Edward Van Horn Phone 252-W The Modern Teen's 4-H Club met Wednesday afternoon at the home of Carol Nickels with all members present. Guests were Kim Sessions, Debbie Nichols and Mrs. Edward Van Horn and Johnnie. Carol opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge, followed by group singing. Mary Alice Wood accompanied at the piano. Mrs. Clarence Norrls, leader, and Mrs. Helen Calla han, assistant leader, gave points on sewing and cooking Mary Alice gave a demonstra tion on putting in a hem. Cook ies were brought by Carol, Su sie Seeger and Shirley Upton and these were judged. The next meeting will be July 22 at the home of Mary Alice. The girls played volleyball and then enjoyed refreshments. Mrs. Warren Baker and Bru ce of Lincoln were house guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Baker. Bruce stayed for a longer vis it with his grandparents. Mrs. Wayne Pederson, Mrs. Ted Wilson and Mrs. Art Han sen were Tuesday guests of Mrs. Pat Wade. These ladies made plans for the Junior Women's Club at the July 4 celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Stone were guests of honor at a bas ket dinner Friday evening at the Cass Ciunty Auditorium. Spon soring the occasion were the Weeping Water Athletic Assoc iation, Chamber of Commerce and Legion Post 237. Members of the Legion Auxiliary were In charge of the kitchen. Mrs. Joe John was In charge of the guest book and the purse collected as a gift for the Ston es. Mrs. John furnished roses as table centerpieces. W. N. Roberts was toastmas ter for the program following the dinner. He gave a short his tory of the family since they moved to Weeping Water in 1945. Mr. Stone has served on the board of education for six years;was the Boy Scout Mas ter at the time five Scouts ad vanced to Eagle Scout; was a member of the Masonic Lodge; was Instrumental in organizing the Athletic Association which purchased the ground and con structed Memorial Field in Weep ing Water. He has been presi tident of the Association since it was organized until three years ago and then he served as se cretary. Lloyd Colbert, president of the Association, paid tribute to Mr. Stone's many years of work with the group and on Memor ial Field. L. R. Starr presented Mr. Stone a certificate of dis tinguisehd service on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and Joe John, representing the Leg ion, gave Mr. and Mrs. Stone the guest book and presented them the gift of cash. Arthur Thomser., superin tendent of the Weeping Water schools, paid tribute to Mrs. Stone who has been a teacher in the grade school 12 years. SPILLS SCRAMBLE 44h, W V John S. Mrs Eugene Domingo and Mrs. Vin cent Rehmeier, leaders, were present. Richard Nickels and Johnnie Van Horn were Monday after noon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Van Horn and girls of Springfield. Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward Van Horn and family were evening guests. Linda Derby is staying at the Van Horn to help with the work and the care of the new baby, Cindy Kay. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hollands worth of Wabash are also the great-grandparents of Cindy Kay Van Horn, born June 17. Ruth Atterbery of Memorial, 111., visited for a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Upton and family. .Mrs. Tom Attebery of Adams visited until Saturday at the Upton home. ' Mr. and Mrs. Charles Free man spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Leo McCann at Grand Island. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Jewell were business visitors in Om aha Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Caruso of Omaha were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. I. C. Reed. Phyllis Hohman visited Bar bara Hohman for a few days In Plattsmouth the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hohman and family brought Phyllis home Sunday evening. Mrs. Carl Nickels of Platts mouth broke her left hip in a fall. She was taking clothes off the line when a snake came close to her, frightening her. She was taken to the hospital in Nebraska City by ambulance and is in room 207 at St. Mary's. Mrs. Nickels broke her right hip last August in a fall and was just able to get along with one crutch. She Is the grandmoth er of Richard and Carol Nickels of Weeping Water and lived for 17 years near Weeping Water. Mrs. Ruth French and Robin of Alameda, Calif., are visiting s In Weeping Water and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Wade. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark and family and Mrs. Omer Clark who have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Wiles and other relatives here, return ed to their home in Houston, Tex. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Thurs lonri nennis nnd Maren of Le mon' Grove, Calif., are visiting CHILLS 59 with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gib son and other relatives in Weep ing Water. Susan Steckley entertained at a "cook out" at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Steckley with eight girls pre. sent. The occasion was in hon or of Susan Desch of York, a houseguest. The girls enjoyed playing volleyball and other games. Eldon Severn is spending the summer in Kansas where he has a job. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meisin ger and family, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Thorns and family and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bergmann and Debbie were Tuesday eve ning guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rathe and family, honoring Robert Rathe on his birthday. Mrs. Paul Wiles and Mrs. Roy Wiles and Ruth were Mon day guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Peck at Louis ville. David Mullln of Albion visit ed Monday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cook. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sudduth visited friends in Weeping Wa ter Tuesday. Mrs. Louis Sack and Mrs. Per ry Nickles of Murray were gu ests of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Cooper and family. Debbie ac companied Mrs. Sack home for a few days' visit. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wilson of Kingsburg, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Simon, Marion and. Jack of Chowchilla, Calif., spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ward. Mr. Wilson is a bro ther of Mrs. Ward. Saturday guests to visit with the Wards' houseguests were Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Simon of Commanche, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rupp and Marty. Robert Keckler, president of the Weeping Water Garden Club, received a letter from the Midwest Garden and Flower Show, thanking the club for the fine display they had at the Civic Auditorium in Omaha in June. Mrs. Walter Rasmussen carried out the idea of Tools of the Trade and The Results. This display won a purple ribbon. The No Name Club met at the home of Mrs. I. L. Markland for its June meeting with 10 members present. The afternoon was spent socially. A birthday party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S.J Marshall honoring Randy Mc Vay of Lancaster, Calif., on his sixth birthday. Six little friends were present. Bert Marshall, a cousin, made the place cards, planned the games and assist ed with the serving to gain an award for his Cub Scout work Rancy is visiting his grandmo ther, Mrs. Eunice Applegate and Mr. and Mrs. James Mc Vay for the summer months. Mrs. Dave Durst of Pueblo, Colo., Dean Durst, Douglas, Ka ren and Denise of Baldwin Park, Calif., have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Norris. They all attended the wedding of Joyce Evans and Jack Norris Sunday at Arapa hoe. Others attending the wed' ding from Weeping Water were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Norris, Mrs. DeForest Philpot, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Norris, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Wood and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Domingo, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Stone, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Roberts and Mr. and Mrs. Nell Munkres. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Norris will make their home at Columbus. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wise man and Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Lane were guests at a barbe cue breakfast at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Shell berg. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Spang ler were Saturday evening and Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Coon of Mason City, Io wa. Saturday afternoon they at tended the wedding of their niece, Ruth Conn, of Mason Ci ty and Richard Eppler. Mr. and Mrs. George Bates and Mrs. Priscilla Westlake of Alliance were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hedden and family of Greenwood. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Baker and family and Mrs. Vesta Ba ker of Lincoln were Saturday overnight and Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Peck and family at Blair. Randy and San dy Baker remained for a visit at the Peck home. Leslie Roy Phillips returned to his home In Pawnee City af ter being hospitalized at the General Hospital in Lincoln for two weeks. He and his sister, Peggy, had been visit ing their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kennedy. Mr. and Mrs. Harlon Gibson are enjoying a vacation trip to Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nor ris received a telephone call from Los Angeles, Calif., from Lt. and Mrs. Philip Starck, say ing they had arrived safely in California. They are on their way to Hawaii for three years. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knaup enjoyed a picnic supper with Mrs. Bertha Fitch and Ahlene Fitch at the cabin at Lake Park near South Bend Sunday even ing.
