, were guests for dinner Wednes day of Mr. and Mrs. John Knabe. Hundreds Attend Last Rites For Isadore Tucker Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock Nehawka was filled by hundreds of residents from all sections of Cass county to pay their last tri butes to Mrs. Isadore Sheldon Tucker, native of Cass county and an outstanding figure in the community life for many years. The services were held in the home where her family had long resided and thronged by the old friends and neighbors and those acquainted with the departed and her worthwhile services to the people of Cass county. Here in the beautiful settings at an early day, her grandfather, Lawson Sheldon, had founded a home and the family have ser ved in builders of Cass county in which the departed had play ed a great part. The imressive funeral service of the Episcopal church was conducted by Father Max Kors, rector of St. Mark's church of Omaha and formerly of St Luke's church at Plattsmouth. Interment was at the family plot in Mt. Pleasant cemetery with Donald Dory, Ben Olive, Richard Stone, Marvin Edmonds, John Woodward, John Wolph served as casket bearers and Mrs. Fred Hansen, Mrs. Vance Balfour, Mrs. Hal Hansen, Miss Frances Hansen were floral bearers. Among those attending the services from this city were: Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Giles, Mr. and Mrs. Searl S. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Alva D. Linder, C. E. Ledgway, Robert M. Walling, Mrs. Howard Wiles, Mrs. Gertrude Gorton, Mrs. Alice Pollock Perry, Mrs. Elbert Wiles, Mr. and Mrs. Sterl ing. The large cortage was hand led in fine manner by Sheriff Solomon and assistants in get ting to and from the cemetery. The Hobson funeral home of Weeping Water had charge of arrangements. Former Nehawka residents were present from many towns. Plans and specifications were approved by the City Council at a special meeting last week. KEEP IN TOUCH Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kelly of South Bend were in Plattsmouth Thursday for a short visit at the home of Mrs. Charles Ault, .sis ter of Mr. Kelley. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly have just returned home from a vacation trip to the west and northern Pacific coast. Charles Olson and daughter, Lucille of Omaha were in Platts mouth the past week to visit with old friends. Mr. and Mrs. William Allgeier have returned home from a vacation spent in the west, with a most delightful trip through the Colorado mountains. They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Gansemer at Denver. The Rev. and Mrs. A. L. Em bree were hosts to their family at a picnic dinner in Garfield Park last Sunday. Present were Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Bonham and Mike of Hastings Mr. and Mrs. Reed F. Embree, Mike, Mary Lou, and Douglas of Lincoln; and Mrs. A. P. Nastase and Elaine Marie of Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hurst of Red Oak, Iowa were also in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Harmon and daughter of Chico, Calif., are driving to Plattsmouth for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fauquet. Mrs. Har mon is the former Joyce Fau quet. They are expected here Tuesday and will visit a week. Mrs. Alata Baker entered St. Catherine's Hospital, Omaha Monday afternoon for observa tion. She is a patient on the 3rd floor at the hospital. Tommy L. Spangler arrived Sunday morning here at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Spangler. He has been with the Marines in Japan since April 1958. He will enjoy a 30 day leave before reporting- to Santa Ana, Calif., for further assignment. Miss Camela Williams is en joying a visit from a friend, Judy Ann Cart water of Kansas City, Kans. Camela is a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wil liams and will accompany Judy Ann back to Kansas City for a weeks visit. Officer Seybert Litle is sew ing as chief of the police de partment during the absence of Fred Tesch on vacation. Officer Litle is a veteran on the police force serving several years on the job prior to his present term and has proven a most efficient of ficer. Richard C. Peck, clerk of the U. S. district court at Omaha was here today to look after some matters at the courthouse. Mrs. Peck and Rickey enjoyed a few hours visiting with friends. S-Sgt. Bill Blunt left Friday for Walker AFB, New Mexico, after a 27-day leave. He visited here with his mother, Mrs. Mae Blunt, and brothers and sisters. Helen Lessman. Mary Ellen Tritsch and Zulemma Dye mot ored to Hastings Sunday and vis ited with Mrs. Dye's niece and family, Dr. and Mrs. F. J. Rutt. Mary Ellen called on old friends. "Tex" Chovanec, former Plattsmouth man, is at George town University Hospital, 38th and Reservoir Road NW. Room 5045, Washington, D.C. Mr. Cho vanec submitted to back sur gery Wednesday. LETTER BOX A TR1I5UTE To Miss Barbara Gering, whose decision to resign from the Board of Directors of the public library, was accepted with keen regret: Her resignation was twice re jected, then forced by her insis tence to be accepted, however she was made a life time hon orary member of the Board in recognition of her almost 50 years of faithful service. During that period she never missed a meeting except when it conflic ted with her church activities. Her clear-cut suggestions dur ing the building of the present library building (she was a member of the building com mittee, and in all matters per- j taining to the betterment of the library, have been most helpful. ! Her service as secretary of ! the Board has covered a good i part of the history of the lib- j rary. ! My own work in the library, as ! librarian, has benefited by her 1 example and counsel. " j It is the earnest wish of the ; Board that the relinquishment of her membership will not pre vent them from calling upon her for counsel and advice. Therefore, we say we love 5rr and will miss her very much. Verna Leonard, Librarian i Grace Vallery from Garden Grove, Calif., Larry Vallery and wife and Gene and Steven Vallery returned from a weeks outing through the north west Ozarks of Arkansas. The boys enjoyed mountain trout fishing with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cole, also side trips of interest. They were dinner guests of the Coles in some of the old south ern inns. Mrs. Eva Kerns -who submit ted to surgery recently and has been convalescing at the home of her daughter in Omaha has , returned to her home here. Jim Pence who underwent sur gery recently in Omaha return ed home Tuesday and is getting along fine. Ruby Boardman, Rose Temp- lemeyer, Eldora Pankonin and Esther Inman of Louisville en tertained Zulemma Dye and Helen Lessman for birthday din ner in Omaha Tuesday evening, Mrs. Burr Davis was in the city over Wednesday night, stop ping at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Vallery, en route to her home in Wayne. Mrs. Davis had been in Green ville, Miss., where she attended graduation services of a jet fly ing group of which her son, Lt. James B. Davis, is a member and recevied his wings. Fred Gardner of this city was injured Wednesday evening at work at Allied Chemical. He is under doctor's care. X-rays showed a sprained ankle and ligament. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. McMak en have returned from New York City and other places in the East where they visited for several weeks. Pam McMaken of Omaha, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. McMaken, is here vis iting this week. Aunt of Mrs. George Thun Dies at Home in Dcnison, Iowa Mrs. Patrick Lane, 83, an aunt of Mrs. George Thun of this city, died Tuesday at Denison, la., following a long and linger ing illness. Mrs. Lane was widow of one of the long time residents of Denison and vicinity, being engaged in farming and also a active life in business of Deni son. Survivors are daughters: Mis ses Nellie and Genevieve Lane. Denison, Mrs. Ed Noetha. West side. Ia., Mrs. Dwayne Fowler. Norfolk, Nebr.. sistcr. Mrs. Frank. Comstock, Denver. Mr. and Mrs. Thun were at Denison Sunday to visit the aunt. Obituary Oscar II. Allen Oscar H. Allen was born Jan uary 13, 1871, son of the late Benjamin F. and Harriett Ely Allen of Wabash. They lived in the Wabash community until 1913. He and his family moved to Omaha. In 1897 Mr. Allen graduated from the University of Nebras ka and during 1898 to 1899 he served as a Captain in Co. K, 3rd Nebraska Volunteer Regi ment in Cuba during the Span ish American War. February 12, 1902 he married Miss Myrtle M. McCrory at Wa bash and they established their home near there. From 1913 to 1926 Mr. Allen was associated with Snyder -Malone Livestock Commission firm as a salesman and later as part owner. He had served on the Board of Directors of Omaha Stock Yards Exchange; and 1926-1954 he was in sales work with various book concerns and sold Encyclopedia Brittanica, selling to public schools over a wide area near Omaha. He had been in failing health for three years and in Nov. 1958 he and Mrs. Allen moved to Mc Cook to be near their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Roes. Mr. Allen died Thursday morn ing, July 23 at the U. S. Veter ans Hospital, Grand Island at the age of 88 years, six months and ten days. Surviving is his wife, Myrtle and daughter Hope (Mrs. Char les Reesi, both of McCook. Funeral services were Satur day, July 25 at 11 a.m. at the Methodist Church. Elmwood with Reverend James Hansen of fil iating. Burial was Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clar ence Reuter, Elmwood; Neal Dorr, Murdock: Edward Mc Crory, Murdock; Robert A. Nel son and Seward P. Day of Lin coln, and Clinton Jones of Ash land. Dorr-Philpot and Reavis Mc Comber Funeral Home of Falls City was in charge of arrangements. Cass County Picnic Held At Denver Sunday, July 26, the Cass County, Nebraska picnic was held at Washington Park in Den ver. This was the first one and ev eryone present is reported to have enjoyed meeting friends they had not seen for a long time. Prizes were given for the old est living relative in Cass Coun ty, oldest person attending born in Cass County and youngest per son present born in Cass Coun-i ty. The crowd was small but plan ners hope to see many more friends there next year. Some names were obtained: Harvey and Amy Behrens and daughters, Bonnie and Rosalie; Mary and Adrian Jackson and daughters, Carol, Rosemary and Linda, Maxine and George Lu shinsky; Mary Adkins; Edith, Dean Bloomer; Kenneth and Ann Boetal and daughter; Hen ry Lyon; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Brenning; Floyd McCarthy; Mil dred and Charles Walden andj family; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph! Wooster, David Wooster; Sadie and Ernest Reher; Gladys Her rington; Wanda and Nolan Hick man and sons, and Mrs. Clara White. The picnic this year was in stigated by Gladys Herrington. Next year, the picnic will be held the second Sunday in Ju ly with Mary Adkins and Max ine Lushinsky in charge. Notic es will be in several papers. "We hope to see you all then," those in charge say. Walter Scott Well Known Here Dies In Colorado Walter Scott, resident here for some time and well known mining engineer, died Saturday at Denver. Mr. Scott was husband of the former Nora Livingston of this city and the family resided here for some time with the late Dr. T. P. Livingston, father of Mrs. Scott. Later the family moved to Central City, Colo., where Mr. Scott suffered a heart attack and moved to Denver because of lower altitude. Survivors are the wife and one daughter, Margaret. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 29 at Central City, Colo., with interment in that city. Mussman, Woster On Library Board O. F. Mussman, superintend ent of schools, and Clem Wos ter, insurance agent, were ap proved as mayor's appointees to the City Library Board by the City Council Wednesday night. They replace Barbara Gering who resigned after many years service and T. I. Friest, former superintendent of schools, now on the administrative staff at Peru State Teachers College. Others on the board are Mrs. ; P. T. Heineman, Maxine Cloidt and R. M. Walling. If the do-it-yourself craze continues, it might exen extend to thinking. Office Economist Thur. Fri. Sat.
